Virginia Elizabeth Clark
Virginia Elizabeth Clark died on Friday, April 8, 2005, at Woodland Memorial Hospital at the age of 73.
A lifelong resident of Arbuckle, Mrs. Clark was born on March 30, 1932.
Mrs. Clark was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Woodland, a past member of the Pink Ladies of Woodland Memorial Hospital, and the Colusa County Election Board.
She is survived by a son, Steve and his wife Susie McCullough of Arbuckle, daughter Linda and her husband Frank Aulgur of Roseville, brother Paul Wagner of Arbuckle, grandchildren Hattie, Minda, Mitch McCullough all of Arbuckle and Sam and Jake Aulgur of Roseville. She is also survived by a niece Chris Manning of Arbuckle and nephew Robert Wagner of Woodland.
Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mrs. Clark to the American Cancer Society 1710 Webster St., Oakland, 94612.
Services: Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the McNary-Moore Chapel in Colusa. A graveside service is scheduled for scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at the Arbuckle Cemetery. Funeral Services are under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service.
CLARKE
Peter Tallman Clarke
Mr. Peter Clarke passed away at his Winters home on Saturday, April 3, 1999. Born on April 7, 1938, in Spring Valley, New York, he was 60 years old.
Mr. Clarke worked for the city of Davis as an assistant Civil Engineer for over 35 years. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam war for eight years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Bowling, and he played the trumpet. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Davis and the VFW Dixon Post.
He is survived by his wife Phyllis Clarke of Winters; his children: Richard Clarke of Davis, David W. Lane of Winters, Darrell Lane of Davis, and Donna Lane of Winters. He also leaves six grandchildren.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, April 9, at 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, 205 Russell Street, Winters. Pastor Frank Anderson will officiate. Burial will be private at the Brick Church Cemetery in Monsey, New York.
Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.
CLARKE
Phyllis Jean Clarke
Phyllis Jean Clarke passed away peacefully at home in Winters on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006, following a two year battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.
Phyllis was born on Sept. 25, 1944 in San Antonio, Texas at the U. S. Air Force Base known as Randolph Field. Phyllis moved to Winters in 1976. She was the proud daughter of the late Phil and Judy Montgomery, both of whom were very active in the community. Phil organized the Boys Club of America and was sports editor for the inters Express. Judy had the Winters Dance Studio where many grateful students gained their poise and structured a solid foundation towards their future.
Phyllis was a devoted mom, loyal wife, loving daughter and generous grandmother. She was a true friend forever to many, and a genuine humanitarian. Phyllis believed in honesty, hardwork, family, respect, and good people.
Phyllis is survived by her family, David Lane, Darrell and Jill Lane, Richard and Laura Clarke, Mary Mackey, Steve Evans and Carol Goodrich; grandchildren, Megan, Hannah, Caleb, Eli and Corey Lane, Micaiah Clarke and Natasha Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, Phil and Judy Montgomery; her husband, Peter T. Clarke; her mom Verdell Burnett; grandson Matthew (Lane) Hayes and the sunshine of her life, daughter Donna Marie Lane.
All friends and acquaintances are cordially invited to help “Celebrate the Life” of P.J. Clarke on Monday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church, Wesley Hall, 205 Russell Street, Winters. A Phyllis Clarke Memorial Fund has been set up at First Northern Bank of Dixon. Donations in her name may be made there.
CLARY
Robert L. Clary
Robert Lee Clary dies at 58
Robert Lee Clary, who died in the UC Davis Medical Center on Nov. 5, 1991, will be buried
in the Woodland Cemetery. A native of Nebraska, he was born July 31, 1933.
Mr. Clary was a resident of Winters. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 and was honorably discharged. He was working as a taxi driver in West Sacramento at the time of his death.
He is survived by a brother, Les Clary, of Yolo County. The Public Guardian's office is currently seeking relatives.
Nauman and Son of Sacramento is in charge of the arrangements.
CRIPPEN
Robert Earl Crippen
Robert Earl Crippen died in Sparks, Nev. Monday, Dec. 27, 2005 at age 82.
Mr. Crippen was born in Burbank July 3, 1922 to the late Calvin Crippen and the late Edith McKee Kraft. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during W.W. II in Europe. After the war, he graduated from University of Oregon. He was a retired architect and musician, with businesses in Woodland and Truckee, and also managed a ski area in the 1970s. He was a member of the Episcopal church.
Survivors include Mr. Crippen's daughters, Carol Johndrow and her husband Dan of Redwood City, Janet Robinson and her husband Kevin of Visalia, Kathleen First and her husband Tom of Gold River; his son, James Crippen and wife Sandra of Sparks, Nev.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Merritt Crippen and his brothers, Ross and Clyde.
The family requests that memorials in Mr. Crippen's name be made to the Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF), 300 W. 22nd St., Oak Brook, Ill. 60523-8842
Services: A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Trinity Cathedral Church, 2620 Capital Ave., Sacramento. A reception will follow, location to be announced. Cremation will be in Sparks, Nev. Ross, Burke & Knobel Sparks Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

FIREMAN DIES FROM INJURIES
George Cripps, Who Was Run Over Saturday, Expires in a Woodland Hospital. WINTERS (Yolo Co.), July 29, 1912
George W. Cripps, fireman of the extra freight between Elmira and Esparto, who was run over by a freight car Saturday afternoon, died in the railroad hospital yesterday in San Francisco.
He is survived by a wife and child, who live in Elmira, a mother in Suisun.
Cripps was about 30 years of age and had been in the employ of the Southern Pacific about eight years.
He was boarding the train while it was in motion.
He lost his footing and fell under the car.
He managed to draw a part of his body from beneath the car, but the trucks passed over his right shoulder, crushing him badly.
CRITES
Jeanette Lavender Crites (1st of 2 obituaries)
Jeanette Lavender Crites was born Sept. 30, 1934 in French Camp.
The family moved to Woodland in the early '40s.
She marriage Lee Crites and they were happily marriage for 53 1/2 years.
They moved to Carmichael and upon their retirement from the State of California, where she worked as a supervisor for 20 years, they moved to their property in Silver Springs, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mabel and Leo Lavender.
Her parents owned and operated Lavender's Market, located where Cracchiolo's Market is now located.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, their three sons, Jerry, Michael and Patrick; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Aaron, Brett, Taylor, Weston, Kelly, Kevin and two great-grandchildren.
She was active in their Silver Springs church, rock hound groups and volunteered at the Senior Citizen Center.
She loved her friends. If you ever met her, you would say she was vivacious! She did lovely crafts and oil paintings.
She and Lee loved to migrate to Quartzsite, Ariz. every winter.
They were preparing to leave for Arizona the morning that her life was cut short with an unexpected heart attack.
She was happy and content. We will love and remember her exactly that way!
Jeanette's life will be celebrated at a memorial service to be held at the Woodland Christian Center, 441 California St., 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7.
