Beloved wife of Maurice O’Callaghan and dearest daughter of Rose (Manley).
Predeceased by her father, Mike DiPenta 1993.
Dear sister of Michael DiPenta and Carmen Morand, Dartmouth, N.S. Loving aunt of Mylene and Serge. Beloved step-mother to Suzanne O’Callaghan and Nana to Connor, both of P.E.I. Treasured godmother to Peter Synishin, Ottawa and Lauren Butler, Sydney, N.S. Cheryl is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends from her parish family at St. Martin De Porres Church in Windsor. Special thanks to some very special friends, Colin, Chicago, Linda, Toronto, Karen, Boston, Mary, London, and Susan, Debbie and Maxx, all of Windsor.
Cheryl retired from Bell Canada in 1992 as AVP Public Affairs after 23 years of service.
Friends may call at the Janisse Brothers Funeral Home, 1139 Ouellette Ave., Windsor, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Cheryl will rest at St. Martin De Porres Church, 1808 Labelle St., Windsor from 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27 until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Should you wish to send expressions of sympathy, Cheryl preferred donations to children’s or environmental charities or to St. Martin De Porres Church.
Donald A. (Don) Hatt
80, Redding, Calif
Donald A. (Don) Hatt, 80, of Redding, Calif., passed away Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in California.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Agusta Hatt, Westmount. Don was employed at Sydney Steel Corp. and Halifax Dock Yard before moving to Burbank, Calif. where he as employed with MGM Studios.
He is survived by his wife, the former Audrey Murphy, two sons, Blair, Florida and Wayne, Winnipeg; a daughter, Debbie, Redding, Calif. and one grandchild. He is also survived by a sister, Alice Fennell, Halifax.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Hatt and Gertrude Lloyd.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Abby Lanteigne
58, Sydney
Abdon Lanteigne, 58, of 41 Cameron Estates, Sydney formerly of Caraquet, N.B., died Tuesday, March 23, 1999, at his residence.
Born in Bas Caraquet, N.B., he was the son of the late Henri and Louise (Blanchard) Lanteigne. He was a member of St. Pierre Au Lieu Parish, Caraquet. He had been employed as a pipe fitter for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Plumbers, Pipefitters and Sprinkler Union Local 512, Bathurst, N.B. Abby was an avid outdoorsman.
Surviving are his fiancée, Lois Reid; one sister, Mrs. Rhea Theriault, Halifax; an aunt, Christina Blanchard, Caraquet and two nephews, Donald (Audrey) Bowen, Shearwater and Joel Bowen, D’Escousse.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ephrem and his stepfather, Leo.
There will be no visitation for the late Mr. Lanteigne. Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 28, 1999, at a time to be announced in St. Pierre Au Lieu Church, Caraquet. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery. Arrangements in Sydney, are entrusted to T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel.
Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice.
Daniel Vincent McDonald
80, New Waterford
Daniel Vincent McDonald, 80, New Waterford Hospital, Level II Care, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Alex S. and Isabel (Cameron) McDonald. Mr. McDonald was a member of Mount Carmel parish. He was active in community affairs. For many years, he was a town councillor and also served as deputy mayor. He was a member of the New Waterford Fire Department, the New Waterford hospital board and the school board. He was a member of the New Waterford Legion and Army and Navy. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas and was a member of the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders. Mr. McDonald worked in the coal mines and at one time, with the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes in New Waterford and Glace Bay. He was also employed as a stationary engineer in the New Waterford Hospital and later the Sydney Airport.
Surviving are four daughters, Donna (Mrs. Francis MacArthur), Sheila (Mrs. Joey MacNeil), Rhona (Mrs. Winston Burke), all of New Waterford and Mary Schrage, Sydney; three sons, Dan (Bernice), Bryan (Cheryl), both of New Waterford and Earl (Ann), Moncton, N.B.; two sisters, Annie, Boston, Jenny Miller, Scotchtown; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Sadie M. MacIntyre, son, Raymond and daughter Cynthia, three brothers, John A., Alexander and Earl and a sister, Katie Mae Longphee.
At the late Mr. McDonald’s request, there will be no visitation. Funeral will be held in Mount Carmel Church, Friday 10 a.m. with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.

Norman Mugford
68, Cambridge, Ont.
Norman Mugford, 68, passed away with his family at his side, on Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Emma Jane (Rumbold) Mugford.
Beloved husband of wife, Betty, of 48 years. Dear father of sons, Donald and Michael, Cambridge, Ont. Loved and admired by his grandchildren and great-grandson, Norman. He is also survived by a brother, Jim (Rose) Mugford, Guelph, Ont.; sisters, Sadie Trenchard and June Byrne, both of Glace Bay, Nellie McLean, Guelph, Ont. and Anna (George) Mitchell, Oshawa, Ont. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Betty Ann, a son, Jimmy and a number of brothers and sisters.
His remains rested at Nelson’s Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge, Ont. A memorial service under the auspices of IOOF Lodge, 321 Hespeler was held at the funeral home. Funeral service was held at St. Luke’s United Church, Tuesday, March 2, 1999. Sisters, Sadie Trenchard and June Byrne have returned home from Ontario where they attended the funeral of their brother.
Michael Wuest
36, Murphysboro, Ill.
Michael Wuest, 36, passed away suddenly Friday, March 19, 1999, in Murphysboro, Ill., as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
He is survived and will be sadly missed by his parents, William and Ann (MacKeigan) Wuest, of Murphysboro, Ill.; brothers, Joseph, Frank and John and sister, Catherine; maternal grandmother, Catherine MacKeigan, North Sydney (formerly of Florence).
He was predeceased by one brother, Daryl.
The funeral was held in Murphysboro, March 22, 1999.
Evelyn Marie Boudreau
94, Sydney
Evelyn Marie Boudreau, 94, of The Cove Guest Home, formerly of Poulamond, Richmond County, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born at Poulamond, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Alexina (Fougere) Boudreau. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney. She had resided for 10 years at 312 Esplanade before becoming a resident of The Cove.
She is survived by three daughters, Betty (Mrs. Michael Kennedy), Sylvia (Mrs. Bobby Leyte), both of Sydney, Mrs. Phyllis Lind, Westmount; one brother, Frederick Joseph, Dartmouth; two sisters, Mrs. Maria Langlois, Halifax, Mrs. Lena MacDonald, Sydney; one brother, Simon, Waterville, N.S.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Frederick in 1973, four brothers, Alcide, Clifford, Leo, Tony and a sister, Dolena Landry.
The late Mrs. Boudreau will be in the T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. A. O’Connor officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Lorraine May (Spence) MacCuish passed away suddenly Thursday, March 25, 1999, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of Mrs. Mabel (MacIntyre) Spence of Sydney and the late Arthur Spence. She was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her husband, Michael Jr.; two daughters, Laura Lee (Mrs. Phylip Tobin), Sydney and Cherie MacCuish, at home; five grandchildren, Phylip Jr., Tyler, Jordan, Brandon and Carissa; three sisters, Gail MacEachern, Mira, Barbara Anderson and Joan MacLean, both of Sydney; two brothers, Darryl and William, both of Sydney and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Douglas in infancy.
The late Mrs. MacCuish will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Saturday and Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment will be in the parish Cemetery, East Bay. Donations may be made to St. Mary’s Parish Fund or a charity of choice.
Mary Josephine (Marie) MacKinnon
Darmouth
Mary Josephine (Marie) MacKinnon, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 25, 1999, at the Dartmouth General Hospital.
She was born in Reserve Mines, Cape Breton Island, Dec. 24, 1937. Mary was actively involved with her church, Immaculate Conception, Woodside. An active volunteer with Special Olympics skating, Oakwood Seniors Centre, active member of the Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club which included involvement with Junior Development and a one time member of Hartlen Point Golf Course, all of which brought her great pleasure. Her special hobbies included woodworking, hand painting and involvement in these workshops at Alderney Manor in Dartmouth.
She is survived by husband, James Robert (Bob); children, Mark, Angela, Christopher, Paul and eight grandchildren; brothers, Patrick and Michael.
She was predeceased by her mother, Sarah, father, Wilfred and sister, Wynnifred MacIntyre.
No visitation by request. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday in Immaculate Conception Parish, Woodside, with the Rev. David Poirier officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Arrangements entrusted to Dignity Cremation Services.
Donald MacLeod
Amherst
Donald John MacLeod, 86, of Centennial Villa, Amherst and formerly of Louisbourg, passed away Thursday, March 25, 1999 at the Highland View Regional Hospital, Amherst.
Born in Louisbourg, he was the son of the late John and Kate (Paige) MacLeod. He worked for the S&L Railway and Devco before retiring in 1969.
He is survived by his wife, the former Annie Pope, Louisbourg; a son, Dr. Barry MacLeod (wife Wendy), Amherst; granddaughters, Kelly, Deanne (Mrs. Mark Forward), both of Halifax; a grandson, Jason, Halifax; sisters, Chris (Mrs. Lloyd Townsend), Normena (Mrs. Mons Shelley), both of Middleton; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son, Lorne, brothers, Neil and Dan.
His remains have been cremated. The family will receive visitors at First United Church, Louisbourg, Saturday from 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the church 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Rev. Clayton Austin officiating. Burial will take place in the Willow Grove Cemetery, Louisbourg.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made at Furlong’s Funeral Home, Amherst, to a charity of one’s choice.

Lily Rowe, 82, of 14 Egan Ave., Sydney, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at home.
Born in Hants Harbour, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late William and Louise (Soper) Head. She was a member of St. Alban’s Church, Sydney.
She is survived by two daughters, Louise McNair, Niagara, Ont. and Debbie Sheppard, South Bar; two sons, Donald, Chatham, N.B. and William, Omemee, Ont.; brothers, Henry and John, New Waterford; two sisters, Maude Dobson, Sydney and Edie Hann, Toronto; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Hubert, son, Kenneth, sister, Blanche and three brothers, Ralph, Dan and Art.
Visitation will be in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Doug Chard officiating. Burial will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Margaret Beatrice Whitty
80, Sydney
Margaret Beatrice Whitty, 80, a longtime resident of 1 Douglas St., Sydney, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Wadden) Carroll. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Sydney and the CWL. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America having worked more than 40 years with Maritime Tel and Tel Traffic.
She is survived by one daughter, Marion Elizabeth (Mrs. Ray MacMillan), Ottawa; two sisters, Mrs. Eileen Melski, Sydney and Loretta (Mrs. Gerald Lund), Grand Mira; two brothers, Ralph (Yvonne) Carroll, Comox, B.C. and Gerald (Carmella) Carroll, Sydney; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, James C. in 1973 and a sister, Betty.
The late Mrs. Whitty will have visitation at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in Sacred Heart Church with Rev. A. O’Connor officiating. Kathleen Veronica (Kaye) Young
78, Halifax
Kathleen Veronica (Kaye) Young, 78, Halifax, formerly of Georges River, Cape Breton County, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII.
Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Grant and Violet (Aulenback) McGrath.
Surviving are her beloved husband, William (Henry) Young and sisters, Audrey Allen, Dartmouth, Barbara Ranger, Halifax, Joan Ruggles and Carol Benard, both of Dartmouth.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Cameron, her brother, Earl (Dick), sisters, Beryl Covey and Janet Tindell.
