Catherine (Katie) Boch
95, Glace Bay
Catherine (Katie) Boch, 95, Glace Bay of 150 MacIntyre Lane, Glace Bay, died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at home.
Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of Dan P. and Jessie MacIntyre. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish and the Catholic Women’s League. Katie belonged to a number of social clubs over the years: and was an avid card player.
She is survived by one daughter, Judy Boozan, at home and an adopted sister, Claire Foreman, Sarnia, Ont. She is also survived by a number of cousins.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, John Boch and one brother, Peter.
Visitation at Curry’s Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay, Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church with Rev. James Oliver officiating.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Donations in Katie’s memory may be made to the charity of choice.

Andrew Pringle Boutilier
89, Goderich, Ont.
Andrew Pringle Boutilier, 89, died Friday, March 5, 1999, in hospital in Goderich, Ont. He would have been 90 on Sunday, March 7.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Thomas P.A. and Isobel (MacLean) Boutilier, formerly of 226 Whitney Ave. He graduated from Sydney Academy, Acadia University and Nova Scotia Technical College (1938).
During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Engineers in Canada and Europe (1939-46). He worked in Montreal and Amherst, N.S., prior to settling in Goderich with Sifto Salt Company.
He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Pue-Gilchrist; daughters, Patricia (Graham) Baker, Toronto, Barbara (Frank) Carere, Waterloo, Ont.; son, Robert (Hilary), Toronto; there are several grandchildren as well.
Also surviving are one sister, Dorothy (Ross), Dartmouth, N.S.; brothers, Clifford and Lloyd, Sydney.
He was predeceased by sisters, Helen (Murchison/Crooks), Sydney; Christine (Maffucci), Katonah, New York; brothers, Frederick, Sidney, B.C. and Edwin, Sydney, N.S.
Cremation will take place, a service was held Monday, March 8, in Goderich, Ont.

Marietta E. McConnell
88, England
Marietta (Maretta) E. McConnell, 88, of Lapford, Devon, England formerly of Skyeway Drive, Westmount and Green Hill Drive, Sydney River, passed away Monday, March 1, 1999, in Devon, England.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Edwardine (Renaud) Dornadic.
She was a member of Sydney River United Church. Prior to retirement she was employed with Woolworths and Woolco. She was a past member of Riverdale Seniors Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Irene (Finlayson) Mrs. Robert Mertens, with whom she resided in England; and 14 nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harold, three brothers, Arsene, Charles and Rene (Rannie), three sisters, Edwardine Oursien, Mary Martin and Margaret Walters.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held in Sydney Memorial Chapel, Friday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Allan McIntosh officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Jean Lacelle McGillicuddy
Saint John, N.B.
The death of Jean Lacelle McGillicuddy, wife of the late Joseph McGillicuddy of 58 Hazen St., Saint John, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 7, 1999.
Jean was the daughter of the late Gus and Mary (Robertson) York of North Sydney, N.S.
She is survived by five sons, Robert and his wife Angie Lacelle, Quispamsis, Lindsay, Steven, Michael and Sean, all of Saint John; two daughters, Gail and her husband, Terry (Lacelle) Miller and Jo Anne McGillicuddy (Kelter), both of Saint John; one brother, Roderick and his wife Wanda York, North Sydney, N.S.; four sisters, Rhoda and her husband, George Donovan, Barbra and her husband, Alec Nicholson, Jerri York, Betty and her husband Nip Hillary, all of North Sydney, N.S.; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by two sons, Ricky and Paul, one daughter, Mary and one sister, Edna Voutier.
Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, (634-7424) with visiting Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday at 12 noon from Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 360 Dufferin Row, West Saint John. Interment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery following the service. Remembrance can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association and St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation or a charity of donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Ross Rubin Morrison
81, St. Peter’s
Ross Rubin Morrison, 81, of St. Peter’s died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in St. Peter’s, he was the son of the late Archibald and Jessie (Ross) Morrison. He worked with CNR in Sydney for 34 years. He was a member of St. Peter’s United Church.
He is survived by his wife, the former Laura Stone, Lynch’s River and three sisters, Jean MacNeil, Lower Sackville, Donna Vernon, Massachusetts and Anne Martin, The Points, West Bay.
He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews, John, Richard, Anne, Joan, James, Carole, Paul, Lorraine, Wilma, Archie, Stephen, Wayne, Bruce, Andrea, Sandra, Carole, Arlene, Sheila, Melanie, Jayne, and Anne and several grandnieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one sister, Laura Olah and one brother, Harry.
The body has been cremated. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter’s United Church with Rev. Keith Adams officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Lakeview Cemetery, St. Peter’s. Donations may be made to Palliative Care of Strait Richmond Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Alex A. Morrison Funeral Home, St. Peter’s.

John Donaldson Robinson
57, St. Catharines, Ont.
John D. Robinson, 57, of St. Catharines, Ont., died Saturday, March 6, 1999, at St. Catharines General Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Jeanette Robinson and the late Alfred Robinson.
John is survived by four daughters, Irma Morgan, Anita Budden, Sandra McDougall and Susan Robinson, son, John Robinson, four granddaughters and three grandsons, all of Glace Bay; four sisters, Alliene (Allie) MacDougall, Joan Robinson, Loretta Robinson, all of Glace Bay and Irma Robinson, St. Catharines, Ont.; and a brother, Tony Robinson, Toronto, Ont.
He was predeceased by brothers, Bill and Hector Robinson and sisters, Marion Ransome, Joan and Mary.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Eric Lynk officiating.

Chester Joseph (Chess) Webb
56, River Ryan
Chester Joseph (Chess) Webb, retired colonel RCAF, 56, of 2 Ratchford St., River Ryan, passed away peacefully Monday, March 8, 1999, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the eldest son of Theresa (Gaulton) Webb, New Waterford and the late Chester, Sr. Webb. Chess “Gump” was known in his youth as an excellent athlete. Upon graduating from St. Agnes and Central High School, he attended St. Francis Xavier University, through the RCAF and immediately upon graduation was commissioned as an Air Force pilot officer. After retiring from the military, he was employed with Transport Canada, retiring in 1990.
Surviving are his wife, Florence (Quinn) Locke-Webb; one son, Kevin, Antigonish; three stepchildren, Michael, Gerald and Jennifer and four step-grandchildren.
Chess is also survived by brothers, Gordie, New Waterford and Ronnie, Petawawa, Ont.; and sisters, Celina (Minnie) Gottwald, Donna Durdle and Lucy Bailey, all of New Waterford.
Visitation will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Tuesday 7-9 p.m. Funeral will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan. Burial in the parish Cemetery. Donations to the Hospice/Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton.

Theresa (nee MacNeil) Woods
85, Summerside, P.E.I.
Theresa (nee MacNeil) Woods, passed away peacefully in Summerside, P.E.I., Sunday, March 7, 1999, at the age of 85.
Beloved wife of the late Thomas Joseph Woods (1974). Loving mother of Thomas, Robert, Lorraine, Edwin, Rita, Ron, Roland, Patrick and their spouses. Theresa will be missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

William (Bill) G. Davis
63, Kitchener, Ont.
William (Bill) G. Davis, 63, of Kitchener, Ont., died peacefully at St. Mary’s General Hospital on Friday, April 2, 1999.
Born in Sydney, N.S., he was the son of the late Henry and Veronica Davis. An employee of J. M. Schneider Inc. for 38 years, he retired in 1997.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Jean (nee Farrell), sons, Bill Jr. and Tim and his wife Rose Marie, all of Kitchener. He will not be forgotten by his granddaughters, Kristy and Calista. Survived by his brother, Patrick and his wife Betty, sisters, Mary Aucoin and Lena Campbell all of Sydney, N.S.
Predeceased by brothers, Francis and Cyril, sisters, Marie, Margaret and Bette, niece, Elaine, nephew, Wally and grandnephew, Dustin.
The family invited relatives and friends to the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home and Chapel, 51 Benton at Church St., Kitchener, (519) 742-4481 for visitation on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil prayers Monday at 8:45 p.m. Funeral service was held in the funeral home chapel Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at 1 p.m.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or St. Mary’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.

Caroline Louise Depret
New Waterford/Hampton, N.B.
Caroline Louise Depret, 87, Hampton, N.B., formerly of 534 St. Joseph’s St., New Waterford, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 9, 1999, in St. John Hospital, St. John, N.B.
Born in Stellerton, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elodie (Lambert) Vanderbrook. She was a member of Mount Carmel Parish.
Surviving are daughters, Odile (Mrs. James Pearson), Julie Hefferman, both of New Waterford; Patricia (Mrs. Joseph MacIsaac), Hampton, N.B., with whom she resided; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Julian and a daughter in infancy, two sisters, Mary and Emmerance and a brother Henry.
Visitation is in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Homes, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Monday 2 p.m. in Mount Carmel Church, Father Donald MacGillivray officiating. Burial in the parish Cemetery.

Hector Joseph MacNeil
87, Sydney
Hector Joseph MacNeil, 87, of Breton Bay Nursing Home formerly of Portage, died Friday, April 9, 1999, at the residence.
Born at Castle Bay, he was the son of the late Michael D. and Sarah (MacNeil) MacNeil. He was a member of St. Mary’s Parish, East Bay. He was employed as a steelworker at Sysco for over 30 years, retiring in 1975, working in the pipe shop.
He is survived by daughters, Margaret (Doug) Pickup and Eileen (David) Izzard, both of Lower Sackville, N.S.; sons, Michael (Janice), Bras d’Or, Hector J. Jr. (Giselle Belliveau), Sydney River, Donald (Danita) Frenchvale, with whom he resided for a number of years before moving to Breton Bay. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Devison, a sister Jessie and a brother Donald.
The late Mr. MacNeil will have visitation Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary’s Church, East Bay with the Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish Cemetery.

Mary Florence (Penney) McCourt
Cobourg, Ont.
Mary Florence (Penney) McCourt passed away at the Northumberland Health Care Centre, Cobourg, on Thursday, April 8, 1999, in her 83rd year.
Mary McCourt, wife of the late Reg McCourt. Dear sister-in-law of Joan Penney, Cobourg. Sister of the late Joe, Eddie, Bernie and Annie. Mrs. McCourt will be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Chapel of St. Michael’s Church, Division Street, Cobourg, on Saturday, April 10 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., East, Cobourg, on Friday evening from 7-9 p.m. Parish prayers Friday at 8 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial donations by cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society.

John (Jack) W. White
64, Florence
John (Jack) William White, 64, a resident of Park Road, Florence died Friday, April 9, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late Garfield and Edna (Gillard) White. Jack served with the Canadian Armed Forces in his earlier years. He was employed as a bartender at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 19, North Sydney for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 19 and a member of the Father William Kiely Council Knights of Columbus No. 5109. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church, Florence.
He is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth (Lee) Edwards; three brothers, Frank (Carolyn), Florence, Jimmy and Eddie, both of Sydney; five sisters, Cleo (Mrs. John MacLeod), Bras d’Or, Mary White, Sydney, Cecilia (Mrs. Joe Parsons), Mira, Kathie White, Sydney and Gloria Appleby, Brampton, Ont.
Predeceased by his parents, one sister, Patsy, one brother, Melvin.
Visitation will be held Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Homes, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass will be held Monday 10 a.m. from St. Stephen’s Church, Florence with the Rev. A.D. Campbell and the Rev. Conrad Edwards officiating. Burial will be held in St. Stephen’s Parish Cemetery, Florence.
Donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
