Rita Marie Brandon
BRANDON, Rita Marie (nee Shea) – peacefully at home in her 57th year, after a short battle with cancer, Rita left us with her family by her side. Dearly loved wife of Bob. Loving mother of Annette (Jeff) Hanton, Christine Dunning, Rob and Natalie Brandon. Lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Aaron, Laurie, David, Nadine and Christopher. Rita will be sadly missed by her mother Rita Shea and her brothers Mike (Carol) and Albert (Debbie) Shea, her in-laws, Linda (Kim) Carr and Jean (Pat) Kehoe, and by all of her nieces and nephews. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Funeral Details: Honouring Rita’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering celebrating Rita’s life will be held on Sunday, May 22, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights).

Ruby Irene Warburton
WARBURTON, Ruby Irene (nee Cowan) – (life-long member of the U.C.W., Faith United Church, Courtice, and then Newcastle United Church; member of the Wednesday Morning Quilting Group of St. George’s Anglican Church, and the Newcastle Village and District Historical Society) – peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 17, 2005, in her 91st year. Predeceased by her husband William Edward (Eddie) Warburton, parents Alonzo and Melissa Cowan, brother Charles Cowan and his wife Viola, sister Bertha Daniel and her husband Col, and grandson Richard McQuaid. She is survived by her daughter Mary Carolyne Curl (Gord) of Guelph, and sons William (Kenza) of Whitby, Robert (Betty) of Lindsay, and Stephen (Linda) of Frankford. She is also survived by her nephew Neil Daniel of Oshawa, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren. Donations in Ruby’s memory to Faith United Church in Courtice, Newcastle United Church, or St. George’s Anglican Church in Newcastle would be appreciated by her family. Funeral Details: Following cremation, friends may call at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights) on Friday, May 20, from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday, May 21, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Interment Bond Head Cemetery.

QUINLAN, Andrew (Andy) – (long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #43 Oshawa; retired 45 year employee of McNamara Marine) – at his home in Newcastle on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, in his 74th year. Dear father of Andrew Jr., Greg and his wife Pam, and Steve. Grandfather of Jeffrey and Shaun. Brother of Horton, Roy, and the late Mick. HAY, Elbert Grayson (Bud) – (retired 25-year employee of Shell Canada) – suddenly at the Toronto General Hospital, with his family at his side, on Monday, May 9, 2005, in his 87th year. Bud, loving husband for 65 years of Jean of Newcastle. Dear father of Donald Grayson Hay and his wife Donna of Oakville and William Richard Hay and his wife Cheryl-Ann of Roseneath. Loving and cherished wife of Doug. Dear mother of Lucretia and her husband John Ryder of Alberta, Jack and his wife Karen of Courtice, and Angela of Oshawa. Caring Grandma of Cain, Logan and Samantha Ryder, and James Krissa and Marshall Johnson. ARMSTRONG, James Alvin “Al” (long-time employee of the Toronto Telegram) – suddenly and peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Hospital Drive Site, in his 76th year. Al was the devoted and loving husband of 52 years to Diane; cherished father of Sharon Wright (George) of Kingston and Marg Malloy (Tom) of Peterborough. As Al often said, he was the proud grandfather of six grandsons, and they’re all boys! – Terry, Edward, Ryan, Brock, Jordan, and Chandler. Predeceased by parents Delbert and Helen Armstrong and sister Letta Cummings (Ted).
