Purl Andrew "Andy" Nichols
Purl Andrew "Andy" Nichols a long time Woodland resident passed away peacefully with his family after a long illness. His passion included attending his Senior Men's Sunday School Class, his family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as, his flower garden. He was an outstanding husband to his wife of 59 years and a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Andrew worked in a variety of jobs over the years before he settled in with the California Department of General Services - Buildings and Grounds where he retired in 1988 after 22 years of service. Andrew is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nichols of Woodland. Brother Vernon Nichols of North Highlands and grandson Robert Michael Davis of Fontana, Ca. He is survived by his wife, Ivis Nichols. Daughter, Andrea Jo and husband Wayne Branham of Rogers, Arkansas. Daughter, Pamela and husband George Novak of Sacramento and son, Anthony and wife Marie Nichols of Woodland. Brother, Clarence and wife Virginia Nichols of Woodland and brother Jody and wife Ann Nichols of Roseburg, Oregon and sister-in-law Agnes (Vickie) Nichols of North Highlands. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who he loved with a passion.
Services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at Woodland United Fellowship, 240 North West St., Woodland, Ca. Interment will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park in Woodland. Family asks in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Woodland Christian School.
McNary's Chapel of Woodland is assisting the family with arrangements.
THOMAS
Margree M. Thomas
Mrs. Margree Thomas, a 43 year resident of Winters, passed away on May 31, 1999, at Sutter Davis Hospital in Davis. Born on September 22, 1922 in Paragould, Arkansas, she was 76 years old.
Mrs. Thomas was a member of the New Life Family Church in Winters. Family members said her life revolved around her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her children, James Thomas and wife Esther of Winters, Barbara Swink and Husband Randall of Corning, Robin Thomas and wife Barbara of Phoenix, Arizona, Wayne Thomas of Winters, Donna Stam of Texas, Debbie Howard and husband Dean of Hanford, Dorothy Rutler of Winters, and Tom Nelson and wife Donna of Roseville; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; sister Chalmus Ray of Michigan and brother Raymond Gibson of Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Howard Thomas in 1984.
Visitation was held on June 3, at Smith’s Colonial Chapel. A graveside funeral service was held on Friday, June 4, at 11 a.m. Arrangements were under the direction of Smith’s Colonel Chapel in Winters.
LOPEZ
Gabriela Rubio Lopez
Gabriela Rubio Lopez died Aug. 22, 2001, at Woodland Memorial Hospital. Born on July 15, 1914, in Suisun, she was 81 years old. She was a 51-year resident of Yolo County.
She worked at Contadina for several years, as well as doing day care out of her home. According to her family, she enjoyed gardening and loved to travel. Her family was very important to her.
She is survived by her daughters, Josephine Blankenship and her husband Jim of Canon City, Colo.; and Anna Northam and husband Don of Woodland; and her son Frankie and his wife Cindy Lopez of Woodland. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dan and Cindy Blankenship, and Jim and Jennifer Blankenship of Louisville, Colo.; Darrell Northam; Leann and David Cain; Christina Bradford; and Jennifer LeGrand, all of Woodland. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Curtis, Eric and Benjamin Blankenship of Canon City; two brothers, Salvador Rubio of Woodland and Christopher of Spain; and five sisters, Mary Espinosa, Anna Garin, Dolores Tabarez and Isabel Munoz, all of Woodland, and Antoinette Perez of West Sacramento.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Francisco Lopez, in February, and two brothers, Frank and John Rubio.
Friends are invited to attend the visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at McNary's Chapel, 458 College St. in Woodland, and are also invited to attend the funeral service, at 10 a.m. Monday at McNary's. Burial will follow at Monument Hill Memorial Park, 35056 County Road 22 in Woodland.
PENDEGAST
Henrietta W. Pendegast
A Sad Death - Mrs. Henrietta W. Pendegast, widow of the late W.W. Pendegast, died in Woodland last Saturday evening, and was buried
on Sunday afternoon. In speaking of her death, the Mail says: Mrs. Pendegast was a type of the noblest womanhood, and, by her many beautiful traits of character, won the friendship of a multitude of the best people in the State, who will be deeply grieved on learning of her death. The grief stricken and
Motherless children have the heartfelt sympathies of the entire community during the hours of their bereavement. The deceased leaves two daughters and a son to mourn her demise, besides many other relatives.

PENA
Leonardo T. Pena, Sr.
Leonardo T. Pena Sr. of West Sacramento died at Rideout Hospital in Marysville Monday, July 18, 2005 at age 39.
Mr. Pena was born Nov. 26, 1965 in Mexico. He had been a Yolo County resident for 35 years. He graduated from Woodland High School and worked for 20 years as a warehouseman.
Survivors include Mr. Pena's wife, Eva Pena of West Sacramento; his daughter, Erica Pena of West Sacramento; his sons, Rafael Pena and Leonardo Pena Jr. both of West Sacramento; his grandson, Jeremy Coates Jr.; his parents, Ramiro and Florinda Pena of Marysville; his sister, Maria Pena of Marysville; and his brother, Ramiro Pena of Marysville. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maria Rosario Pena and his brother, Alfredo Pena.
Services: Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 with a vigil and rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27 at Holy Rosary with Enrique Alvarez officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Lipp & Sullivan Chapel of Marysville is assisting the family with arrangements.
LOMPREY
Nellie Ruth Lomprey
Nellie Ruth Lomprey of Davis died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005. Born Jan. 25, 1915, in Staten Island, N.Y., she was 90 years old.
A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, at the Episcopal Church of St. Martin, 640 Hawthorn Lane in Davis.
She moved to California at age 13 with her family and went on to attend UC Berkeley, earning her bachelor of arts degree in 1938 and a master's degree in public health in 1951. She had an active career in public health education, working 29 years in federal, state and local agencies in California, Alaska and Washington, D.C. She retired in 1979.
In 1994, she moved from Berkeley to Davis, where she became active in many community organizations, including the Episcopal Church of St. Martin, International House, the Davis Senior Center and the University Retirement Community, where she lived for the past five years. She was surrounded by family, friends and caring hospice and URC nurses as her life drew to a close, family members said.
Her hobbies included a fascination with gems and minerals, which prompted an interest in "rock-hounding, " jewelry making and exhibiting fluorite specimens. She also took classes in geology, silver casting and lapidary, and collected art, Alaskan ivory and Canadian soapstone carvings. Family members said Lomprey's life also was filled with a faith in God, meaningful purpose, generosity and a great love for family and friends.
She is survived by a large, extended family, including three sisters: Edith Kanoff of Davis, Margaret Moruza of Berkeley and Mary Bush of Chico.
LONG
Charles Lonnie Long
Charles Lonnie Long of Davis died June 24, 2003. He was 57.
Born in Logansport, Ind., on Aug. 23, 1945, he moved to Yolo County eight years ago. He worked as a dishwasher at Little Prague restaurant and as a jack-of-all-trades for the Davis Community Meals homeless shelter.
He is survived by a number of close friends in Davis.
A memorial service will be held Monday, July 21, at 11:30 a.m. at Davis Community Meals shelter, 1111 H St.
