Janis M. Griffith
Janis M. Griffith died in Dixon Monday, April 14, 2003, at age 61.
Born Nov. 3, 1941, a native of Woodland, Ms. Griffith was a Dixon resident. She worked for UC Davis Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering as management service officer for 33 years. She was a member of the Dixon Women of the Moose Lodge No. 1787.
Survivors include her fiancee of seven years, Larry Kitchen; son, Chuck Craggs, both of Dixon; sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Janelle Aday of Elk Grove, and Mark and Patricia Aday of Chambersburgh, Pa; brother, Owen Griffith Jr. of Woodland; brothers and sisters-in-law, George and Deanna Griffith of Mont Clair, and Bill and Becky Griffith of Woodland.
The family requests memorials be directed to Sutter Hospice, c/o Sutter Davis Hospital, 2000 Sutter Place, Davis 95616. Arrangements are under the direction of Milton Carpenter Funeral Home of Dixon.
Services: Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. today Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home of Dixon. A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, also at Milton Carpenter Funeral Home, with George Griffith, officiating. Interment will follow at the Silveyville Cemetery in Dixon.
GRIMM
Richard E. Grimm
Richard E. Grimm, a UC Davis classics professor, died on Dec. 20, 1999. Born on Aug. 31, 1926, he was 73.
He was a native of Indiana and was the husband of the late Marguerite Dunton and Frances Salzmann Grimm.
No services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, P.O. Box 1824, Sacramento, CA 95812; or to the classics program at UCD, in care of David Traill, 750-8386.

GRIMSRUD
Loren W. Grimsrud
Loren "Bud" W. Grimsrud died March 19, 2001, at the Stollwood Convalescent Facility. Born Aug. 27, 1921, to the late Lawrence and Josephine Grimsrud, he was 79.
A Yolo County resident for 53 years, he was the former manager of Western Auto in Woodland and worked for Allied Van & Storage as sales manager for many years. He worked as crossing guard at Whitehead, Gibson and Maxwell schools for 10 years. He served on the Council of the American Lutheran Church, where he was a member for many years. After retiring, he loved to travel.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edna Grimsrud of Woodland; his children, Marc Grimsrud of Woodland and Janet Tyburski and her husband Mike of Lafayette; grandchildren, Erin and Lauren Tyburski of Lafayette and Matthew and Kristin Grimsrud of Woodland; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the American Lutheran Church, 1114 College St., Woodland. The family would prefer memorials to the American Lutheran Church, Woodland Memorial Hospital Foundation, Yolo Hospice or Stollwood Convalescent Hospital.
McNary's Chapel is assisting the family with the arrangements.
GROW-WARREN
Lorna Grow-Warren
Lorna Grow-Warren died April 9, 2001, at her home in Winters. Born Sept. 17, 1913, in Huntsville, Utah, to Lorin and Viola Wood Grow, she was 87.
She enjoyed quilting and made a new quilt for every wedding and new baby, as well as for grandchildren, family members and friends. She was actively involved in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed spending time with her large family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Warren, and brother, Davis Oman Grow.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Jeannine and Perry Clark; Gay and John (Al) Morgan; Lorin and Gloria Warren, all of Winters; Larry and Janice Warren of Galt; Carol and Kenneth Williams of Basalt, Idaho; Doug and Linda Warren of Knights Landing; Joyce and Larry Haws of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brothers and sisters, Theo and Sam Henderson of Rupert, Idaho; Wayne and Elaine Grow; Cecil and Elsie Grow, all of Boise, Idaho, and Kay and Ken Haunschild of Texas. She is also survived by 44 grandchildren, 59 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 435 Anderson Avenue, Winters. The funeral service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Winters Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, CA 95617 or the Winters Health Foundation, 23 Main St., Winters, CA 95694. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith's Colonial Chapel in Winters.
STOCKWELL
Kara V. Stockwell
Kara Veirs Stockwell died Oct. 15, 2000, after a battle with breast cancer. She was 31 years old.
Her energy and love for life was unmatched. She loved the outdoors, was active in 4-H, and participated in sports and student government. She attended Eureka High School, UC Davis and earned a master's of physical therapy at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She practiced physical therapy for four years, but insisted that her real career was a being a mother to her kids.
She is survived by her husband, Matthew Stockwell, and her two children, Kayla and Nathanael, all of San Juan Capistrano.
Her outgoing and loving personality will be missed by her family and friends.
Services were held today in Laguna Niguel. A graveside service will be Friday in Folsom.
STOKES
Henry Stokes
Henry Stokes died April 22, 2005, in Pleasant Hill. He was 88.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., on Dec. 21, 1917, he grew up in Kansas City. He earned a master's degree in science from the University Kansas City in Missouri. He serviced as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1948. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, three Overseas Bars and several ribbons honoring his service overseas.
He worked as a research technician at UC Davis, where he retired in 1988 after 37 years on the job.
He was a member of the UC Davis Half-Century Club. An avid golfer, he was the first black member of the Yolo Fliers Club in Woodland. His family says his passion was black-and-white photography. They said he loved photographing Yosemite, Point Lobos in Carmel and Monterey's Cannery Row. He also took pictures for UC Davis' animal science department.
He had no children, but took in Almeda Alonso and her daughter, Jennifer, in 1977. He viewed them as his daughter and granddaughter. When Jennifer died in 1985, and Almeda moved away, he was devastated. Two years later, Almeda moved him out of Davis to live with her in Contra Costa County, where she took care of him until he died.
He is survived by his sister, Emma McGinnis of Kansas City, Mo.; and Almeda Alonso of Contra Costa County.
He is further survived by his friends in Davis, Casey Coldwell, Linda and Jim Hitchcock, Ellie Ashmore, Bob Ashmore, Dr. and Mrs. Boeda, Johnny Carter, Ed Johnson, Mammy McGee, Edyth Grant and others.
