Jahanbakhsh 'John' Abdi
Jahanbakhsh "John" Abdi died suddenly on Aug. 4, 2002, at his home in Las Vegas, Nev., from complications of heart disease. He was 63.
He was born in Tehran, Iran, on June 7, 1939. He came to the United States in 1959 to study engineering at the UC Davis. He became a restaurateur in the 1970s, opening French restaurants in Sausalito, Beverly Hills and Walnut Creek. For the past 15 years, he was a a pool contractor in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
He enjoyed working, cooking, politics and horse races, and he was an avid sports enthusiast.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gen. Jahanjir Abdi; mother, Afsarelmolook Abdi, both of Las Vegas; and grandson, Daniel Steven Abdi-Moreno of Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine Joanne Abdi of Las Vegas; his sons, Charles Abdi and his wife Diane of San Diego and John Darian Abdi of San Rafael; his daughters, Sue Abdi Lincoln and her husband Jim of Woodland, Mia Michelle Robertson and her husband Tony of Petaluma, and Danielle Cheri Abdi of San Rafael; stepson, Tarik Joseph Madanat; and stepdaughter, Nada Noah Madanat.
He is also survived by two granddaughters, Charlize Capri Abdi of San Diego and Mckenna Danielle Lincoln of Woodland, and step-granddaughter, Joanna Elizabeth Collins of Las Vegas; brother, Jahanshah Abdi and his wife Pari of Las Vegas; sister, Ozzi Abdi-Mohebbi and her husband Jamshid Mohebbi of Las Vegas; brother-in-law and best friend, Abbas Amidi of Iran; nephew, Paveh Amidi of Las Vegas; and niece, Pooneh Amidi Melton of Las Vegas.
He is further survived by many cousins and friends.
Services will be held next week in Las Vegas.
ABSTON
Annie Bell Abston
Annie Bell Abston of Sacramento died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at age 94.
Mrs. Abston was born Oct. 11, 1911 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. She had been a Yolo County resident for 60 years. She was a cannery worker at Contadina for 30 years and a nurse's aide at Alderson Convalescent Hospital for 25 years.
Survivors include Mrs. Abston's son, James R. Abston; her grandchildren, Richard and Tina Abston of Woodland; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Claude "Dock" Abston; her son, Richard Abston; her sisters, Grace and Willie Mae; and her brothers, Wesley, Fate, Dean and Ludie.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Abston, private services were held at Monument Hill Memorial Park. McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
ACEVEDO
Soledad M. Acevedo
Soledad M. Acevedo of Missouri City, Texas, formerly of Vacaville, died July 8, 2004, in Houston after a long illness.
Born March 29, 1918, in Penjamo, Mexico, she was a homemaker for 42 years in Vacaville, enjoyed door-to-door ministry as one of Jehovah's Witnesses and was very active in her church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Gregorio Acevedo.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Mario Moreno of Dixon; sons, Manuel and wife Margaret Guizar of Missouri City, Jaime "Richard" and wife Emma Delarosa of Tucson, Ariz., and Javier Guizar of Fairfield; sisters, Carmen and husband Paul of Chico, Mary of Chicago and Helen Flores; brothers, Raymond, Jessie, Tony and Isadore Chavez, all of Chicago; stepbrother, Robert Perez of Chicago; 22 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses west of Davis. David Silva presided.
Arrangements were under the direction of McCune Garden Chapel, 212 Main St. in Vacaville.
ACKERMAN
Jeanne (Shumway) Ackerman
Jeanne (Shumway) Ackerman, a longtime Davis resident but more recently a resident of Chico, died on June 20, 2004. She was 44.
She is survived by her sons, Joshua of Chico and Ryan; mother, Lois of Chico; and brother, Clint of Orland.
A celebration of her life will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the 5-Mile recreation area of Bidwell Park in Chico.
ACUNA
Jacinto Marquez Acuna
Jacinto Marquez Acuna of Madison died due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident Saturday, May 21, 2005 at age 16.
Jacinto was born Sept. 26, 1988 in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico to Carmen and Margarita (Acuna) Marquez. He had been a resident of Yolo County for seven years. He was a sophomore at Esparto High School.
Survivors include Jacinto's parents, Carmen and Margarita Marquez; his brother, Jesus Marquez, all of Madison; his aunt, Ramona Marquez; his uncle, Pedro Marquez both of Tucson, Ariz.; his grandparents, Jacinto and Maria Jesus Marquez of Mexico.
Services: Private family services are scheduled. Interment will be at Panteon Municipal in Tepache, Sonora, Mexico. Evergreen Funeral Service of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
ADAMO
Dorothy Bernice (Edwards) Adamo
Dorothy Bernice (Edwards) Adamo died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, following an extended illness, at age 75.
Born July 30, 1927, in New York, Mrs. Adamo was a graduate of Sacramento State with a bachelor of science degree in human resources and a minor in labor relations. She was a very active West Sacramento resident for almost 30 years and helped in its formation from an unincorporated area to an incorporated city. After the campaign was finished, she helped form the Coalition for City Improvement for the specific purpose of keeping the community focused on building a quality city. She worked tirelessly in the community (Founding president of the West Sacramento Founders' Day Picnic and founding officer of the local Presidents' Club, Candidate for City Council, an active Adopt-A-School/Class Program presenter, was appointed to the Hazardous Materials Commission, Yolo Grand Jury, and Chairperson of the City Commission on Aging) in which she was proud to be a resident.
Mrs. Adamo is survived by her sons, Tom Adamo of West Sacramento and Ben Adamo of Woodland; granddaughters, Barbara McHugh of Rochester, N.Y. and Jennifer Atkins of Portola; and great-grandsons, Ryan Cone and Tyler Atkins.
She is also survived by her siblings, sister, Jacqueline Killough; and brothers, Larry Edwards, Roger Edwards, and Wade Edwards.
Mrs. Adamo was preceded in death by her parents, William Edwards and Mae (Creighton) Edwards-DuBour; and brother, Richard Edwards.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at River of Life Community Church, at 2885 Davis Road, West Sacramento.

ADAMS
Destiny K. Adams
Destiny Kaylah Adams, born May 20, 1989, in Victoria, British Columbia, died Aug. 13, 2002, at the age of 13. Her family was by her side when she passed away at her home in Woodland.
She was an exceptional child with a love for all things in life. She enjoyed the years she and her family lived in Davis and was known by many of the people at the parks she often visited. She loved babies, dolls and sharing "love notes" with everyone. She also had a fondness for cats, dogs and all other animals.
A very compassionate and kind girl, she wanted all of her friends to share in the celebration of her life. Before her death, she asked that "everyone wear bright colors of life and nothing somber."
Her parents, Kristopher and Sherri (Snedden) Adams; her sisters, Shanna-Lee M. Adams and Tiffany L. Adams; her special friend Jake Vaughn; and all of Woodland survive her. Her paternal grandfather, Ted Adams of Portland, and her maternal grandmother, Jeanette L. Snedden of Victoria, British Columbia, also survive her.
The family would like to thank the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, the staff and nurses at Kaiser Hospital Intensive Care Unit on Morse Avenue in Sacramento and the personnel of Kaiser Hospice for all their support and kindness during her illness. The family would also like to extend a special invitation to her celebration to those individuals.
A chapel service will be held at Kraft Bros. Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland on Saturday at 5 p.m. All of her family and friends are invited bring a love note for her. Minister Harry Washington will be officiating. Interment will be scheduled at a later date for her immediate family only.
