John "Johnnie A" S. Aguilera
John "Johnnie A" S. Aguilera died after many years of illness Sunday Aug. 31, 2003, at age 72.
Born in Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico, Mr. Aguilera came to the United States at the age of 13. He has worked and resided in Dixon since 1953. He worked for Stoven's Meat Company, retiring after 32 years of service. He raised cattle, driving tractor, hunting, and was actively involved for many years in the local Charro Associations, serving as President for two different terms.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Margaret; three brothers; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Jack Priess; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cara Mendoza, John and Teresa Aguilera, Larry and Kris Aguilera, Mario and Pat Aguilera, and Robert and Pam Aguilera; and daughter-in-law, Katherine Mendoza; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his older brother and sister; and son, Ray.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Silveyville Cemetery.
AGUILERA
Margarito C. Aguilera
Margarito Cardenas Aguilera died April 24, 2002, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. He was 79 years old.
He was born in Mexico on Aug. 14, 1922, to the late Marcelino and Maria (Cardenas) Aguilera. He was a resident of Yolo County for the past four years, and was employed by Contadina for 30 years, last working as an equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Mercedes Aguilera of Woodland; daughter, Josefina Mendez and her husband Francisco of Dixon; three sons, Joe Aguilera and his wife Pam of Dixon, Fidel Aguilera and his wife Maria, and Ramon Aguilera, all of Woodland; and grandchildren, Frank, Sylvia and Robert Mendez, Brandon, Ashley, Andria and Christian Aguilera, all of Dixon, Esteban, Nicole and Brianna Aguilera, and Patrice and Louis Aguilera, all of Woodland.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Matilde Aguilera, and his daughter, Sylvia Gonzalez.
The vigil will be today at 7 p.m. at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St. in Woodland. The funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 503 California St., with interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
AGUILERA
Tony James Aguilera
A memorial service for Tony James Aguilera, 71, of Winters was held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 13, 2000, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Winters. Interment will be private.
Mr. Aguilera died on March 6, 2000, at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis.
Born on May 7, 1928, in Vacaville, he was raised in Vacaville and graduated from Vacaville High School in 1946. During his high school years, he was captain of the basketball team and one of the school's start athletes.
Mr. Aguilera served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He was a past president of the Vacaville Eagles. He moved to Davis in 1963 and worked for Hunt-Wesson Foods Inc. in Davis for more than 30 years, retiring as a warehouse supervisor. He moved to Winters in 1998. He enjoyed golfing and many other sports.
Mr. Aguilera is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jeannette of Winters; daughters and sons-in-law, David and Diane of Davis; daughter, Rosalynne of Vacaville; and grandchildren, Joshua of Marysville and Christina of Davis.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2425 Stockton Boulevard, Sacramento, 95817.
Arrangements were under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel.
AGUIRRE
Agapito Aguirre
Mr. Agapito Aguirre passed away on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004 at home in Winters. Born on Sept. 17, 1930, in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico, he was 74 years old.
Mr. Aguirre was a resident of Winters for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ignacia; children, Gilbert, Susana, Elsa and Brunilda; grandchildren Piialoha, Iwalani, Estrella, Crystal, Vincent, Oilipua, Lilinoe, Gilbert, Daniel and Luis, and four great-grandchildren, Daniel, Koa'rii, Eddie and Tehani. He is also survived by his three sisters, Eugenia, of Colorado, Crecensia, of Chihuahua and Narcisa, of Juarez.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Winters. A service will follow on Friday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at the same church.
He will be buried
at the Winters Cemetery.
AKIN
Jim Akin
Jim Akin died in his Robbins home Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at age 82.
Born June 15, 1920, in Springville, Mr. Akin was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a Springville resident for 66 years. He was self-employed rice farmer. He was active in many farm and community associations and activities. He moved to Sutter County in 1936, graduated from Yuba City High School. He worked for I.R. Ham who helped him start the farming.
Mr. Akin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Aldean Akin; sons, Dick and Jack Akin, all of Robbins; and daughter, Mary Akin of San Ramon.
He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Groefsema of Idaho; granddaughter, Carol Akin; grandsons, Jamie Akin and Jack Riley Akin Jr.; great-grandson, Sam Akin; daughter-in-law, Susan Akin, also all of Robbins; and son-in-law, Greg Abbott of San Ramon.
A reception will be held in Jim Akins honor after the harvest season at the Robbins Community Hall. The time and date will be announced at a later date.
The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95616; or the charity or Church of the donor's choice.
Ullrey Memorial Chapel and Crematory of Yuba City is assisting the family with arrangements.
ALARCON
Cheri Binet Alarcon
Cheri Binet Alarcon of Fairfield died in Vallejo Monday, Dec. 19, 2005 at age 55.
Mrs. Alarcon was born Nov. 9, 1950 in San Francisco. She had been a Yolo County resident for eight years. She was mom.
Survivors include Mrs. Alarcon's husband of 39 years, Albert Alarcon Sr.; her daughters, Dana and Deedra Alarcon; her son, Albert Alarcon Jr.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her brother, Dennis Schofield.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Alarcon, no services are scheduled. Her cremains will be scattered. The Fairmont Cremation Service of Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
ALARCON
Luis Perez Alarcon
Luis Perez Alarcon passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002 at Woodland Skilled Nursing in Woodland. Born on Aug. 19, 1925 in Brownsville, Texas, he was 76 years old.
Mr. Alarcon was raised in Texas. He was a Winters resident for the past 33 years. He was a laborer in the agricultural and construction industries for many years. He was described by his family as a hard-working family man who enjoyed the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Gloria G. Alarcon of Winters; children, Jose Alarcon and Frank Alarcon of Winters; grandchildren Clia, Ray and Monica Retes of Tracy; great-grandchildren Jennifer Kaguay and Josephine Retes; brother, Gilbert Alarcon of Winters and sister, Lupita Galvin of Ohio.
A rosary will be recited on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Winters. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, Feb. 22, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Private burial will be held at the Winters Cemetery. Smith's Colonial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
