In Ottawa on Monday, February 10, 2003. Loving husband of Beryl (nee Bregg). Dear father to Shane (Trina), Rick (Cathy), Brian Stephen, and Cheryl Veale. Predeceased by brothers Clarence (the late Anna) and Edison (the late Shirley). Brother to Gertie (the late Stuart McCabe), Gladys Gateley, and Marjorie (the late Burns McIntyre). Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful care provided by the nurses and staff of the Ottawa General Hospital Dialysis Unit and 7 North West, as well as the members of the Victoria Order of Nurses. Family and friends will be received at Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home, 150 Woodroffe Avenue, Ottawa on Wednesday, February 12th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment at the Capital Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation will be appreciated.

Dear brother of the late Helen Paterson, Lorne of Smiths Falls and David (Lynn) of Washington, DC. Peacefully at home on Monday February 10th, 2003 at the age of 84. Beloved wife of Sue Chow "Henry". Loving mother of Leonard (Valerie), Albert (Nicole) and Susan Chan. Cherished grandmother of Alex, Jeffrey and Christopher. She will be sadly missed by her brother-in-law Robert (Susan) and their sons Stanley and David, as well as by many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Florence McKeown and John Firth, as well as her stepfather Mungo R. Thorburn. She is survived by her son John, sister Jean Winter. Ellen (nee Lynn) Kimbell - 02/07/2003
Peacefully at West end villa on Thursday, February 6, 2003 aged 93 years. Beloved wife of the late Henry P. Kimbell, Predeceased by her only son George H. Kimbell (Katherine). Grandmother of David, Peter, Krista and great-grandmother of Emily, Stephen, Hannah and Jillian.A Memorial Service will be held at West End Villa Chapel, 2179 Elmira Drive, on Saturday, February 8 at 2pm. Viola Lalonde (nee Covey) - 02/05/2003
passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2003, at the age of 76. Beloved wife of Robert Lalonde. Loving mother of Robert (Bobbe), Dianna, Karen, Ronald (Kimberly Chapman), and Daniel (Barbara). Predeceased by son Gary and daughter Shirley. Proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Friends may visit at the McGarry Memorial Chapel, 139 Valley Drive, Wakefield on Friday, February 7 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday February 8, 2003 from 11 a.m. until service time in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Martins Cemetery, Martindale, Quebec. Peacefully at the Montfort Hospital surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at the age of 83. Dearly beloved husband of Cécile Lafleur and the late Gracia Gariepy. Loving father of Jeannette Backes (the late Len), Monique Whissell (Rheal), Louise Laporte-Sabourin (Richard), Hélène Laporte (Patrice Laperrière), Ginette Cox and Robert Laporte (Linda). Also loved by his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Georges Laporte (Thérèse), Rose Barnabé (the late Oscar), Rita Mateau (the late Roger), Thérèse Thérien (the late Emmanuel), Déova (Pauline) and Hervé (Jacqueline). Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a daughter Marie-Reine, one son Léo and one brother Daniel Laporte (the late Lilliane). There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame de Lourdes (Vanier), 435 Montreal Road, Ottawa on Saturday February 15, 2003 at 10:30am As an expresaion of Sympathy, memorial contributions to the Montfort Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Sincere thanks to the staff at Rothwell Heights and to the 5th floor nurses at the Montfort Hospital for their care and compassion.

Maria Leonhardt - 02/09/2003
After a short illness, aged 65 years, Maria, widow of Henry died peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law on Friday, February 7, 2003. A devoted daughter, Maria always looked after her parents, especially her mother. A loving mother to Monica, she was always more concerned about others than herself. Maria is survived by her daughter and son-in-law (Monica and Ardavan) and her mother (Louise). She will be missed by her close friends, Jackie and Ken, Jeanne and Ken, and Zohreh and Ron. An avid traveller, she has now gone on her final journey to a better place and we wish her Godspeed. Friends and family may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Plyfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, on Monday, February 10, 2003 from 7 to 9 p.m. Service in the Chapel on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Flowers or donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Ottawa Humane Society would be appreciated.

passed away suddenly, in her daughters arms here in Ottawa, February 9th, 2003. Loving mother of Jack and Ellie Lewin of Toronto, Dr. Meir and Chanah Rivka Lewin of South Africa, Chaya and Steven Agulnik of Ottawa. Cherished Bubbie of Charmie, Faigie, Zizi, Moushkie, Levi, Sushie, Yossi, Avi, Dina and Sarah. Survived by sister Ida Levy of Montreal, brother Larry Small of Toronto. Will be fondly missed by many friends in Montreal. Funeral to be held Tuesday, February 11th at 3:00 p.m. at the new Jewish Cemetery in Osgoode. Shiva will be held at 975 Sproule St. in Ottawa. Memorial donations to Torah Academy of Ottawa or the Canadian Diabetes Association.

Beloved husband of Lois Black and best buddy of Coco and Ben. Dear brother of Maurice, Diane, Robert (Ann-Marie) and Annette. Predeceased by his sister Jeaninne (John Scarlett) and brother Roger. Dear brother-in-law of Brenda, Sheila, Sharon (Garnet), Lawrence (Carol), Russell (Shirley), Jeff (Heather), Terry (Doug) and Catherine (Brian). Loving godfather and uncle of Adam, Ryan and Cory and dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his aunt and uncles and many friends. Friends may visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) on Thursday, January 30, 2003, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service in the Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, January 31. Dear sister of Blanche Leblanc, Lucienne Morin (Paul), Raymond (Carole), the late René (Simone), Lionel (Pat), Henri, Bernadette Ringuette (Edouard), the late Louis, the late Marie-Jeanne Roy and Laurette Drouin. Dear sister-in-law of Simone Marchand, Denise Marchand, Yvonne Gilege (Harry), André Marchand (Joelle), Rita Groulx (Gérard), Raymond Marchand (Denise), Gilles Marchand, Lucien Marchand, Guy Marchand (Monique) and Célile Falardeau (the late Corbett) Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Retired professor of Canadian History at Carleton University. Respected and fondly recalled by former colleagues and students, deeply missed by family and friends. Memorial Service to be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Lupton Hall at the Perley Rideau Veterans' Health Centre, 1750 Russell Road.

Irving (Yitzhak) Miller - 01/31/2003
Senior Counsel, Industry Canada Department of Justice BCL LLB Finally at rest after a long illness, on Friday, January 31, 2003, in Ottawa, at the age of 53. His beloved wife, Janice M. Rochefort at his side. Loving father of Meghan Jenna Miller. Cherished brother of Marilyn Miller (Irving) Gimple and Fay Miller of Montreal. Only son of the late Joseph Mazer Miller and Sarah (nee Lipstein) Miller also of Montreal. Fondly remembered by Rhona Einbinder-Miller, mother of Meghan. Dear son-in-law and friend of Marie-Claire Cauchy and extended family members Trevor and Sylvie (Rochefort) Makara. Irving will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and work colleagues from across Canada and the United States. Mr. Irving Miller studied Law at McGill University in Montreal, receiving his BCL in 1974 and his LLB in 1975. He passed the Quebec Bar in 1976 and became a member of the Ontario Bar in 1978. That same year he moved to Ottawa where he held positions with FIRA (Foreign Investment Review Agency) and Excise Legal Services. As Senior Counsel in the Department of Justice, he was seconded as Coordinator to the Trade and Corporate Law Group for Industry Canada, Legal Services. In this capacity, he worked on the Agreement on Internal Trade. He also counseled with the Trade Negotiations Office on the Free Trade Agreement and NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). Most recently, The Ethics Commission was among many other Justice organizations that benefited from his expertise and good-natured presence. Irving was known to all who loved him as an avid bibliophile, an enthusiastic baseball, hockey and sports fan. He was a loving and attentive father to Meghan and an affectionate spouse to Janice. His family and many friends will sorely miss his prodigious wit and dry sense of humour. Irving was loved and admired by his work colleagues for his gentle nature. He was considered, in the words of his peers, a humourist, a moderator and “the spirit of the office.” Janice and Meghan wish to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support of the Rochefort family and Irving’s dear friends Ken Webb, Alan & Kevin Macdonald and Gilles Beaulieu. The family also wishes to express their gratitude to the caring staff of the Elizabeth Bruyere Centre and the Ottawa Hospital’s General Campus (5th floor). Special thanks to Dr. John Seely, Cathy Kustra (Social Worker) and Dr. Marie Kiar for their kindness and compassion over these many months. A service will be held at 1PM at the Jewish Memorial Chapel at 1771 Cuba Avenue on Sunday, February 2nd, 2003, followed by internment at the Jewish Community Cemetery (Bank St). After which, friends and family will gather at 116 Fairmont Avenue, in Ottawa. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a memorial contribution to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation (503 Smyth Road, Ottawa, K1H 9Z9) or a charity of their choice.

WWII 1940-1945 Served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany In hospital on Thursday, January 30, 2003, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of 54 years of Lois Nunn (nee Farmer). Survived by his sister Dorothy and her husband Doug Butterworth and nephew David Butterworth. Predeceased by sister Beatrice Cple and brother Kenneth. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street at O'Connor on Monday, February 3, from 12 noon until Service time in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Interment to follow at Beechwood Cemetery.
