James W. McMahon
James W. McMahon died Sept. 9, 2005, in Davis. He was 90 years old.
A memorial service begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church, 1275 B St. in Davis.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 4, 1915, he was the only boy among six sisters.
He attended John Carroll University and spent World War II as a chemist for the U.S. Navy.
He marriage Marianne Koeber, also from Cleveland, and moved to San Francisco after the war.
He continued with the Navy, completing a 35- year career in 1975.
After retiring from the Navy he worked with Francis Ford Coppola, handling the chemical analysis for his winery.
His family said enjoyed this work and the added perk of rubbing elbows with stars at Coppola parties.
With the death of his wife of 55 years, he moved to Davis to be near his only child, Jim McMahon and his family.
His family said he took great pleasure in his grandchildren, Kathryn and Peter, using his talents to build a doll house and a castle for them.
He enjoyed the traveling that he did for the Navy, touring Europe with his wife and exploring his roots in Ireland with his son.
He is survived by his son, Jim McMahon and daughter-in-law Mimi McMahon, longtime Davis residents; his grandchildren, Kathryn McMahon, a Santa Clara University law student, and Peter McMahon, a UC Santa Barbara student; and his sisters, Marie Klug of San Diego and Loretta Cziesko, Cleveland, Ohio.

John Prescott McMahan
John Prescott McMahan, 76 years old, died July 23, 2005 at the Woodland Skilled Nursing Facility.
He was born April 20, 1929 in Sacramento to Henry and Hazel McMahan, and moved to Oakland when he was one year old and graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1947.
He began his career as a police officer with the city of Winters and later moved to the UC Davis Police Department, becoming their first detective.
He was a member of the California National Guard and was activated for service in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.
After leaving the University in 1967, he worked for the Yolo County Public Defender's office for 26 years and upon retirement was the chief investigator.
A 35-year active member of the International Lions Club, he served as president of the Woodland Host Lions Club, Davis Earlybirds and Davis Host Lions Club.
He was a charter member of the Sacramento Valley Historical Railways (where he was instrumental in restoring steam locomotive 1233 that had stood in the Yolo County Fairgrounds for over 50 years) and served as that organization's chairman for the restoration of the Woodland Southern Pacific Depot.
He helped start the Yolo Shortline (RiverTrain) excursion train.
As a very active member of the community, Mr. McMahan participated in the Chili Cook-off, Stroll Through History, Yolo County Grand Jury for two years, Woodland Historical Preservation Commission, VFW, Woodland Chamber of Commerce and American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia McMahan of Woodland; daughters Debra Smith of Columbus, Ohio; Lynda McMahan of Suisun City and Maureen McMahan of Sacramento; brothers Alison McMahan of Newark, Calif.; Harold McMahan of Manzanita, Ore.; stepchildren, Karen Parrish of French Camp; Veronica Banuelos of Lake Shasta City; Donna Bubelis of Granite Bay; and Sgt. Timothy McMahan of the U.S. Army, stationed in Darmstadt, Germany; two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathleen.
A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 28 at Lions Clubhouse, 417 Lincoln Ave., Woodland.
Private graveside services for family will be held.

McNAB
Julie McNab
Julie McNab died in Esparto Thursday, April 1, 2004, at age 64.
Born Nov. 17, 1939, in Napa, Mrs. McNab had been a Yolo County resident for four years. She was an administrative supervisor for 18 years for the County of Sonoma. She moved to Esparto after retiring to be close to her family.
Survivors include her son, Don McNab Jr. and wife Anna of Guinda and Mike McNab and wife Linda of Santa Clarita; grandsons, Tyler and Tate McNab of Guinda and Alex McNab of Santa Clarita; and cousin, Jim Scribner of Dixon.
The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95616; or to Sacramento Make A Wish Foundation, 1401 Halyard Drive, Suite No. 130, Sacramento 95691. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.

McNEIL
Faye Louise McNeil
Faye Louise McNeil died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 3, 2004. She was 82 years old.
Born July 21, 1922, in Muscatine, Iowa, she had lived in Davis since 1951.
She and her husband were members of the Davis business community and owners of the original McNeil's Floor Covering & Drapery Shop. She was well known for her love of Davis, her family, her many friends, traveling the world with her husband, entertaining in her home and her cabin at Bodega Bay, and The Bridge Club. She was active in community service, including most recently the Yolo Hospice Thrift Shop.
She is survived by her husband of more than 53 years, Les McNeil; two daughters, Anne Jones and her husband Paul of Davis and Ellen McNeil and her husband Jim Wiltens of Redwood City; son, David McNeil of Davis; grandchildren, Susan Jones, Tommy Jones and his wife Jamie, and Emma McNeil, all of Davis, and Griffin Wiltens of Redwood City; and four great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother, Bruce Kanoff and his wife Marge of Carson City, Nev.
A gathering of family and friends will be planned for a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Yolo Hospice or to a charity of the donor's choice.
McNEIL
Robert Bruce McNeil
Robert Bruce McNeil died Dec. 11, 2004, in Davis. He was 89.
A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday at United Methodist Church of Davis, 1620 Anderson Rd. in Davis.
Born Dec. 31. 1914, in Adrian, Mich., he was the third eldest of 10 children born to Edith Nash whose family has been traced to the Mayflower, and James McNeil whose father was from Glasgow, Scotland.
While growing up in rural Michigan, he attended a one-room schoolhouse with his brothers and sisters, and helped on the family farm with his uncle Nash prior to the depression. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1933. He continued his schooling and worked with his uncle in a barber shop in Detroit, Mich.
He followed his older brother into the service and served in the Army from 1941 to 1945, obtaining the rank of Corporal and serving in the 75th Division during the Battle of the Bulge. In his words, he "spent four years in fox holes" with a brief but memorable time in Edinburgh, Scotland, where he explored his roots.
He returned to Michigan after the war and went to Adrian College on the G.I. bill, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1948. He then taught all grades in that one-room school house. In the early 50s, he followed his two brothers and sister to San Francisco.
He taught in Mendota as an elementary school teacher and met his wife-to-be, Marilyn, who was also teaching. They moved to San Bruno and he completed 40 years of teaching. He then worked at Orchard Supply Hardware in San Jose, putting his time in for social security.
After his wife died in 1988, he moved to Davis, purchasing a home adjacent to his sister, Harriet.
In 1990 and 1991, he trained as an Arboretum Docent at UC Davis. He then attended art classes at the Davis Senior Center, having his water color displayed on several occasions. He also taught Sunday school to first and second graders at Davis Methodist Church, often bringing in snacks for the children.
After the death of his brother-in-law, Monroe, he sold his house and lived with his sister until she died in 1999. He resided there until his death. During this period, he was comforted by his nieces, Monie Scrivner and Mary Glink, and his nephews, David, Michael and James Rude.
He is survived by his sister Pauline in Wisconsin and his brother Richard in Michigan. Although he never had children of his own, his sister made it possible for him to enjoy and give of himself to his nieces, nephews and their children.
