Elinor Grace Welsh (nee Mowry) - 02/12/2003
July 26, 1916 - February 4, 2003. Grace died peacefully at the General Hospital. She is survived by her husband William Welsh, her brother the Reverend Father Richard Mowry, T.S.F., her children Norman (Carole), Gilbert (Patricia), Bill (Beverly), Gordon, Miriam (Carl) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her infant daughter Gwendolyn and grandson Jeffery. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Friday, February 14, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Church Of The Ascension, 253 Echo Drive on Saturday, February 15 at 2:30 p.m. Donations to the Humane Society, 101 Champagne Avenue, Ottawa K1S 4P3 would be appreciated. In Ottawa, on February 1st, 2003, in his 90th year, peacefully, after a long and full life. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 67 years, Dorothy (ne Rosenbloom); his two sons and their wives, Jonathan (Christine) and David (Brenda); his four grandchildren Stephen (Jenny), Rosalind (Matt) Lucas and Joshua, and his four great grandchildren, Theo, Archie, Amanda and Duncan. He is survived by his sister Rose Wisenthal Weiner and predeceased by his brother Hyman and his sister Florence. He is fondly remembered by many neices and nephews, friends and colleagues. He was highly respected in the many segments of his career: as a businessman, as a soldier, as an academic, as a civil servant, and as a consultant to the federal government. A funeral service will be held at The Jewish Memorial Chapel, 1771 Cuba Ave, Ottawa on Tues Feb 4 2003 at 10.00 a.m. Interment following in Montreal at Mount Royal Cemetary (Temple Emanu-El section) at 2:00 p.m. Shiva Private. passed away peacefully at her home in Ottawa, July 24, 2003. Beloved wife of the late Ernest W. Assaly. Loving mother to Linda Assaly and the late Richard E. Assaly. Grandmother to Vanessa, Nicholas, Austin, Sabrina and Bradley. She is also survived by her brother George (Edna Assaly) as well as her daughter-in-law Shirley Assaly and sister-in-law Jeanette Assaly, and many nieces and nephews. Also predeceased by her brothers Mike, Joe and sister Olga. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter and Paul Melkite Greek Catholic Church, 1161 River Road, Ottawa, on Saturday, July 26, 2003 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Cemetery. January 24, 1914 - July 19, 2003 passed away in Ottawa on Saturday at the age of 89 years. Wife of the late Edley Allen Burton. Dear mother of Peter and Martha (Daniel Catchpole). Dear sister of Annette Baldrate and sister-in-law of Raymond Paradis and Marjorie Proulx. Remembered by grandchildren David, Jeffrey and Samuel Marleau, Julian Catchpole, and nieces and nephews in Ottawa and Montreal. Also survived by Eddie Burton and Vilma Darch, family in North Carolina as well as her many friends. Predeceased by her parents, Thomas Proulx and Dorsina Bélanger; her brother, Hector and five sisters, Jeanne, Beatrice, Rita, Thérèse and Maximilienne (Mimi). Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Allard and the dedicated staff at the Elisabeth Bruyère Health Centre for their loving care and attention to Mrs. Burton. Dear brother of Marie Bywater of Birkenshaw, England. The last surviving Fellow of Dr. E.W.R. Steacie, he was formerly with the National Research Council for 35 years as Head of the Polymer Section. Peacefully on Thursday, July 24, 2003, at age 90. Husband of the late Mary Fairbairn Torrance. Beloved father of Lynn (Peter Lonstrup), Janice (Robin Porter), Michael (Nancy) and Deborah Rosenlund. Dearly loved grandpa of Elizabeth, Michael, Kyle, Richard, Kristina, Susie, David, Julia and Cameron and great-grandpa of Noah, Max, and Kennedy. He was a member of the late Royal Canadian Dragoons and served with IV Princess Louise Dragoon Guards during WWII. Before his retirement from the Carleton Board of Education in 1978 he was Head of Guidance at Merivale High School, he was also a member of Council at Manotick United Church, a Youth Education Officer and the long-time Secretary of Branch 314 Royal Canadian Legion and founder and Past-President of Rideau Seniors. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. Those wishing may make donations to a charity of their choice.

Peacefully in Ottawa on July 24, 2003 in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Suzanne. Cherished brother of Yvonne, Christiane, Antoinette, Sister Mary Joseph (Madeleine) Albert, Godelieve, Monique and his brother-in-law Jacques. He also leaves behind his adopted children, Marie-Pierre, Xavier, Jean-Francois, Dominique; his grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was born in Bruges, Belgium after an important period of twenty years in L'Abbaye de Maredsous, he emigrated to Canada in 1964. He was a teacher in Ste-Therese-de-Blainville, in Matagami, in Farnham, in Touraine (St-Alexandre College) and in Ottawa (Lycee Claudel and Ottawa University). As well as being a teacher he was an expert in UNESCO in Africa. Peacefully at the Civic Hospital, Thursday July 10th, 2003 in her eighty-ninth year. Beloved daughter of the late Honourable Justice Frederick Drummond Hogg and Elizabeth Van Dusen Hogg. Loving wife of the late J. Keith Ferguson. Dear mother of Wendy Sumner of Ottawa, John of Belleville, Fred of Palm Beach, Florida and Peter of Ottawa. Also survived by six grandchildren, Julia, Pamela and Amanda Sumner, Jeffery and Lindsay Ferguson and Samantha Ferguson and two great grandchildren Laine and Paige Murray. Lifetime resident of Ottawa and a lifetime member of the May Court Club of Ottawa and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Survived by his sister Kathleen and her husband Ron Legrove, of Parksville, B.C., and niece Rhonda and her husband Billy, and their children Jack, Kelly and Christian. Long-time friend of Greg McKiel. Bill was the Director General of the Information Technology Services Directorate of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, where he had worked for twenty- eight years. A funeral service will be held at the Church of St. Barnabus (corner of Kent and James Streets in Ottawa) on Tuesday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the church. Private burial.
