Marvin L. Maier
Marvin L. Maier died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. Born July 5, 1925, in Scotts Bluffs, Neb., he was 78 years old.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a resident of Yolo County for the past 60 years. He made agriculture his livelihood, working as a farmer.
He is survived by his daughters, Darla Tafoya and Brenda Pate of Woodland; Hedy Collins of Illinois; and Danya Galloway of Citrus Springs, Fla.; granddaughters, Carolyn, Annette and Diana Collins; grandsons, Randy Tafoya, Sean Galloway and Ben Pate; and a great-grandson, Daniel Galloway.
Private family services are planned at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Evergreen Funeral Services of Woodland.

Mrs. George C. Mallett
FORMER RESIDENT DIES
WOODLAND (Yolo Co.), Sept 9 - Word reached here today of the death in Oakland of Mrs. George C. MALLETT, an old-time Woodland resident. She and her sons, Will and Levi, and daughter, Carrie CONGRAVE, lived in Woodland for years. She was a noted temperance worker.

MALONEY
James Richard Maloney
James Richard Maloney, 72, of Winters, passed away on Sept. 4, 2004. He was a resident of Winters for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Maloney, of Corpus Christi, Texas; daughters Twila Cummings of Marlow, Oklahoma and Alana Reyes, of Vacaville; sons Virgil Seward of Corpus Christi and Robert Seward of Gonzalez, Louisiana; sister Audrey Ball, of Dallas, Texas; brother Harvey Maloney of Amarillo, Texas, 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Sept. 8, from 9-11 a.m. at Trevino Funeral Home. A chapel service was held at 11:30 a.m. with cremation following.

JOHNSON
Delia Marie Johnson
Delia Marie Johnson died at Sierra Healthcare, Davis Thursday, June 19, 2003, at age 98.
Born May 7, 1905, in Sturgis, S.D., Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rosana Hickey. Her family moved to Woodland in 1910. She attended Holy Rosary School and graduated Woodland High School. After her graduation she worked for her mother, delivering milk and baked goods and also at Fisher's Candy Store on Main Street, until her marriage to Charles H. Johnson Jr. from Santa Rosa. They resided in Woodland all of their marriage lives.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Robert Johnson and Vernon Ray Johnson and wife Vera of Woodland; grandchildren, Robert Johnson and wife Lynn of Sedro Wooley, Wash., Gayle Hawks of Woodland, Cynthia Silvia and husband Bill of Elk Grove, and James Johnson and wife Carole of Henderson, Nev.; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband Charles Johnson in 1975; son, Harold L. Johnson; daughter-in-law, Wilma Johnson; three sisters and two brothers.
The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95617. Arrangements are under the direction of Kraft Bros. Funeral Directors of Woodland.
Services: Respecting the wishes of Mrs. Johnson no services are scheduled. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery.
RHODES
Lois "Grandma" Murphy Rhodes
Lois "Grandma" Murphy Rhodes died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006 at age 87.
Mrs. Rhodes was born in Greeley, Colo. on June 6, 1918 to Joseph and Mattie Hofschulte. She served as executive director of the March of Dimes in Woodland beginning in the 1950s and became their national consultant for Mothers' Marches in the late 1970s. Later in the Santa Cruz area, she was the registrar for Soquel High School until she retired in 2002. In Woodland, she was active in both school and community work. In Santa Cruz, she volunteered at Dominican Hospital and two local soup kitchens. In Sacramento, she worked at the volunteer desk at Mercy San Juan Hospital and with Presentation Church's team at Loaves and Fishes.
Survivors include Mrs. Rhodes' daughter, Norine "Buni" Panick; her son, L.K. "Smokey" Murphy and his wife Polly; her daughter-in-law, Judy Murray and her husband, Barry; her grandchildren, Christopher Murphy and his wife, Laurie Kohn; Patrick "Chip" Murphy and his fiancˇe Tiffany Bos, Morgan Panick; her great-grandson, Aidan Kohn Murphy; her sisters, Sr. Esther Hofschulte of Milwaukee, Ruth Hofschulte of New Orleans, Virginia Berkmeyer of Phoenix; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Leonard Murphy Sr.; and her husband of five years, Frank "Tony" Rhodes.
The family requests memorials in Mrs. Rhodes' name be directed to Maryhouse at Loaves and Fishes, Sacramento, the Jesuits or a charity of the donor's choice.
Services: A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 at Lind Bros. Mortuary, 4221 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. Lind Brothers Mortuary in Carmichael assisted the family with arrangements.

Lois - or Grandma - was born in Greeley, Colo. on June 6, 1918 to Joseph and Mattie Hofschulte.

In 1940, Lois moved to California where she met and marriage Leonard Murphy Sr.
After Leonard Murphy's death in 1977, she marriage Frank "Tony" Rhodes in 1979.
Mr. Rhodes died in 1984. She leaves behind her son, L.K. "Smokey" Murphy and wife, Polly; her daughter, Norine "Buni" Panick, and her daughter-in-law, Judy Murray and husband, Barry.
Lois lived a full and wonderful life, especially cherishing her role as Grandma to Christopher Murphy and his wife, Laurie Kohn; Patrick "Chip" Murphy and his fiancˇe Tiffany Bos, Morgan Panick, and, most recently, the light of her life, her great-grandson, Aidan Kohn Murphy. She is also survived by her sisters, Sr. Esther Hofschulte of Milwaukee, Ruth Hofschulte of New Orleans, Virginia Berkmeyer of Phoenix and many nieces and nephews. Most recently in Sacramento, she was a fixture on Sundays at the volunteer desk at Mercy San Juan Hospital and on monthly Mondays with Presentation Church's team at Loaves and Fishes.
Her sense of responsibility - spending the time it takes to do a good job - was an inspiration to everyone who worked with her.
In addition, she had passionate interests in Notre Dame football, good books, current events and politics, especially the work of good Democrats.
Always active and healthy until her last 10 days, she will be remembered for her energy - the 3 miles she walked each morning, the soups and brownies she brought to places she worked, the cookies she baked for her grandchildren and the pies and dinners she made for holidays.
She was a wonderful, giving person and made many friends in Woodland, Santa Cruz and Sacramento.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Maryhouse at Loaves and Fishes, Sacramento, the Jesuits or a charity of your choice.
Rosary on Monday, Jan. 16 at 7 p.m. at Lind Bros., 4221 Manzanita Ave., Carmichael.
Funeral Mass on Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland.

RHYNE
Elin T. Rhyne
Elin Thora Rhyne died July 17, 2002, in Woodland. She was 82 years old.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1920, in Minnesota, Minn., to Guttormor and Ranveig Guttormsson. She marriage Emil Rhyne on Oct. 9, 1948.
The couple moved to California in 1962 from Milbank, S.D.
She was a Woodland resident for 37 years and retired from the Yolo County Mental Health Services Department after a 20-year career.
She was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation for the past 25 years. She volunteered for numerous charitable organizations in her community.
She was proud of her Icelandic heritage and was called "Amma" by her granddaughters. "Amma" is an Icelandic word for grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her son, Timmy Rhyne, in 1960; brothers, Jon and Ragnar; and sister, Fjola.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Emil Rhyne; sons, Mark Rhyne and his wife Racie of Cape Coral, Fla., and Paul Rhyne and his wife Capi of Woodland; and devoted grandchildren, Lydia and Lisa Rhyne of Woodland.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Lutheran Church of the Incarnation, 1701 Russell Blvd. in Davis.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society or to a nonprofit organization of the donor's choice.
