Shirley McMullen
McMULLEN, Shirley June – it is with great sadness that the children of Shirley McMullen announce her sudden passing on Thursday, October 20, 2005, in her 76th year. Shirley (nee Allison), loving wife of the late Fred McMullen and beloved mother of Jeffrey (Sandra) of Mississauga, Kathryn (Dan Garvey) of Newcastle, Julie-Anne (Lionel Lemire) of Calgary, Brenda (Bob Lazure), and Stuart (Kathy) both of Peterborough. Gramma will be sadly missed by Jason (deceased), Kristen, Bradley (Andrea), Laura (Steve), Stacy, Kimberly, Lisa, Jennifer, Dawn, Tamara, and Stephen. Predeceased by her parents Edwin and Doris Allison. Proud member of Grace United Church and fondly remembered by the ladies of the Seniors Aqua Blast. Donations in Shirley’s memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be greatly appreciated by the family and may be made through NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 1-877-987-3964, with whom arrangements have been entrusted.

Roy Louis Hutchison
HUTCHISON, Roy Louis (retired 42-year employee of General Electric) – peacefully in his sleep at Strathaven Life Care Centre, Bowmanville, on Sunday, October 16, 2005, in his 86th year. Devoted husband for 65 years to Trudy (nee Wadsworth) of Peterborough. Survived by his children Robert Hutchison of Peterborough and Lyn and her husband Bill Small of Newcastle, and predeceased by his son Lloyd Hutchison. Also survived by daughter-in-law Dianne Hutchison. Brother of Gaius Hutchison, Dorothy Cobb, Fern Drake, and Steve Hutchison. Grandfather of David, Grant, and Jeanette Hutchison, Robert, Dale, and Lisa Hutchison, Brayden and Brook Akers, and six great-grandchildren. Donations in Roy’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated by his family.

William "Bill" Baron
BARON, William “Bill” (37 year employee of Northern Telecom and Resident of Wilmot Creek since 1987) - peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Thursday, October 6, 2005 in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Margaret of 27 years. Dear father of Linda and her husband Scott Harrison of Vancouver and John Baron and his wife Sylvie Charette of Montreal. Loving Grandpa of Cristopher and Charles. Caring brother of Margaret Pugsley of Bowmanville and George Baron of Fort Myers, Florida. Bill will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his extended family and friends. Memorial donations to the Diabetes Association would be appreciated by his family and can be made through NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME with whom arrangements have been entrusted.

R. Douglas McCurdy
McCURDY, R. Douglas (retired after 20 years as a Newcastle Volunteer Firefighter; member of Durham Masonic Lodge #66 A.F. & A.M.; career employee of Allied Systems, formerly M.C.L.) – suddenly in the Village of Newcastle on Sunday, October 2, 2005, in his 54th year. Doug will be sadly missed by his wife Dian (Buttercup); his children Carrie, and Dougie and his wife Claire; his mother Gwen and mother-in-law Muriel Cowie; his sister Ruthanne Hartin (Mike), his brothers Charlie (Kim), Ted (Linda), and Ray (Leigh Ann); and brother in law Peter Cowie (Sue). Also missed by his beloved dog Sam, many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends. Doug had a love of hunting, fishing, horseshoes, Molson Golden, firefighting, family, and friends. Donations in Doug’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society would be greatly appreciated by his family.

Dear brother of Charlie Kinghorn of Fergus and the late Chester Kinghorn, Alice Shier, and Edith Kellar. Survived by nieces and nephews. Arrangement entrusted to NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME.
Funeral Details: At Maurice’s request, cremation will take place with no funeral service.

John (Johannes) Bonsma
BONSMA, John (Johannes) – January 28, 1927 – September 12, 2005. After a long battle with cancer, the Lord has called John Bonsma home. Survived by his loving wife and best friend of 55 years “Willie” Wilhelmina Johanna (DeVries). His loving presence will be greatly missed by his children and grandchildren: Rein Bonsma (Colin, Erin), Jon Bonsma and Rita (Jeff, Michelle, Jeremy, and their mother Marilyn), Eric Bonsma and Deb Bonsma (Mandy and Bruce Shangraw, April and Aaron, Andrea and Kaine), “Maggie” Agnes and Doug Tighe (Patrick and Shannon, Michael), Lucy Eeuwes and Paul Eeuwes (Henry, Luke, Rachel), and Leona Kristensen and Eric Kristensen (David, Spenser). He leaves behind brothers and sisters in both Canada and the Netherlands. Donations in John’s memory to Gate 316 Outreach Centre, Oshawa, would be greatly appreciated by the family. Many thanks for the wonderful care provided by Dr. Kassirer, St. Elizabeth Nurses, and Homecare which enabled John to spend his final days at home. Also, thank you to friends whose calls, cards, and prayers were a comfort to John and Willie over the last months.
