Carol Vincent Scott died in Kaiser Permanent Hospital in Sacramento early Thursday morning, Feb. 1, 2001, at age 74.
Born Dec. 11, 1926, Mrs. Scott was a retired Woodland businesswomen and homemaker.
She met her husband while working in management for Sears and Roebuck in Southern California.
She was also a faithful volunteer, working as a teacher's aid, Kiwanis, Make a Wish Foundation and the Bob Hope Cultural Center in Rancho Mirage.
Her and husband were owners of Home Movies Rentals in the Lucky Shopping Center in Woodland in the early to late 1980s.
Her professional career included working for the Yolo County Fliers Club and the Placer County Clerk in Auburn.
After attending the University in Washington, she moved in 1944 to Palm Springs for health reasons.
She continued to live in California except for a few years in the 1990s when she and her husband lived in Rio Rancho, NM.
The Scott's considered Woodland to be their home town for the last 21 years.
According to her family members, "she was an excellent cook and seamstress.
Her recipes won awards from Better Homes and Gardens and the Sacramento Union Newspaper."
She was also a member of the Graniteware Society of the United States and a charter member of the Quilter's Hall of Fame in Marion, Ind.
Mrs. Scott is survived by her husband, Joe Scott; daughter, Susan Tarleton of West Sacramento; son, David Lyon of Philomath, Or.; and stepdaughter, Jolie Wiebe and husband Kurt of Placerville.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Tarleton of Woodland, Winter Jenssen of Woodland, Lauren Weigel of Woodland and Morgen Wiebe of Placerville; brother and sister-in-law, retired The Rev. H. Wilton and Theo Vincent of Placerville.
Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents, The Rev. Hubert and Blythe Vincent; and two older sisters.
A graveside service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Woodland Cemetery.

John Douglas Goodall
John Douglas Goodall died in Woodland Memorial Hospital, Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at age 69.
Born Dec. 6, 1931, in Dawson Springs, Ky., Mr. Goodall was a resident of Woodland for over 40 years. He has been prominent in Woodland as a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2345, manager of the local Kragen Auto Supply having retired in 1993, co-chairman of the "Friends of Freeman Park, " and captain of Freeman Park neighborhood watch.
Mr. Goodall is survived by his wife, Susan Goodall; daughters, Cindy Graham and husband Jeff, Bonnnie Doerr, Nancy Goodall and Laurie Goodall, all of Woodland; and sons, Robert Goodall, also of Woodland and Timothy Goodall and wife Stephanie of Citrus Heights.
He is also survived by his granddaughter, Emily Sueann Goodall of Woodland; grandsons, Joshua and Billy Thompson, Willie Ritchie, Daniel Goodall, all of Woodland, Jeremy Goodall of Citrus Heights and Robby Thompson of Bakersfield; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Christian, and Keely Thompson of Texas and Jasmine and Billy Thompson of Bakersfield.
Also surviving is his sisters, Carol Thompson and Sandy Goodall of Monroe, N.C., Nancy Taulman of Indianapolis, Ind.; brothers, Newton, Mike, Ricky, and Donald Goodall of Longwood, Fla., and Glen Goodall of Plant City, Fla.; and sister-in-law, Nancy McClure Rogers and husband Earl of Rocklin.
Mr. Goodall was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Bonnie Goodall; sisters, Patricia Lyons and Barbara Newton; and brother, Stephen Goodall, all of Florida.
Cremation is pending A memorial in Freeman Park will be planned following the annual community-wide Easter egg hunt scheduled on Saturday, April 15. This activity was one of Mr. Goodall's special projects and will continue as planned.

Dianne 'Meddock' Plunkett
Dianne "Meddock" Plunkett died in her Sacramento home Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at age 44.
Born Nov. 29, 1956, in Coalinga, Mrs. Plunkett had been a resident of Sacramento for the past three years after having relocated from her Yolo County home. According to her family members, "she enjoyed crafting and being with children more than anything else in life."
Mrs. Plunkett is survived by her husband, Richard Plunkett; children, Ricky Plunkett, Brittany Plunkett, Chris Winn, Ryan Clark and Michael Winn, all of Sacramento; and five grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Darlene McKenzie and husband Darwin of Addy, Wash., and Dorothy Murphy and husband Richard of Woodland; brothers, Danny Meddock and wife Linda, also of California, Donnie Meddock and wife Mary of Oak Harbor, Wash., Dale Meddock and wife Diane of Salmon, Idaho, and Dwight Meddock and wife Kay, and Tommy Massengill and wife Beth, all of Woodland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Adeline Massengill; and brother, Dirrell Meddock.
A graveside service is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. today, Wednesday, in Monument Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Robert Hargrave of the Church of the Nazarene of Woodland officiating.

Edward Oliver Crider Sr.
Edward Oliver Crider Sr. died in his Esparto home Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at age 73.
Born Dec. 16, 1927, in Ingram, Texas, Mr. Crider was a resident of Yolo County for 48 years. He was the son of the late James and Agnes Crider of Kerrville, Texas. He was employed by Caltrans for 27 years, retiring in 1991. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Tarama, an aircraft carrier, during World War II. He resided in Kerrville, Texas, until moving to Esparto in 1952. He was a lifetime member of the Esparto Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7143. He was a member of the Esparto Volunteer Fire department for many years serving as honorary chaplain. He served as the chairman for the Esparto Community Blood Drive for over 20 years. He was a member and deacon of the Esparto Baptist for many years with his priority being to serve the Lord. He enjoyed his family.
Mr. Crider is survived by his wife, Pauline Long Crider of Esparto; children, Diana Johnston of Sacramento, Edward Crider Jr. of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Cayce Pereira and husband Lynn of Woodland, Richard Crider and wife Brenda of Esparto, Jo Denning and husband Woodie of Antelope, Bill Crider and wife Yvonne of Sacramento and Lisa Crider-Howell of Esparto.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Edward Whitfield of Livermore, Robin Souza and husband Manny of Woodland, Brandon Crider of Santa Fe, N.M., Adrienne Crider of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Stephen Rupp, Domonique, Mary, Michael Pereira of Woodland, John, T.J., Joseph, Kamie Crider of Esparto, Andrea Corvino of Sacramento, Seth Crider of Sacramento and Anthony, Christopher, Nicholas Crider-Howell of Esparto; and great-grandchildren, Shayne and Haley Souza and Aly-Jo Corvino.
Also surviving is his sister, Minnie Pember of Bandera, Texas; brothers, Wylie Robert and Clarence Crider of Kerrville, Texas; and numerous nieces, and nephews.
Mr. Crider was preceded in death by his sisters, Nancy Sherman, Leliah V. Roberts and Elizabeth Klein; and brothers, Amos and Roy Crider, all of Texas.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, in McNary's Chapel.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, in Capay Cemetery, with Pastor Eldon Wilson officiating.

Hilda O. Wright
Mrs. Hilda Wright died Monday, April 9, 2001, at Courtyard Health Care in Davis. She was 83.
Born April 12, 1917, near Huron, Ind., to Mr. and Mrs. William R. Tincher, she had been a resident of California since 1936.
Mrs. Wright was a bookkeeper at Quessenberry's Rexall Drug Store for 23 years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and making quilts, according to family members. She was a 50-plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a 50-plus year member of the Davis Rebekah Lodge, the Davis Community Church, the American Association of Retired Persons, the Davis Senior Center and a charter member of the Davis VFW Auxiliary.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Wright, in 1989.
She is survived by her sisters; Josephine Luft of Davis, Mary Alice Siri of Reno and Norma Hanson of Hayfork.; brother, John Tincher of Orleans, Ind. Mrs. Wright also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at the Davis Funeral Chapel, 116 D St. and are invited to attend funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Davis Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Davis Cemetery.

Chauncey Rocky Battaglia
Chauncey Rocky Battaglia died in his Woodland home Friday, April 6, 2001, at age 68.
Born Jan. 23, 1933, in San Jose, Mr. Battaglia attended elementary school in the Willow Glen area and at Herbert Hoover Jr. High School and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. He spent two years in the U.S. Army as a cook. In 1955, he and his father opened Pizza Village an Italian food restaurant on Beach Street in Santa Cruz and another on Willow Street in San Jose. In 1960, he moved his family to Corning, where he farmed and opened Marco's Pizza parlor. He was in the restaurant business for 28 years. After selling his business, he worked as a kitchen manager for Tehama County Right Road Recovery Center adding to his many friends in Corning. Retiring in 1999, he moved to Woodland to be near his grandchildren.
Mr. Battaglia is survived by his wife, Anna Battaglia of Woodland; sons, Chauncey Battaglia Jr. and wife Betty of Cottonwood, and Marc Battaglia and wife Cherri of Woodland; grandchildren, Chauncey Battaglia III of Lake Tahoe, Anthony Battaglia and Gina Battaglia of Davis, Marc Battaglia and Nick Battaglia both of Woodland.
He is also survived by his mother, Frances Battaglia of Santa Cruz; sister, Margaret Faitos and husband Nick of Santa Cruz; mother-in-law, Neva Duzdevich of South Lake Tahoe; sisters-in-law, Karen Battaglia of Sacramento, Janet and Vern Von Raesfeld of South Lake Tahoe, Judy and John Tirri of Gilroy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Battaglia was preceded in death by his father, Rocky Battaglia; brother, Rick Battaglia and grandson, Adam Battaglia.
Interment is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, Santa Clara.

Lucille Nurse Monroe
Lucille Nurse Monroe died in Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, Woodland Saturday, Feb. 4, 2001, at age 90.
Born July 6, 1910, in Sacramento, Mrs. Monroe and her husband resided in the Monroe Ranch in Capay for most of their marriage life. They marriage in Carson City, Nev. She was the daughter of the late Rose and Carolyn Nurse. She was a long-time member of the Esparto Countryside Church. According to her family members, "she loved to travel, even if it was a short jaunt to Woodland. She sang beautifully and played the piano with style. She socialized whenever possible and loved to just visit with her friends and family. She also shared many memories to her grandchildren in her "go-go" attitude, great love of music and surprise-filled Christmas presents. She was "Grandma Lucy" to her grandchildren."
Mrs. Monroe is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Monroe, who still lives at home in Esparto; children, Nancy Grasty and husband James of Sacramento, Jim Monroe and wife Barbara of Esparto, and Martha Donnenwirth and husband Ray of Portola; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her sisters, Audrey Tadlock of Esparto, and Norma Garrison and Eleanor Parker, both of Woodland; and numerous cousins.
Mrs. Monroe was preceded in death by her brothers, Ashley, Forrest and Elwood Nurse.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. today Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the Capay Cemetery, with The Rev. John Dewey, officiating.
