Matthew James Hayes
Matthew James Hayes died in Yuba City as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002, at age 17.
Born Feb. 12, 1985, in Woodland, Matthew has been a Marysville resident for 16 years. He was a high school student.
Matthew is survived by his mother and stepfather, Lynda and Ronald Simpson of Marysville; father, Darrell W. Lane of Winters; sisters, Megan Lane and Hannah Lane, both of Winters; brothers, Justin Hayes of Marysville, and Eli Lane of Winters; paternal grandmother, Phyllis Clarke of Winters; maternal grandmother, Joan Rodriguez of Winters; and maternal and step-grandparents, James and Virginia Simpson of Oroville.
A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 7, at New Life Assembly in Marysville, with the Rev. Al Moody officiating.
Burial will be at Sierra View Memorial Park, Marysville.
The family requests memorials be directed to the trust fund set in the name of Matthew J. Hayes at Feather River State Bank, 700 E. St., Marysville. Friends may call at Lipp & Sullivan Chapel today Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m.

HAYNES
Douglas Edmunds Haynes
Douglas Edmunds Haynes, a Davis resident for more than 30 years, died Oct. 23, 2003. He was 76.
Born April 27, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, he moved to California to attend UC Berkeley. There he met Martha Leigh Mayhew, who he marriage in 1950. He graduated from Cal with a bachelor's degree; he later received a degree in accounting.
He was a successful businessman, sheep rancher and audiologist -- one of the first licensed by the state in that field, he later served as president of the California Audiological Society. He and his family lived in the Bay Area and Yuba City before moving to Davis in 1970.
He was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as a bishop in the 1980s.
He enjoyed classical music, art, travel and, most of all people. He was loved by all who knew him, his family said, and they and his friends miss him dearly.
He is survived by his wife Martha Leigh Haynes and his five children, Kris Haas of Taylorsville, Utah, Dana Albrechtsen of Clinton, Iowa, Robin Bloomfield of Gilbert, Ariz., Richard Haynes of Granite Bay and Scott Haynes of Vacaville. He is also survived by his brother Howard Haynes and sister Shirley MacFarlane, both of Salt Lake City, 22 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, at the Davis LDS chapel, 785 Elmwood Drive. A viewing will be held at 10 a.m. with memorial services to follow at 11 a.m.

Martha Leigh Mayhew Haynes
Martha Leigh Mayhew Haynes, a longtime Davis resident, died April 14, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 74.
Viewing is at 10 a.m. on Monday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on West Eighth and Elmwood Drive in Davis. The funeral service follows at 11 a.m.
Born in Ogden, Utah, on Dec. 13, 1930, she moved to Berkeley with her family at age 9. After graduating from Berkeley High School, she attended Brigham Young University. In 1950, she marriage Douglas Haynes, a student at UC Berkeley.
After living several years in Utah and Arizona, she and her family returned to California in 1967, settling in Davis in 1970. She managed her husband's audiology practice while raising her five children.
She was described as bright and inquisitive, and enjoyed reading, homemaking and giving service. She was an accomplished cook, an award-winning quilter and a loyal friend to many.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in varied capacities in all organizations of the church. Most of all, her family says she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Haynes; and her brother, Leon Mayhew.
She is survived by her five children, Kristine Haas of Taylorsville, Utah; Dana Albrechtsen of Clinton, Iowa; Robin Bloomfield of Gilbert, Ariz.; Richard Haynes of Granite Bay; and Scott Haynes of Vacaville.
She is further survived by her sister, Lenore Laycock of Oberlin, Ohio; her brother, Wayne Mayhew of Half Moon Bay; 22 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Goldie Mae Hays
Goldie Mae Hays went home to the LORD surrounded by the love of her family in Woodland on Sunday, November 28, 2004, preceded in death by her beloved grandsons, Kenneth J. Ripper, Jr. and Kevin Dewberry. She is survived by her children Mary Lou Ripper and husband Kenneth J., Charles L. Centers, Sr. and wife Brigitte, of Sacramento. Katherine Davis and husband Vernon, Joyce Thomas and husband Gene all of Westville, Ok., Connie O'Donnell and husband Danny of Shingle Springs, Ca. Greatly loved by her remaining 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Robert Harvey and his wife Dorothy of Fayetteville, Ark. and many nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Winslow, Arkansas, Goldie and her family moved to Woodland in 1956. A true "Steel Magnolia" - strong, hardworking, determined and generous. She loved to travel, often with her children or grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Woodland Bible Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Woodland Bible Church, 441 California St.

Richard Alan Hays
Richard Alan Hays died in Sacramento Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 at age 49.
Mr. Hays was born Aug. 22, 1955 in Woodland. He attended Woodland High School. He worked for the State of California for nearly 24 years in many departments including Health Services, Controller's, Food and Agriculture, General Services, Council for Private and Post-Secondary and Voice Ed agencies and for the past nine years as a Manager I in Personnel for the State Water Resources Board.
Survivors include Mr. Hays father, Donald L. Hays of Woodland; his mother, Thelma; his stepmother, Goldie; his sister, Lynn Luna; his brothers, Terry and Donny; his nephew, T.J. all of Sacramento; his nephews, Steve Roberts of Red Bluff and Freedom Roberts of Sultan, Wash. and his friend, Mark Dearman. He was preceded in death by his life partner, Don Jacobs.
The family requests memorials in Mr. Hays' name be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Zella Mae Hays
Zella Mae Hays passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2000 in her home in Winters. Zella was born, Feb. 22, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama, she was 66. She had her own house cleaning service for 20 years and helped her sister, Shirley Scadden, with the Re-Run Thrift Store in Davis.
She is survived by four children, John Fox of South Lake Tahoe, Georgianna Hays of Vacaville, Kathryn Shahid of Napa and Debra Hays-Conrad of Winters; brothers, Marvin Westbrook and Horace Westbrook of Davis; sister, Shirley Scadden of Winters; and 11 grandchildren, John Macias of Vacaville, Sylvia Macias of Napa, Leann Hicks of Winters, James Hicks of Napa, Elizabeth Hays of Winters, Sarah Hays-Conrad of Winters, Allie Hays-Conrad of Winters, Jordan Hays-Conrad of Winters, Alan Purcell II of the Bay area, Bill Purcell of San Francisco and Tommy Purcell of Vacaville and Isaiah Adams of Napa.
Zella was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy Hays, one year after birth, and her husband, Jim Leroy Hays in January 1998, as well as seven brothers and sisters.
HAZELWOOD
Billy J. Hazelwood, Sr.
Billy Joe Hazelwood Sr. died at Anderson's Convalescent Hospital in Woodland on Feb. 11, 2006. He was 71.
He will be interred Friday at Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood.
Born on Jan. 28, 1935, in Rector, Ark. to Andrew and Sarah (McGue) Hazelwood, he moved to Hawthorne in 1956, where he lived for 20 years. He was employed by Century 21 Tarbell and Associates for seven years. He then worked as an inspector for Trans Aero Industries for 18 years.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Hazelwood of Inglewood; daughter, Dawn Mirtsching and her husband Bill of Lucerne Valley; sons, Bill J. Hazelwood and his wife Nikki of Woodland, Carlton Hazelwood and his wife Stacey of Victorville and Joshua Hazelwood of Hawthorne; sister, Jana Pannell of Ventura; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Yolo Wayfarer Center and Christian Mission, 1017 Main St. in Woodland.
