passed away with his family by his side, at the Groves Memorial Community Hospital, Fergus on Thursday, September 9, 2004. Clayton Schneider at the age of 68 years. Beloved husband of Shirley (Clayton) Schneider. Dear father of Debbie (Gerry), Douglas, both of Guelph and John (Deanna) of Fergus. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Jason Hewitson (Karen), Crystal Hewitson, Jessica Hanna and his great grandchildren Alissa, Braiden, and Chloe. Brother of Teresa Foxton of Wingham, Dorothy MacKinnon and Mary Anderson, both of Teeswater and Ted Schneider (Ruth) of Coe Hill. Dear son-in-law of Dorothy Clayton of Guelph. Long time and dear friend of Bob Halliburton. Predeceased by his sons, Donald (1979) and David (1961); his father-in-law, Alfred Clayton; mother and father, Mary and Otto Wissler; sister, Lavern Embro and brother, Leonard Wissler. Clayton was a retired employee with the City of Guelph Parks and Recreation Department where he worked from 1967 to 1994. At the Guelph General Hospital on Friday, September 10, 2004. Maria (Kiryluk) Nelson at the age of 68 years. Beloved wife of Robert Nelson of RR#2 Acton. Loving mother of Jackie Robinson and her husband Tom of Guelph. Loved baba of Sean, Chad and Taylor. Predeceased by her parents John and Justina Kiryluk. Maria was a retired 40 year employee of Imperial Tobacco. Family services were held at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph. Edward Tarrington
TARRINGTON, Edward (Ted) - (1910-2004). Crossed the Bar. It is with great sadness that the family of Edward Tarrington announces his passing September 11, 2004, at Guelph General Hospital. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 73 years, Dorothy Glover Tarrington. His children, Joyce Morton and partner Cesare Magaton, Helen First and partner Richard Gervais, Jean Tarrington, David and Cathy Tarrington. He leaves nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as a sister Lillian Watt, Guelph. Born in Port Hope, Ontario in 1910 Ted was orphaned at age six and raised with the David McBeath family in Guelph. Ted went to work on the lake boats and got a taste of the sea at a very young age. He was drawn back to the sea at the outbreak of World War II. He served as a Chief Petty Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy for four years. He was an honourary member of the Guelph Naval Veterans Association as well as an honourary member of the Chief Petty Officers Club and a member of the H.M.C.S. Sackville. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Elora Branch 229. At the end of World War II Ted returned to work as a machinist at Harding Carpets. His hobby was building model warships and the history of the Royal Canadian Navy filled his home. He was a proud old sailor and leaves his family with a sense of pride in our heritage. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the GILCHRIST CHAPEL-McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi St., Guelph on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. Visitation prior to service at 6:30 p.m. Ted's remains will be taken out to sea on a Canadian warship during the Battle of the Atlantic celebrations next May. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Guelph Salvation Army. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them. Rest in Peace dear Dad.
Betty Barendregt
at the Grand River Hospital (KWHC), Kitchener on Sunday, September 12, 2004. Betty (Kent) Barendregt at the age of 68 years. Beloved wife of Daniel Barendregt of Kitchener. Loving mother of Joan Hoffer of Elmira and Kevin Barendregt (Jeannette) of Cambridge. Devoted Oma of Aaron, Drew, Chad, Easton and Riley. Sadly missed by her sister, Barbara Kritsch (Ralph) of Orleans and her brother, Bill Kent (Laurraine) of Wheatley, Ontario. Fondly remembered by her sister-in-laws, Jenny Buis (Geurt) of Strathroy and Joanne deBlieck & Nellie Beckett, both of St. Thomas. Predeceased by her parents, William & Christina Kent. Betty was an active member of Bridgeport United Church Choir. After many years of work at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital, Betty enjoyed quilting and faithfully attended the Elmira Quilting Club. Her love for her five grandsons, as well as her devotion to her family was evident to all who knew her. Douglas Knipe
passed away at the Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, September 26, 2004. Doug Knipe in his 70th year. Beloved husband of Joan (Rogers) Knipe for almost 50 years. Loving father of Douglas A. Knipe and Catherine Knipe (Jeff McGuire), loving grandfather of Nathanial (Guelph) and Leonard (Florida). Doug was involved in a variety of activities including golf and curling and also loved to travel. He was a longstanding member of Col. John McCrae Branch 234 Royal Canadian Legion, a longtime employee of Van Water and Rogers. He also established County Solvents and Chemicals of Guelph upon his retirement.
