TROOP, Sandra Beverley – (resident of Wilmot Creek since 1988; retired secretary with the Durham Board of Education) – suddenly at her residence on Wednesday, February 2, 2005, in her 67th year. Devoted wife of Donald for 47 years. Loving mother of Scott and his wife Kathie of Courtice, and Terry of Wilmot Creek. Dear grandma of Zackary, Mitchell, Tyler, and Alexandra. Sandra will be sadly missed by her extended family and friends. Donations in Sandra’s memory to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation would be greatly appreciated by her family.
Funeral Details: Friends may call at the NEWCASTLE FUNERAL HOME, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights) on Friday, Feb. 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 1:00 p.m. Cremation.

Eleanor Gordon
GORDON, Anna “Eleanor” (nee Walton-Ball) – (long-time member of The Presbyterian Church in Canada) – peacefully at Strathaven Lifecare Centre, Bowmanville, on Friday, January 28, 2005, in her 91st year. Eleanor, beloved wife of the late Reverend Robert Russell Gordon. Loving mother of the Reverend Noel Gordon and his wife Dorcas of Newcastle, Anne Strasburger and her husband Erich of Bedford, Texas, and Mary Gordon and her husband George West of Cortez Island, B.C. Dear grandmother of Mark, Sarah, Tim, Christine, Aaron, and James. Predeceased by her brothers Horace and Eric. Remembered by nieces Nancy, Gloria, and Mary-Lou, nephew David, and sister-in-law Patsy. Brenda Vallis
VALLIS, Brenda Nancy Victoria (Keene, Ont.) – passed away on Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit of Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Roger St. Site, with her husband at her side, at the age of 64 following a lengthy illness. Born in Ecum Secum, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Pye) Ashton. She lost her hearing at the age of 18 months due to an illness. In her younger years she attended the School for the Deaf in Halifax. Following graduation she moved to Toronto and worked at Canada Post for 30 years. After retirement she moved to Keene, Ontario, with her husband Benjamin (Ben), who was formerly from Sydney, Cape Breton. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, her sisters Phyllis Morris, Janet Rudolph, her brother Ronald (Corinne) Ashton, all of Ecum Secum, N.S., and her brother Robert T. Ashton and sister-in-law Jennie Ashton of Halifax. Also missed by a number of nieces and nephews, and long-time best friend Lorraine MacDonald of Halifax. She was predeceased by her brother Stanley Ashton of Halifax and sister Maxine Matthews of Victoria, B.C. Brother of Daniel and the late William. Sadly missed by many relatives and friends, especially the Carruthers and Weese families.
