Ellen Lona Williams died in Woodland Memorial Hospital with her family at her side on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at age 73.
Born May 20, 1927, in Fayetteville, Ark., Mrs. Williams was a resident of Yolo County for 55 years. She was the daughter of the late Jim and Nancy Warford. She worked at Contadina for over 30 years. According to her family members, "she loved sewing, quilting and crafting. She also loved making her grandchildren clothes."
Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, Danny Smyth and wife Joanne, Dennis Smyth, Donna Kelso and husband Alan and Terri Wages; grandchildren, Tammy Crewdson, Lorie, Crystal, Daniel and Katie Smyth, Chris Kelso, Buster Wages and Ellen Tetz; great-grandchildren, Jenna and D.J. Crewdson, Kortney Perry and Joseph Muzzi, all of Woodland.
She is also survived by her brother, Homer Warford, also of Woodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel Smyth, in 1953 and second husband, Buster Wages, in 1961; and brothers, Harvey, Elmer, Calvin, Harl and Leonard Warford.
Visitation is scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. today Friday, Jan. 26, at McNary's Chapel.
A graveside funeral service is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the Woodland Cemetery.

Layton D. Knaggs
Layton D. Knaggs died peacefully in his Woodland home Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at age 95.
Born Aug. 21, 1905, in Williams, Mr. Knaggs was the son of the late Edith and Herman Knaggs. He came to Woodland in 1927 to work as a distributor for the Texaco Oil Company. In 1935 Layton bought the Dodge and Plymouth dealership not wanting to compete with his friend and hunting partner Sid Epperson who owned Woodland Heritage Cadillac. With the success of his automobile business, he began purchasing marginal Yolo County land and developing it into productive farmland. He worked to amass the largest privately held walnut orchard in California. He remained active in his farming endeavors up until last year. In addition to being an avid game hunter, he was a longtime member of the Woodland Rotary Club.
Mr. Knaggs is survived by his daughter, Frances Daley and husband Budd of Rio Vista; grandchildren and their spouses, Scott Daley of Dublin, Devin and Pat Ferryman of Walnut Creek, Bryan Daley and Betsy of Concord and Charlie Puett, also of Concord; and great-grandchildren, Abigail Ferryman of Walnut Creek and Christopher and Scott Kiernan of Concord.
He is also survived by his sister, Lola Butler of Yuba City.
Mr. Knaggs was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Hazel Burks Knaggs, in October of 2000.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. today Friday, Jan. 26, at McNary's Funeral Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland.

Eleanor Martha Kingery
Eleanor Martha Kingery died in Woodland Memorial Hospital Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at age 81.
Born Feb. 4, 1920, in Worthington, Minn., Mrs. Kingery was the only child of the late Oscar and Mary (Roberts) Moe. She attended high school in Worthington, and then was marriage to Doyle Kingery on July 31, 1937. She moved to Woodland in the summer of 1963 and worked for Sears, Roebuck & Company until her retirement in 1979, managing the catalog store on Main Street. She was a member of the Yolo County Business and Professional Women's Associating. According to her family members, "she had many interests in life including bowling, camping with friends, fishing and she particularly loved to spend her retirement years with her husband traveling in their RV." She was also extremely active with the American Legion Post 77 Woman's Auxiliary, in Woodland, where she held many posts and was also the President of the Auxiliary.
Mrs. Kingery is survived by her daughter, Mary Alice Flesch and husband Francis of Great Falls, Mont.; son, Robert Kingery and wife Joan of Woodland; granddaughter, Alice Flesch of Helena, Mont.; grandsons, Matt Flesch of Radcliff, Ky., and Jon Kingery of Woodland; and great-grandchildren, Roger and Brooke of Helena, Mont., and Caitlin of Radcliff, Ky.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Kingery.
A graveside committal service is scheduled at 11 a.m., today Friday, Feb. 1, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland. Friends and family are invited to attend.

Helen M. Peyton
Helen M. Peyton died in her Woodland home surrounded by her family, at age 87.
Born Jan. 3, 1915, in Leadhill, Ark., Mrs. Peyton was the daughter of Eugene and Minnie Fain. She and her family moved to California in 1937, first settling in the Chico area and later moving to Sutter Basin, where she lived until 1948 before moving to Woodland. She was the owner/manager of the Court Cafe, which still stands on East Street. She worked at the Fashion for many years and later became one of the first women Real Estate Agents in Woodland. According to her family members, "she loved her family and home."
Mrs. Peyton is survived by her husband of 52 years, Robert B. Peyton; children, Lewis D. Patterson of Oroville, Joyce Hunter of Woodland, Rex Patterson and wife Joni of Loma Rica, Beverly Harris of Woodland, and stepchildren, Judy Leddy, Beverly Bailey, and Barbara Peyton; grandchildren, Robert L. Campbell, Carla E. Coulter, Cindy M. Todd, Ronald J. Patterson, Teri Silva, Larry Fitzgerald, Darren Fitzgerald, Tim Stumpf, Danielle Alarcon, Gay Lynn Duncan, Kimberly Patterson, Lisa Gray, Mark Soga, Jim Leddy and Sterling Bailey; 28 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by his sisters, Phyllis J. Gabler, and Dora M. Bell; and brother, John C. Fain.
Mrs. Peyton was preceded in death by her sister, Audrey Fain; and brothers, Nicholas Homer, Jack, Fred and Paul Fain.
A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. today Friday, Feb. 1, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

Morris Bennett Danielson
Morris Bennett Danielson died of cancer Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at age 87.
Born Dec. 24, 1914, in Dassel, Minn., to Ole and Laura (Berg) Danielson, Mr. Danielson was the tenth born of 12 children. He resided in Woodland for over 60 years and was employed by Pacific Gas and Electric Company where he retired in 1976. Prior to that he farmed in Yolo County for many years and was the owner of Engine Parts and Machine in Woodland. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church of Woodland, a 62-year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a 40-year member of the BPOE Elks.
Mr. Danielson is survived by his daughters, Janice Hoagland and husband Terry of Woodland, Susan Brugh and husband Michael of Davis and Pamela Hunter and husband Steve of Woodland; son Lewis Danielson and wife Sylvia of Portland, Ore.; and grandchildren, Michael Marcum and wife Sharon of Woodland, Aimee Danielson of Portland, Ore., Christy Herr of Woodland, Bret and Jared Hunter of Chico, and Melissa and Leanna Brugh of Davis.
He is also survived by his brother, Leonard Danielson of Waconia, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Danielson was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Adeline (Addie) on April 2, 1996; a son, Gary Danielson; a grandson, Stanley Kipker; his parents, Ole and Laura (Berg) Danielson; sisters, Clara, Tena, Mabel and Violet; and brothers, Oscar, Harry, Walter, Levi and Clifford, all of Minnesota and Evald of Woodland.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m., today, Thursday, Jan. 31, at Kraft Brothers, 175 Second St., Woodland.
Service is scheduled at 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at the American Lutheran Church, 1114 College St., Woodland, with interment to follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland.

Argie Bell Sparks Hodge
Argie Bell Sparks Hodge died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at age 92.
Born May 23, 1909, in Newton County, Arkansas, Mrs. Hodge was the ninth of 10 children of the late Mary and Hiram Sparks. She marriage Abel Hodge in 1928 and had six children. The Hodge family moved to Knights Landing in spring of 1937, where she attended the Knights Landing Community Church. The family then made the shorter trip to Woodland in 1951 where she was a member in the Calvary Baptist Church. According to her family members, "she will be fondly remembered by her six children; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and their spouses for the care and affection she provided for them whenever they were in her presence. She had a sense of humor, and everyone felt welcome in her home. She loved cooking, especially baking biscuits and cookies for her family and friends and having in for coffee and cookies. She also loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens."
Mrs. Hodge is survived by her daughters, Josephine Storm and husband Norman of Dillon Beach, Ardith Disney and husband Bob of Woodland, Imogene Schmidt and husband Paul of Grant Pass, Ore., and Dianna Lopes of Woodland; sons, Joe Hodge and wife Lilah of Brookings, Ore., and Vernon Hodge and wife Matilde of Woodland; granddaughters, Cheryl Rhodes, Linda Bruhn, Janice Storm, Diane Miller, Susan Murphy, Debbie Groth, Tammy Biggs, Jeannie Kolb, Audrey Thomson, and Stacey Dolby; grandsons, David Hodge, Alan Schmidt, Bill Hodge Kurfust, and Eric Hodge; and niece, Imogene Austin and husband Dwight of Woodland; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Abel Hodge on Dec. 12, 1946.
Visitation was conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at McNary's Chapel, Woodland.
A funeral service was held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, at the Calvary Baptist Church, with interment followed at Woodland Cemetery.

Hester Cecelia Andrews
Hester Cecelia Andrews died in Mission dela Casa in San Jose Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at age 84.
Born June 27, 1917, in Fairfield, to the late Burt and Sadie Eigner, Mrs. Andrews was a Yolo County resident for the past three years. She was raised in Woodland and graduated from Woodland High School. She was a homemaker all of her adult life. She was a member of the Unity Chapter O.E.S. No. 22.
Mrs. Andrews is survived by her children, John Andrews and wife Arlene of San Jose and Michael Andrews of Sacramento; grandchildren, Chris Andrews of San Jose and Kirt Diggs of Fremont; great-granddaughters, Mariah Diggs of Union City and Cecelia Andrews of San Jose; and sister, Emily Collins of Woodland.
