WILLIAMS

Floyd Lewis Williams

Floyd Lewis Williams died at St. John’s Manor in Woodland on Feb. 22, 2006. He was 87.

Born June 30, 1918, he was one of six children born to Pearl Eaves and Ernest Williams of Lorenzo, Texas. He was raised on the Texas panhandle and graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

He marriage Frances Cleveland on New Year’s Eve 1943, and immediately reported for duty to the U.S. Navy. He served as a lieutenant, stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany, during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, receiving a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

He returned to Texas Tech as an assistant professor of engineering for several years. During this time he wrote a textbook on the use of the slide rule. Next, he went to work for Hughes Aircraft in Tucson, Ariz.

In 1956, he and Frances and their two young daughters moved to California, where he began his career with Litton Industries.

Upon his retirement, the family moved to Santa Paula where they owned and operated a thriving citrus and avocado ranch for the next 20 years.

He and Frances moved to Davis in 1996. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Frances died in May 2005.

He will be remembered for his lifelong love of numbers and number games, his gentle, supportive presence, and his sense of responsibility and caring.

He is survived by his daughters, Katrina Steiner and her husband James of Ventura, and Karen Slinkard and her husband Stephen of Davis; and his grandchildren, Christopher Steiner and Matthew Steiner of Las Vegas; Donovan Slinkard of Sacramento; Dustin Steiner of Washington, D.C.; Megan Slinkard of Albuquerque, N.M.; Shannon Steiner of San Diego; and Monica Slinkard at college in Davidson, N.C.

The family plans a private celebration of his life and requests that memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, be made to Alzheimer’s Association of Ventura County, 1339 Del Norte Road, Camarillo, Calif. 93010.

Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

WILLIAMS

James (Peanut) Williams

James (Peanut) Williams died of cancer at his residence Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002, at age 71.

Born Nov. 21, 1930, in Bakersfield, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Helen A. Baker and W.A. Williams. He attended schools in both Oildale and Bakersfield. He moved to Woodland in 1969 through 1978. After moving to Cobb Mountain in Lake County he returned to Woodland in 1998. He was a 50-year truck driver, he moved heavy equipment, and drilling rigs used in oil, gas and steam. According to his family members, "he enjoyed working on cars, playing golf and his true joy was watching his grandchildren participate in their school sports program."

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara (Shonafelt) Williams who he marriage in Las Vegas in 1955. Also surviving is his daughter, Vicki Schlaredt and husband Don of Woodland; sons, Blake Williams and wife Glenda of Roseville, Bill Williams and wife Patty of Bakersfield, Paul Williams and wife Judy of Fair Oaks, and Tony Williams of Alaska.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Evan and Jamie Schlaredt, Kelly and Patrick Williams, Laura Williams of Bakersfield, Frances, James and Daniel Williams of Fair Oaks; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland, with The Rev. Elmer Prout officiating.

The family requests memorials be directed to Woodland High School Athletic Department; Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95616; the American Cancer Society of Northern California, 1765 Challenge Way, Sacramento 95815; or the charity of the donor's choice.

Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

WILLIAMS

Jennie V. Williams

Jennie V. Williams died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Friday, April 11, 2003, at age 78.

Born March 10, 1925, in Louisiana, Mrs. Williams had been a Yolo County resident for 30 years. She was also resided in Richmond.

Survivors include her husband, John Williams Sr. of Dunnigan; children, John Williams Jr., Jimmie Williams, JoAnn Williams, Joseph Williams; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson & Kratzer Civic Center Chapel of Richmond.

Services: Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Civic Center Chapel of Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries, 455 24th St., Richmond. A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, also at Wilson & Kratzer Mortuaries, with a burial to follow at Rolling Hills Memorial Park, Richmond.

WILLIAMS

Joseph Madison Williams

A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 22, 2000 at the Winters Opera House for Joe Williams, who died of lung cancer in his home on Tuesday, April 18, 2000. Born on July 11, 1947, he was 52 years old.

Mr. Williams was a longtime resident of Winters, and worked as a subforeman at Pacific Gas and Electric for 29 years. He was a Vietnam war veteran and an accomplished blues guitar and bass player.

He is survived by his son and daughter, Brian and Kali, of Winters; sister, Kathleen Marney of North Vancouver, BC, and her children, Jacinda, Robert and Sean; brother, Jim Williams of Turlock, and his children, Dianne, Jackie, Robert, and Katie; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and life-long friends, Tom and Mary Bell, of Concord and La Mesa, California.

Memorial contributions may be made to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95616.

WILLIAMS

Robert "Bob" Williams

Robert "Bob" Williams of Woodland and Downieville, passed away Monday March 10, 2003, at Sutter Davis Hospital.

Bob was born in Williams on June 22, 1939. He lived in Yolo County for 58 years, attending Dingle Elementary School and graduating from Woodland High School with the class of 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. He then started his career in retail management. He worked at Union Ice before beginning at L&M Liquor in Davis, where he built the reputation of having the finest selection of California wines on the West Coast. Later he worked at LK Liquor in Woodland, The Shanty, and Crystal Pools.

He was a 40-year member of the Elks, past president and long time member of the Carlton Club, treasurer of E Clampus Vitas Downie Chapter No. 1849, and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed years of salmon fishing with the group on Taylor McGees boat, the Monday Night Football Bowling League, hunting with his grandparents and parents in Chester. Above all he loved his friends and family especially his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Enid, son Gordy and wife Lynn of Sacramento, daughter, Sue and husband Brett of Dunnigan, beloved granddaughters, Sadie and Ella of Sacramento and Brooke of Dunnigan.

He is also survived by brother George and wife Peg of Fort Bragg and sister Nancy and husband Bob of Myrtle Creek, Ore., and numerous aunts; cousins; nephews; and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob was loved by his family and many friends.

A gathering for friends and family will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2003 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Carlton Club, 443 Elm St., Woodland.

Memorial donations may be sent to Sierra County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue or to the Downieville Fire Dept., P.O. Box 66, Downieville, 95636.

McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

WILLIS

Carole Diane (Moore) Willis

Carole passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, April 30, 2005 following a long battle with cancer.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Calhoun and husband Kenny of Woodland, daughter Susan Willis of Woodland, granddaughter Amie Wallace of Woodland, brother Wallace Moore and wife Holly of Lakewood, Colo., brothers and sisters-in-law Jack and Judy Willis of Woodland and Gerald and Nona Willis of Gonzales. Also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years George W. Willis, mother Etta Mae Van Zee, stepfather Greg Van Zee, father Harold Moore, in-laws B.Q. and Hazel Willis and sister-in-law Georgie Moore.

Carole will be remembered fondly for her kindness, selflessness and compassion toward others.

Carole was a very talented artist, probably best known for her hand-carved Santa Clauses. She was an avid Kings fan, loved crossword puzzles, golfing and playing bridge with friends. Carole also enjoyed spending time tending her garden and with family and friends.

Carole and her beautiful smile will be missed greatly by all. She was one of a kind and made the world a better place.

A celebration of life will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 434 Cleveland St., Woodland with the Reverend William Schroeder officiating.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carole Diane (Moore) Willis (2nd of 2 obits.)

Carole Diane Moore Willis died in Davis Saturday, April 30, 2005 at age 71.

Mrs. Willis was born April 14, 1934 in Chico. She had been a Yolo County resident for 65 years. She attended CSU Chico. She did secretarial work in several industries. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ.

Survivors include Mrs. Willis' daughters, Lisa Calhoun and her husband Kenny and Susan Willis all of Woodland; her granddaughter, Amie Wallace of Woodland; her brothers, Wallace Moore and wife Holly of Lakewood, Colo., Jack and Judy Willis of Woodland and Gerald and Nona Willis of Gonzales and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, George W. Willis, her mother, Etta Mae Van Zee, her father, Harold Moore; her stepfather, Greg Van Zee; her grandparents, Ernest and Margaret Long; her in-laws B.Q. and Hazel Willis and her sister-in-law Georgie Moore.

The family requests memorials in Mrs. Willis' name be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.

Services: A celebration of Mrs. Willis' life will be held at 2 p.m. today, Friday, May 6 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 434 Cleveland St., Woodland with the Reverend William Schroeder officiating. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.

WILLIS

Hazel Willis

Hazel Willis died in Woodland Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003, at age 87.

Born Nov. 26, 1916, in Artesia, N.M., Mrs. Willis had been a Yolo County resident for 58 years. She was a beautician in Woodland for many years. She was an instructor in Sacramento School of Cosmetology until her retirement.

Survivors include her sons, Jack Willis and wife Judy of Woodland, Jerry Willis and wife Nona of Gonzales; daughter-in-law, Carole Willis of Woodland; grandchildren, Steven Willis of Turlock, Elizabeth Turold, Lisa Calhoun and Susan Willis of Woodland; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Brian Willis of Turlock, Erica and Laura Turold, and Amie Wallace of Woodland. She was preceded in death by her husband, B.Q. Willis; and son, George Willis.

The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95616; or the charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of McNary's Chapel of Woodland.

Services: A private funeral service was held on Dec. 16, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.
