Maisie Friewalt - 11/29/2003
(nee Hensher) Peacefully on November 26, 2003 at Extendicare Medex at the age of 92 years. Maisie was predeceased by her husband Ernest and brother Archie. She will be fondly remembered by her cousins Norman (Lucy), Kathryn and Kenneth Champ. In keeping with Maisie's wishes no formal Funeral Service will be held. Interment to take place at Capital Memorial Gardens, Ottawa.
Isabelle Julia Girouard - 12/01/2003
July 16, 1907 - November 26, 2003 Peacefully at Longsfields Manor at the age of 96. Isabelle White wife of the late John Girouard and mother of the late John (Jr.) Girouard. Beloved aunt to Harriet Joncas, Sean Joncas and Donna Connolly and many other nieces and nephews. Isabelle resided in Sandy Hill (St. Joseph's Parish) and was a shoe saleswoman at A.J. Freiman's for thirty years. In recent years resided at Hycroft Place, Manotick where she was a member of St. Leonard's Church. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, on Saturday, November 29, 2003 from 9 a.m. until service in the Chapel at 10 a.m. Interment Notre-Dame Cemetery. Many thanks to the caring staff at "Longsfields Manor" for the two years of excellent care particularly "Cindy Stiller", Aunt Belle's guardian angel.
Eva Mary Heath - 11/22/2003
Our aunt Eva passed away peacefully at the New Orchard Lodge on Thursday, November 20th, 2003 in her 93rd year. She is fondly remembered by her nieces Marjorie Scott, Heather Turner, Carol Seaby, Janet Lafleur, Judy Buttemer and Susan Scott and their families; her nephews Thomas Lindsay and Robert Lindsay and family and her 2 brothers-in-law Herbert Scott and Tom Lindsay. She was a lady, tiny but firm-minded and would be pleased not to have to endure another Ottawa winter. Interment of cremated remains in Vancouver at a later date.
Claire Rosamond Heggtveit (nee St. John) - 11/26/2003
Died peacefully at Carleton Lodge, Ottawa on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at the age of 86. Born August 23, 1917 in Vancouver B.C., the daughter of Charles William St. John and Rose Monro. Wife of the late Francis George Heggtveit. Predeceased by brother David. W.W. II veteran. Friend of Bill W. A graduate of the University of British Columbia, B.A. (1939), M.S.W. (1954). Claire's professional career included employment with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration in Europe, and the Social Services Department, City of Vancouver. In 1955 until her retirement, Claire was an economist with the Department of National Health and Welfare in Ottawa where she carried out pioneer studies on the status of women in Canada. She authored and edited numerous publications and reports involving socio-economic research. Claire was an active member of the Canadian Federation of University Women. In 1998, she received the Persons Award from the Governor General of Canada for her lifetime work for the enhancement of equality, and in 2002 was nominated for the Order of Ontario. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Friday, November 28, 2003 from 1 to 2 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at 2 p.m. followed by Interment at Beechwood Cemetery. Flora Jamieson Hoag (Dr. Flora Rathbun) - 12/01/2003
Beloved wife and companion of Roger. Loving mother of Chris and Beth. Dear sister of Lisa, Catherine, Beth, Mary Kate and Amy. Flo faced cancer and found through it opportunity for personal growth and understanding. She died at home in peace with the love of her extended family and friends. She and her family received unfailing support from numerous health care workers at all levels. In particular she wanted to thank Sheryl McDiarmid and Rita Blattman. It is difficult to express the full extent of Flora and her family's gratitude to Dr. Vince Young for his fifteen years of skilled care and compassion. Freda Alice Hurst - 11/19/2003
Last surviving child of Alberta pioneers Lachlan and Sarah McKinnon. Predeceased by six brothers and six sisters. Suddenly, with dignity, after a short illness, on Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in her 87th year. Beloved wife of Charles K. Hurst. Loving mother of Jock (Wendy), Janet Griffiths and Andy (Penny). Cherished grandmother of Sam and Matthew Griffiths (Toronto), Amy and Marnie Hurst (Ottawa) and Keri, Katy, James and Alison Hurst (Vancouver). Remembered lovingly with awe and respect by her many nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbours whose lives she touched. Freda and Charlie celebrated their sixty-third anniversary in good health in September. Freda was a graduate of the University of Alberta (1938), having served as Vice-Chairman of the Students' Union and was active in many other campus activities including the Women's Basketball Team and Students' Christian Movemnet. A bright, intelligent and active woman, she was President of the Elizabeth Fry Society, one of the founding members and Vice-President of the Ottawa Youth Services Bureau, served on the Mayor's Committee on Youth, was the President of the Canadian Mental Health Association (Ottawa Branch) and was active in the C.G.I.T. Freda also supported the activities of the Y.W.C.A. in Calgary, Peterborough and Ottawa. Special thanks to the superb health professionals in the Emergency Ward and at the Acute Awareness Area and the Intensive Care Unit of the Civic Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Ottawa or the Ottawa Hospital, Civic Campus. Funeral arrangements in care of the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry. A celebration of Freda's life will be held at Parkdale United Church, 429 Parkdale Avenue, Ottawa on Friday, November 21 at 11:00 a.m.

Dear mother-in-law of Geno Gobbi (Betty Marlow). Also loved by her 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Dear sister of Marguerite (Jean-Roch) and Gilbert (Cécilia) and sister-in-law of Berthe, Cécile, Antonine, Claire and Lucille. Peacefully in hospital on Monday, November 17, 2003 at the age of 91. Beloved husband of 58 years of Norma (nee Johnson). Loving father of Don (Anna Fiocco) and Wendy Nicklin (Jim Robblee). Cherished grandfather of Sean, Rebecca (fiancé Doug Fitzpatrick), Michael, Robert and Jessica. Predeceased by brother Judge Jack McKnight and sister Betty McKnight. Art spent 41 years with the City of Ottawa where he was head of Legal Surveys at the time of his retirement. A well known tennis player and lifetime member of the Rideau Lawn Tennis Club, he later golfed and curled at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club.
