MOSIER

Jean Mosier

Mean Mosier, surrounded by family members, ended her courageous battle with cancer on March 2, 2001 in San Francisco at age 52. Born June 14, 1948, in New Boston, Texas, she grew up in Dorris, California. After graduating from high school she moved to San Francisco and eventually Winters to raise her children.

She was an active member within the community through organizations such as Winters Swim Team and Lions Club blood drives. She worked for Maier’s TV and Appliance before relocating to Sacramento.

Throughout her life, she was selfless in her devotion to her children, daughter Tina Mosier of San Francisco, son Mark and daughter-in-law Kris Mosier of Hubert, North Carolina. She was the proud grandmother of Zachary and Tyler Mosier. It brought her great joy to be present in welcoming her second grandson into the world this past February.

She is also survived by her mother Catholene Addington of Dorris; sisters Annette Addington of Eagle River, Arkansas, Helen McCune of Palmer, Arkansas, Juanita Lehr of Sacramento; brother Bill Addington; also numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father Jess Addington, and twin brother Dean Addington.

Memorial services will be held at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church in Winters on Friday, March 9, at noon.

MOSIER

Juanita Mosier

Juanita Mosier passed away on July 18, 2005 at the age of 89. Born to Orin and Mabel Stone on Sept. 8, 1915 in Missouri, she was the fourth of their nine children.

In 1921, they relocated to San Francisco and she often recalled her first memory of her adopted hometown by being struck by how beautiful and brightly Market Street was when they arrived at the Ferry Building.

She returned to Winters to raise her three children and owned and operated The Winters Laundromat. She was an active member the community, belonging to the Presbyterian Church, The Guilde, Daughters of the Eastern Star, Fortnightly club, and enjoyed hosting bridge card games with friends her home.

She also had the opportunity to travel around the world and proudly displayed on her walls the souvenir plates that she had purchased from each country that she visited. Juanita is survived by her sons, Paul Mosier of Arlington, Oregon, Roger Mosier and his wife Vickey, of Winters, and daughter Judy Hubert and her husband, John, of Gualala. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her sister Velma Lord from Oakland also survives her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Mosier, in 1949. A memorial service is planned for July 30, at the Pioneer Presbyterian Church on Russell Street at 2 p.m.

Friends and family are cordially invited to attend.

MOSS

Virginia Ruth Rourke Moss

Virginia Ruth Rourke Moss died peacefully at her home in Diamond Bar on April 7, 2002. Born Dec. 13, 1921, in Lajord, Saskatchewan, Canada, and raised in Davis, she was 80.

She graduated from Davis High School in 1940 and lived in San Francisco for 30 years.

Popo, as she was known by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be remembered for her unending kindness, patience and immense generosity. She loved her garden and providing for the wild birds and other animals that visited it.

She worked hard, without complaint, and remained wholly self-sufficient and independent. She traveled to every continent and loved to listen to others' tales.

She was predeceased by her son, Michael Moss.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Dan Pagee; son, Matthew Moss and his friend Margean Burg; daughter-in-law Pat Pulvurenti; grandsons, Jim Pagee, Shawn Pagee and his wife Miriam; great-grandsons, Teddy and Michael Pagee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gar and Rita Rourke, Cal and Portia Rourke and Herb and Catherine Rourke; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

"Jin's cooking, hospitality and her little giggle will be missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing her, " said her brother, Herb Rourke.

Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. in downtown Davis. Interment will be at the Davis Cemetery.

Donations in her name may be made to the Boy Scouts of America and/or the Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202.

MOSSMAN

Jessie Ann Mossman

Jessie Ann Mossman died unexpectedly on March 13, 2006, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. She was 89.

Born Oct. 11, 1916, to Oscar and Mary (Berry) Charlesworth in Newton, Iowa, she attended area schools through her graduation from high school. In 1934, she relocated to Stockton where she lived for 21 years until moving to Woodland in 1955, where she lived for the past 56 years. She was employed in sales at Leitholds Rexall Drug in Woodland for more than 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Mossman, and her daughter, Jeannie Walsh.

She is survived by her son, Fred Mossman and his wife Kathy of Frederick, Md.; two sisters, Joan Le Forrester and Geraldine Stevens, both of Sacramento; granddaughters Nicole Howard, Tammy Walsh, and Leah Hairston and her husband Jim; and great-grandchildren Bradley Finley, Trent Hairston, Alisha Hairston and Tristin Howard, all of Woodland.

Private family services will be held at a later date. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

MOTRONI

Elsa L. Motroni

Elsa L. Motroni died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 at her home in Jackson at the age of 85 years. She was born June 24, 1920 to George and Katrina (Bender) Dimmig in Acampo. Elsa was a member of the Sutter Amador Hospital Auxiliary, the Republican Women and the Order of the Eastern Star.

The family says of "Gramma Doug," "Our mom and grandma had a great sense of humor. She was an avid gardener and loved her pets. She enjoyed traveling, taking trips with her daughters and visiting with her friends. She loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, spoiling them with treats and little outings. She will be greatly missed."

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Katryn and Mel Glunt, Janet and Ron Bozzo all of Sutter Creek; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Floyd Chapman of Healdsburg; grandchildren, Greg and Martha Glunt of Rancho Murieta, Jeff Glunt of San Antonio, Texas, Kristi Fidel Baldenegro of Plymouth, Amy and Eric Buras of Fairfax, Va., Alison Bozzo of Elk Grove; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her favorite beloved cat, Oliver.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service Sunday, Nov. 27 at 2 p.m. at Rollingwood Clubhouse in Jackson.

Inurnment will be Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland. Memorial contributions may be made to Sutter Amador Hospital Auxiliary, 200 Mission Blvd. Jackson, 95642. Arrangements have been entrusted to Daneri Mortuary in Jackson.

MOTRONI

Gilbert Dalfio Motroni

Gilbert Dalfio Motroni died in his Esparto home following a brief bout with cancer Thursday July 22, 2004, ate age 73.

Born Aug. 10, 1930, a Woodland native, he had been a lifelong Yolo County resident. He attended Beamer Elementary and Woodland High schools and graduated with the class of 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a cook during the Korean War. He was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan, and earned the Army of Occupation Medal; and Sharpshooter and Expert Rifleman medals; and, was honorably discharged in April 1953, having obtained the rank of Sergeant. He was an Esparto orchard rancher for the past 50 years and served as a Board of Trustee member for the Capay Cemetery District from 1962 until 1982.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Motroni of Esparto; daughter, Cindy Stewart of Woodland and husband Richard Stewart of Oroville; son, Michael Motroni and wife Kim of Woodland; granddaughter, Susan Stewart of Esparto; grandson Michael Donovan of Woodland; and mother, Della (Vannucci) Motroni of Woodland. Also surviving is his aunt and uncle, Joy and Paul Vannucci of Davis, aunt, Victoria Harder of Woodland; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Guido Motroni, in 1977.

The family requests any memorials be directed to the Yolo County Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, Calif. 95617; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Services: Respecting the wishes of Mr. Motroni, no funeral service is scheduled. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Kraft Bros. Funeral Home of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.

MOTTA

Lester J. Motta

Lester J. Motta died at his home in Carmichael Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004 at age 94. He had been a resident of Carmichael for the past 40 years.

Mr. Motta was born on the family ranch in the Salinas Valley April 5, 1909 to Mary and Gildo Motta. The family moved to Arizona before it was a State. They farmed there until moving to Woodland in 1920. His parents owned a farm North of Woodland. Mr. Motta attended Woodland schools and graduated from Woodland High School in 1927. He also attended Heald Business College.

Upon graduation Mr. Motta went to work for Diamond Match Co. He had a 45 year career with the company, retiring from Diamond International as a corporate officer in 1974. While working in Stockton he met his wife of 53 years, Ethel Clancy Motta who died in 1989.

Mr. Motta was transferred to Chico where the couple lived 25 years and raised their three children, a daughter Judy and two sons Tom and Jim. In 1964 the corporate headquarters were moved to Sacramento, and the Mottas moved to Carmichael.

Survivors include his children Judy Motta Simonsen and husband Toby of Carmichael; sons Tom Motta and wife Andrea of Chico and Jim Motta and wife Martha of Sammamish, Wash. He leaves eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves his companion of 13 years, Virginia Hamilton and his sister, Mary (Motta) Heney of Woodland.

In addition to his wife, Ethel, Mr. Motta was preceded in death by his father and mother and three brothers, Walter, James and Peter who was killed in World War II. A grandson Thomas Motta died in 1990.

Mr. Motta was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Carmichael where he was an usher for 35 years. He had been a director of the Sacramento Valley Better Business Bureau and had been an Elk member for 61 years.

Visitation will be today Thursday, Jan. 22, 4 to 6 p.m. at Lind Bros. Mortuary, 4221 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael, with a vigil service to follow at 6 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 5751 Locust Ave., Carmichael, 95608.

The family requests memorials be directed to San Juan Mercy Hospice Center, 3400 Data Dr., Rancho Cordova, CA 95670; to St. John the Evangelist Church Building Fund; or the charity of donor's choice.
