Peacefully, at the Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus, on February 9, 2003, at the age of 90. Predeceased by brother Elliot, of Perdue, Sk and nephew Bill of Edmonton, AB. Dear sister of Margaret of Sydney, BC, brother Charles of Deep River, ON, many nieces and nephews and many friends. The Funeral Service will be held at St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, 154 Somerset Street, Ottawa, on Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 2 p.m. arrangements in care of the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGArry. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Smith) Arengo-Jones - 02/07/2003
In hospital, Wednesday, February 5, 2003, in her 92nd year. Wife of the late Rhys Wykeham Fortune Arengo-Jones, daughter of the late Dr. Israel Goldwin Smith and the late Alice Smith (nee Pepper). Predeceased by twin brother Dr. H. Goldwin Smith and sister-in-law Margaret Smith (nee Rothwell). Fondly remembered by nephews Ian (Fran) Smith, Nicholas (Bev) Smith, and nieces Sally Smith and Joanne (Alan) Way. Missed by great-nephew Matthew (Sarah) Kurtz, and great-nieces Meegan (Jonathan) Loudon, Samantha (Brad) Henderson, Shauna (Gord) Hanna, Alex (Chris Vinella) Kurtz, Benjie Smith, Tamara Smith and Ashley Way. Was just getting to know great-great-nephews Josh Smith, Riley Hanna and Rowan Henderson, and great-great-nieces Skyler Loudon, Goldie Vinella and Madeleine Kurtz. She was a grand old lady who loved the boys and was in awe of all the young women in her life. We’ll miss her. Friends may visit at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave. at Richmond Rd. on Monday February 10th, 2003 from 1pm until service time in the chapel at 3pm. Betty would have appreciated any in memoriam donations to be sent to local Humane Societies.

Merle (nee Gauley) Birch - 02/03/2003
At the age of 74, after a lenghty illness on Sunday, February 2, 2003, Merle passed away in the hospital, surrounded with love and prayer. Beloved wife of Harold Birch, loving mother of Neil and Lorelee, much loved mother in-law of Joan and Kevin, treasured grandmother of Derek and Brandon. Beloved sister of Eunice Bigelow, Dolly Bigelow and Esther Farrell. Merle is predeceased by her parents Christina and Corl Gauley, brother George Gauley, sister Gladys noble and Margaret Brydges. She will be sadly missed by numerous brothers and sisters in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. Special thanks to Pastor Don Collar for his support, visitations and prayers. Also a special thank you to Rachelle Guindon for the care and companionship she gave to Merle over the months. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry 1200 Ogilvie Road at the Aviation Parkway on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 from 7-9pm and on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. and on Friday, February 7 from 9:30am to 10:30am. William Harlow Bowen - 02/04/2003
Peacefully at Villa Marguerite Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 4th, 2003 in his 91st year. Harlow was born in Maleb, AB on March 21st, 1912. He moved to Calgary when he was 12 and graduated from Western Canada High School. He worked for Imperial Oil Co. and in 1939 Imperial Oil decided to build a refinery at Norman Wells and Harlow, who had been the lab technician in the Imperial Oil Refinery in Calgary, was chosen to go to Norman Wells to run the lab, travelling to Norman Wells by float plane. His job was considered essential to the war effort and he was prevented from enlisting as he had planned. He was married to Adeline Stevens in October of 1940 and they had one daughter Lynne. At the end of the war, the Canoil Project was shut down and Harlow returned to Calgary and retired in 1975. Harlow was active in track and field during his high school days and later was very active in the curling and golf activities in Calgary. He was a Past President of the Inglewood Golf Club and was an honorary member of the Earl Grey Golf Club. He was a member of the Glencoe Club and excelled in curling and bowling while representing that club. He skipped his rink to the championship of the Alberta Oilmen's Bonspiel in 1953, the Alberta Senior's Curling Championship in 1963 and the Southern Alberta Senior's Bonspiel in 1977.He was captain of the Imperial Oil Golf Club Commercial League for 22 years. He had a hole-in-one five times during his golfing years. His wife died in 1979 and in the fall of 1980 he married Jo Smith (nee Flesher). They spent their winters in Phoenix, AZ and their summers in Calgary and travelled extensively to all parts of the world especially preferring to cruise. In 1997 they sold their holdings in Calgary and Phoenix and moved to Ottawa to be near family. They lived at the New Edinburgh Square and enjoyed the hospitality of the Royal Ottawa Golf Club through association with the Earl Grey Golf Club in Calgary. His wife Jo, daughter Lynne Paarup (Don) of Calgary and grandson Michael Paarup (Abi) of Australia will miss him very much. Predeceased by his grandson David Paarup (Lisa) of Edmonton. Harlow leaves 3 sisters Dorothy Bowen of Nelson BC, Vera Bisson of Vancouver BC, and Phyllis Henthorne (Bill) of Nelson BC, 6 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the wonderful, caring staff at Villa Marguerite who assisted Harlow during his time there. At Harlow's request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Inurnment at Edenbrook Cemetery Calgary. In memoriam donations to the Villa Marguerite, Ottawa ON would be appreciated by the family.
Roland (Rolly) Brabant - 01/27/2003
Suddenly, at his home on Wednesday, January 22, 2003 after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer, at the age of 72. His best friend Helmut Ensslin and close family members were by his side. Rolly is survived by sisters Betty Constantineau (Hector), Claudette Fingust (Frank), Claire Macson (Ken), Diane Coolen (Stan) and Nicole Leroux (Rick). We wish to thank the staff at the Ottawa General Hospital and especially Dr. John Seely who was so kind and compassionate during the last few weeks of Rolly's life. Also we wish to thank all the nurses from the VON who helped with Rolly's home care during his final few days and in particular Monique Coulombe-Lajoie who was there to help us when Rolly passed away. Rolly requested that there be no visitation, but he invited all his family and friends to attend his Funeral Mass to be held Friday, January 31, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Notre-Dame de Lourdes, Cyrville Church, at 1187 Michael Street, Gloucester. Reception to follow. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Rolly has requested that in lieu of flowers he would prefer donations be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON).

Peacefully at his residence on Monday, February 3, 2003 at the age of 68. Beloved father of Jeffrey (Genevieve Roy) of London, England and daughter Elizabeth (Andrew Baillie) of Ottawa. Fong, Pui Lun In hospital, on Saturday, February 8, 2003. he was predeceased by his wife Mei Yong Fong. He was a loving father to Lau Ha ( Ricky Lam ), So Ha ( Ho Ma ), Yip and Stanley. Loving grandfather of Cecilia, David, Monica and Loletta. He immigrated to Canada from China in 1956 and was joined by his family in 1965. Geraldine (nee Trowsse) Fournier - 02/12/2003
Entered into her eternal rest Monday evening, February 10, 2003 at the Gatineau Memorial Hospital, Wakefield in her 88th year. Widow of the late Edgar Fournier. Survived by her daughters Diane McGarry (Laird) and Doris Gagné (Frank) and one sister Phoebe Pierce. Will be fondly remembered by five grandchildren, Laine (Susan), Michael (Madeline), Kelly (Bernard), François (Micheline) and Adéle (Luc) as well as four great-grandchildren, Leah, Jodi, Matthew and Marie-Pier. "Gerry" will be sadly missed by her good friend Russel Blackburn. A memorial Service will be held at the McGarry Memorial Funeral Home , 139 Valley Road, Wakefield, on Thursday February 13 at 11am. Reception to follow. Spring Interment Hall's Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Gatineau Memorial Hospital, Wakefield PQ.

passed away February 5, 2003 at the Carlingview Lodge at the age of 81 years. Olga is survived by her son Andy Frank and her daughter-in-law Helen Crouch as well as her brother Alexander Ott. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest and daughter Helene.
