MARTELL, Shirley Iris (former resident of Newtonville) – suddenly at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Friday, March 11, 2005, in her 81st year. Loving wife of the late Joseph Martell. Dear mother of Lynda Willsher of Newcastle and her late husband Robert (Bob), John Martell and his wife Susan of Vancouver, and Glenn Martell and his wife Kim Legue of Vancouver. Sadly missed by grandchildren Stephen, Chris and his wife Sonya, Ian, and great-grandson Noah. Survived by her sister Myrna Henry and her husband Wil, niece Sandra and nephew David and their families, and the rest of the Martell family. Shirley will also be missed by her many friends at Parkview. Donations in Shirley’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

BALL, Frederick “Harold” – passed away on Monday, March 7, 2005, at the age of 96. Predeceased by his wife Lorraine. Dad/Grandpa will be greatly missed by his son and best bud, Ken, his daughter-in-law Micheline, and his special grandsons Kenny and Bob. He also leaves behind his daughter Jacqueline (Jim) and three grandchildren. Best friend and fishing buddy of Ken Platt for over 65 years. A special “thank-you” to all the staff at Strathaven Retirement for making “home” such a special place for Dad. Loving mother of Linda (John) Morgan, Gary (Debbie), Donna (Nick) Valente, Pam (Marzy) Anania, and Glenn (Janet). Irene will be sadly missed by her 13 grandchildren and her great-granddaughter. Survived by her sister Doreen (George) Mason and brother Owen (Marlene) Hall. Predeceased by her brother Claire Hall. Irene was a member of the Monday Morning 5-Pin Bowling Club, Liberty Bowl, and was a 20-year resident of Wilmot Creek. Mother of Jocelyn, Gerard and Joanna, ''Nana-Banana''to Ben, Nicky and Kayleigh, Penny was affectionately known as ''Blinkers'' to her many many friends. Penny was a warm and extremely friendly woman who touched many lives. Famous for her notorious ''Blink laugh'', Penny enjoyed laughing and making others laugh. She will be greatly missed. The family is extremely grateful to the staff in the Critical Care Unit at North York General Hospital. They showed impressive ability and outstanding compassion to the family over the last few weeks.
