Pat Elva Mae Murgia
Pat Elva Mae Murgia died in Woodland Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at age 70.
Born Nov. 12, 1933 in Missouri, Mrs. Murgia was the daughter of Lou Ella Griffin. She marriage Pete Murgia and the couple lived in Chico before settling in Esparto. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Pete Murgia of Esparto; daughters, Silvia Murgia of Paradise, Charlotte Shields of Chico and Margaret Alvarez of Marysville; sons, Dennis Bennett of Oregon; Charles Bethard of Oregon, Rodney Bethard of Colusa and Ben Shields of Chico; stepsons, Tracy and Paul Murgia, both of Chico; sisters, Judy Creamer of Esparto and Darlene Brown of Oroville; brother, Mike Wagner of Indiana; 27 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eagles Memorial Fund in care of Newton-Bracewell Chico Funeral Home.
Services: Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Clear Creek Cemetery.
MURPHEY
Sylvia Mae (Springer) Murphey
Sylvia Mae Murphey (ne้ Springer), beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away April 28, 2005 at age 62 in San Benito, Texas.
Sylvia was born in Vallejo Nov. 18, 1942 to Fred and Dorothy Springer. She lived and worked in the Woodland area as a cosmetologist for several years. During the last 20 years, she moved to Alaska, Chicago and Missouri to be near her grandchildren. She was a creative person who loved genealogy, art, sewing, dancing and traveling. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the greatest joys of her life.
She is survived by her father, Fred Springer and his family; her children, Jerry Murphey and his wife Celia, Bambi Garvin and her husband Chuck, John Murphey and his wife Lora, Mike Murphey, Susan Morgan and her husband Chuck and Aaron Murphey; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother Jim Springer; sisters Carole Preston, Pat Dewberry and her husband Don, Debbie Holguin and her husband Larry and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 850 Pioneer Ave., Woodland at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7. A graveside service at Woodland Cemetery and a luncheon at the church will follow.
Donations can be made to the National Down Syndrome Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation or to the local charity of your choice.

John D. Murphy
John D. Murphy of Esparto died in Sacramento Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at age 73.
He was born Dec. 13, 1931 in Sacramento.
He had been a Yolo County resident for 16 years.
He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

MURNIK
Sally Murnik
Sally Murnik, a thirty year resident of Winters, died on February 7, 2000 at Courtyard Healthcare Center in Davis. Born April 29, 1905 in South Dakota, she was 94.
Mrs. Murnik was the daughter of Peter and Pauline Edelman. She came to the state of California in 1931 and settled in Santa Barbara. She was of the Jehovah Witness faith and a homemaker.
Survivors include: sisters, Cora Fell of Anchorage, Alaska and Violet Jaworski, of Baltimore, Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Murnik.
Services were private and the burial will take place in the family plot in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, South Dakota.
Arrangements were handled by Smith's Colonial Chapel.
MURPHY
Charles Emmett "Murph" Murphy
Charles Emmett "Murph" Murphy of Surprise, Ariz., died on Jan. 23, 2005, after a two-year battle with colon cancer. He was 82.
Services were held in Surprise, Ariz., with the burial at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.
He was born in Chicago on Dec. 29, 1922, to Michael and Norma Murphy.
After serving in the Army during WWII and attaining the rank of lieutenant, he moved his young family to Davis in 1951. He taught biology among other courses at Vacaville High School for the next 18 years. While his family was growing, he and his wife Patricia owned and operated the Portrait House on C Street until 1959. He was involved in many Davis service groups.
In 1969, he moved to Palm Desert, where he taught at La Familia High School in Thermal. After his wife Pat died, he re marriage and moved to Surprise, Ariz., in 1990, and later re marriage.
He always maintained a love for life, its creatures and the wonders of creation, his family said. His curiosity about his surroundings brought out the teacher in him and he encouraged others to strive to learn. He will be missed as a loving husband and father, whose humor was always ready to bring a chuckle.
He is survived by his wife Joan Murphy of Surprise, Ariz.; sons Steve Murphy and wife Marcia of Williamsburg, Va., and Mike Murphy and his wife Brigitte of Davis; and daughter Tara Murphy of Palm Desert; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
MURPHY
Florence W. Murphy
Florence W. Murphy died June 26, 2001. Born in Tremont on Nov. 6, 1897, she was 103.
She marriage Elmer Murphy in December 1923 and was a homemaker, wife and mother. Family, home and church were the most important things to her. She was described by her family as even-tempered and never complained. She coped with what life handed her and made the best of the situation, whatever it was.
"She was beautiful inside and out, " her family said.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Elmer Murphy, and a daughter, Virginia Bartleson Chaplin. She is survived by a son, Jim Murphy and his wife Beverly; a grandson, Stephen Bartleson and his wife Debbie; two granddaughters, Jeanine Rojko and her husband Eric, Coleen Spry and her husband Steve; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was a longtime member of the Fair Oaks Presbyterian in Fair Oaks. Services were held earlier this month.
