Hugh Howard Amen
Hugh Howard Amen, age 70, died at home in Woodland on Sunday, July 6, 2003, of diabetes. He was born on March 9, 1933, in Sacramento, the sixth child of Henry and Lydia Amen and grew up on the Ventura Ranch, most of which today is part of the Woodland Industrial Park. Hugh attended local schools, graduating from Woodland High School in 1951 where he excelled in sports and was cocaptain of the 1950 Sac-Joaquin championship football team. He attended Sacramento Junior College before enlisting in the U.S. Navy (1952-1956) where he served aboard the U.S.S. Rogers. Following military service Hugh attended Oregon Technical Institute. He was employed by Yolo County, retiring from the Sheriff's Department in 1984. In retirement Hugh enjoyed traveling, watching his grandchildren participate in various sporting events and restoring his 1954 Ford convertible.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Karlstad Amen, daughters and sons-in-law, Stephanie and Franc Elizondo and Brenda and Tom Moreland; and grandchildren, Ashleigh Ruth Moreland and Wyatt Hugh Moreland, all of Woodland. Also surviving are brothers, Hank and Elmer Amen; sister, Pat Giguiere; sister-in-law, Linda Amen; brother-in-law, Stan Bender; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Amen; sister, Evelyn Bender; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Amen and DeeDee Amen; and his best friend Jack Witzelberger.
A private graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Monument Hill Memorial Park, with Dr. Jerry Pedersen of the Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be at Monument Hill Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis 95617.

AMES
Ethel Viola Ames
Ethel Viola Ames died in Alderson Convalescent Hospital of Woodland Monday, May 27, 2002, at age 81.
Born Nov. 11, 1920, in Red Oak, Okla., Mrs. Ames was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Nancy Lunsford. She had been a Yolo County resident for 43 years. She worked for the mobile home manufacturing facility in Woodland for several years.
Mrs. Ames is survived by her children, Peggy Keeton and husband Jim of Woodland, Nancy brown and husband Harvey of Knights Landing and Tommy Martin of Woodland; grandchildren, Lisa and Jimmy Keeton, Tina, Terri and Danny Garcia, Tony, Corene and Tommy Martin; and great-grandchildren, Kristi, Keri, Alec, Anthony, Cory, Jordan and Janett.
Other survivors include, Virdie Frankenhoff, Alek Lunsford and Grace Limbaugh, all of Hemet and Jim Lunsford of Woodland.
A graveside memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 22, at Woodland Cemetery.

Loretta (Savitsky) Ammons (1st of 2 obituaries)
Loretta Ammons left with the evening sun on Sunday, July 31, 2005, when she lost her brief fight to a very aggressive lung cancer. She was a leader, a saint, and devoted herself religiously to her family and friends.
Loretta Savitsky was born Feb. 20, 1942 in Mary-D, Pennsylvania. She graduated high school at the age of 16 and took a train to San Francisco, California where she met and marriage her husband, Lee. In 1969, they moved to Davis to work and raise their family.
Loretta began her career in the Temporary Pool at the University of California, Davis while attending a school for adults. She was hired as a Principal Clerk in 1971 by the Dean's Office, College of Letters and Science. Over the next 6 years, she advanced through several levels and was finally hired as an Assistant Dean in the College of Letters and Science in 1976. In 1995, she also accepted the Assistant Deanship for the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and ultimately retired from the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences in 2001. During her career, she worked for eight Deans and many Associate Deans.
She spent her retirement traveling, shopping, and living quite parallel to her dreams as a young woman, while caring for her husband. They celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary April 4, 2005.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Blanche Savitsky of Mary-D, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her husband, Lee Ammons; daughter, Tracy Wilkins; son, Ben Ammons; brother, Ed Savitsky and his wife Dianne; and sister-in-law, Wanda May DeBlanc. She also leaves 4 grandchildren, several nieces, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of her life will begin with a rosary at 7 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2005, at St. James Catholic Church, 14th and B streets, Davis. It will continue with a memorial the next morning at 10 a.m., at St. James Catholic Church, followed by a reception to exchange memories of all kinds.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.

Loretta (Savitsky) Ammons died of cancer in her Davis home Sunday, July 31, 2005, at age 63.

She was employed by UC Davis. In 1995 she began serving as assistant dean for the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences and ultimately worked for eight deans and many associate deans, before her retirement from the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences in 2001.
Mrs. Ammons is survived by her husband of 41 years, Lee Ammons of Davis; daughter, Tracy Wilkins of Woodland; son, Ben Ammons also of Davis; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Ed Savitsky and wife Dianne of Pennsylvania; and sister-in-law, Wanda May DeBlanc of Colorado Springs, Co.; and several nieces; great-nieces; and great-nephews.
The family requests donations be directed to American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice, in lieu of flowers. North Sacramento Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Meuanjai "Aun" Ampunsang
Meuanjai "Aun" Ampunsang, a UC Davis international graduate student, died April 2, 2002, in Sacramento. She was 25 years old.
She was born Aug. 20, 1976, in Nakorn Sri Tamarach Province in Thailand, and was the youngest child of Mrs. Duangjai Issarapaibul and Col. Tawan Ampunsang.
She graduated from primary school with the best mannered award at Daruneewattana School. She was also very proud of her accomplishments as the representative of the Nakorn Sri Tamarach province's swimming team.
Her family describes her as a pleasant, high-spirited child who was compassionate, generous and brilliant.
She and her sister, Orn, left the countryside and moved to Bangkok to live with their Aunt Sompol Na Songkhla and Uncle Amporn Songkhla for six years in hopes of pursuing their dream of attending Pan Smith Secondary School and later graduating from senior high school at Triem Udom Nmkloa.
Aun was a beloved student of every teacher who was lucky enough to have her as a pupil, her family says.
Upon graduating with honors with her bachelor's degree in biotechnology from Assumption University in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1997, she immediately joined the faculty of the university as a biotechnology lecturer.
In 2000 she was offered a full graduate fellowship from The Assumption University to earn her Ph.D. in food chemistry/biochemistry at the department of food science and technology at UC Davis, working under the direction of Professor Gary Smith.
She had completed all of her required course work by the end of the winter quarter 2002 and was happily looking forward to beginning her research for the Ph.D. degree.
Aun was preceded in death by her brother, Varuud, in 2001.
She is survived by her parents; her sister, Meuanphun Ampunsang; her paternal grandmother, Sarai Ampunsang; and her maternal grandmother, Kajit Patcharanond.
A celebration of her life will begin at noon Wednesday in the Cruess Hall courtyard at UC Davis. Her friends and colleagues will recount their memories of her. She had many friends in Davis who will miss her.

AMRINE
Clarence E. Amrine
Clarence E. Amrine, of Carmichael passed away peacefully on Jan. 9, 2003. He was 74 years old. A native of Oklahoma, he went to high school in Winters.
Mr. Armine served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. As a licensed contractor and owner of Amrine Construction for over 40 years, he was a 30 year member of Cement Masons Union #582. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and it was said that he grew the best vegetables around. Friends and family are saddened by the loss of this greatly respected, hard working man.
He is survived by his wife, Imogine; children Daniel Amrine, Paul Amrine and Judy Quincy; grandchildren Rebecca, John, Geneva, Angela, James, Emily, J. J., Lauren and Jennifer; great-grandchildren Abby, Jake, Mahala and Jeremiah; brothers and sisters Almetta Eaton, Rose Koolhof and Warren Amrine.
He was preceded in death by daughter Robert Berwith and siblings Clifford Amrine, Geneva McKinney and Florence McLain.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation Thursday, Jan. 16, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Price Funeral Chapel 6335 Sunrise Boulevard in Citrus Heights. Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m. at Antelope Christian Center, 4533 Antelope Road in Antelope. Interment will be at the Mount Vernon Cemetery, 8201 Greenback Lane in Fair Oaks.

ABBOTT
Robert Arthur Abbott
Robert Arthur Abbott died at his home northwest of Woodland Sunday, March 20, 2005 at age 83.
Mr. Abbott was born June 14, 1921 in Ames, Iowa. He had been a Yolo County resident for 70 years. He graduated from Davis High School in 1939 and attended UC Davis for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943 and flew B-24 Liberators in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he continued his education at UCD, graduating from the college of agriculture in 1948. He worked for the University of Hawaii Ag Economics Extension Program. He returned to the state to get his Master of Science and Ag Economics degrees in 1953 and later worked for the Sacramento County Agricultural Advisor. He worked for the California Department of Agriculture in the dairy industry for 35 years until his retirement in 1985. He was also a Beta Phi/Kappa Sigma fraternity advisor in the 1960s and was one of the founding members of the Capitol City Bird Society.
Survivors include Mr. Abbott's wife, Jessie Abbott, his daughters, Audrey Mitcheltree and her husband Dale of Oregon and Brenda and Candis Abbott of Idaho; his son, Dana Abbott of Sacramento; his stepchildren, Dawn Abbott and her husband Bruce of Esparto, Cheryl Hollingsworth of Georgetown and George Dinsdale and Julie Dinsdale both of Woodland; grandchildren, Ryan and Jason Mitcheltree, Carrie and Morgan Abbott, Jacob and Joshua Hollingsworth; two great-granddaughters; his nieces, Judy Bailard and Deborah Porch and his nephews, Fred Abbott III of Colfax and Bruce Abbott. He was preceded in death by his sister, Irene Abbott and his brother, Fred Abbott Jr.

Donald F. Adams
Donald F. Adams died at his home in Kelseyville Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005 at age 83.
Don was the devoted and loving husband of 62 years to Leah I. Adams of Kelseyville. Loving father of Steven Adams and his wife Barbara of Woodland and the late David Adams. Loving grandfather of Jeanne Kenyon and Mark Adams both of Woodland. Loving great-grandfather of Ashley Kenyon, Jenna Ciralo and John Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and Ida Adams.
A native of Petaluma, Don was a member of the Buckingham Golf and Country Club in Kelseyville. He attended and graduated from St. Vincent's Elementary School and Petaluma High School. He later served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during W.W. II. After his military obligation, he returned to Petaluma where he worked at the family-owned "Adams Paper Box Factory." Later he co-owned Adams-Traba Lumber Company working for over 20 years. Don was an active sports enthusiast, participating in many sports and excelled in golf, being the Petaluma Golf & Country Club and the Buckingham Golf and Country Club champion three times. He had three "Holes in One" during his golfing career. Don will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
