Loving father of Kim (Gerry McGillvray), Karen (Jonathon Donaldson) and Alex. Grandpa of Maddison, Tori, Jack and Annie. Survived by his sister Ruthanne Hartnell, parents-in-law George and Ruth Loveridge, brother-in-law Ted Loveridge (Yana) and nephew Kyle. Al was a proud business owner and community supporter for over 30 years. Audrey Merritt - 04/14/2004
passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 11, 2004. Audrey (nee Moses) was born in Cardiff Wales in 1922. She had two sisters, Gwladys Sheldon (deceased) and Brenda Dummer of Victoria, B.C. Audrey was a wonderful wife to Eddie (married 54 years) and loving mother to Keith (Jean), Castlegar, B.C. and Brenda Ann ( John Cavacciuti) Ottawa. She was a grandmother to Tory, Kyle and Katelyn and nana to Dante, Justin and Stefan. Audrey had three sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Hazel and Helen, and a brother-in-law Daryl (deceased) plus many nieces and nephews. She was the original secretary of the Bel-Air Community Association and an active member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church since its inception. Audrey played tennis and she and her husband were active for many years in square and round dancing. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge and participating in her coffee club for 48 years. In more recent years she was an active member of the ovarian cancer support group at the Ottawa General Hospital. She made many friends. Audrey was an elegant lady with a kind and generous nature and was well known for her gift of laughter. She had the rare ability to see the best in everyone and we are the better for having known her. She will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Church, 2112 Bel-Air Drive on Friday, April 16th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gynaecologic Oncology Fund of the Ottawa General Hospital, 510 Smyth Road, K1H 8L6 or the Palliative Care Outreach Program, 1455 Woodroffe Ave. S., Ottawa, ON K2G 1W1 would be most appreciated.
Anna Cathrine Nentwich (nee Brandhoj) - 04/06/2004
1921-2004 Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyère Centre, with her family by her side, on Monday, April 5, 2004 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Aarup, Denmark, Anna was blessed with a keen sense of humour and a spirit of adventure. She loved to sing and play the accordion for family and friends. She took great pleasure in her many house plants and enjoyed feeding the wildlife in her garden. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Franz, her sons Heinz (Clairellen) and Franz Werner, her brother Viktor Brandhoj (Inge) and many nieces and nephews in Denmark. Predeceased by her parents Mariane and Frederik Brandhoj, her sister Elna Jensen (Ejner) and her brother Christian. Very special thanks to the doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Elisabeth Bruyère Palliative Care Centre who treated Anna and her family with such loving care. July 22, 1951 - April 8, 2004 Peacefully at the Elisabeth Bruyère Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer, in her 53rd year. Widow of John Steven Nowak. Beloved partner of Keith Miller of Sudbury. Dearly loved mother of Natasha of Ottawa. She will be lovingly remembered by her mother Genevieve Winter of Melborne, Florida; sister Elizabeth Stokely of Ottawa, Michele Sauter (Harold) and her family of Ottawa and brother Michael Stokely (Anna) of Toronto. Sharon will be fondly remembered by her Uncle Bob and Aunt Pat and their family of Ottawa and her Aunt Judy of St. Catharines. Survived by her sister Deborah of Thorald. A good friend to the residents and staff of Park Place Retirement Residence, Ottawa. Michael Harold Rayner - 04/01/2004
FCA President of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants 1992-2001 Unexpectedly at home in Ottawa, ON, on March 30, 2004 in his 61st year. Beloved husband of Susan Elizabeth (Crawley). Proud and loving father of Jonathan (Heather Strome), David (Nicole Sanborn), Michael, and Sylvia. He was predeceased by his son Paul. Also mourned by brothers David (Clare) and John (Ann), and sisters Phoebe (David Gowdy), Janet (Robert Whillans) and Catherine (Bruce Ripley). A cherished uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, fellow hiker, friend and colleague. Michael's life was driven by a strong sense of public duty, which he learned from his father and mother at an early age. His career is witness to this quality in both the public and private sectors. He shouldered heavy responsibilities, never seeking the limelight. This he balanced with strong and supportive love of his family, his friends and his church. Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to the late Vice-Admiral Herbert S. Rayner and the late Betty G. Rayner, Michael graduated from Carleton University, qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1969, and was elected a fellow of the Institute in 1982. Beginning in 1970, he worked for various arms of the Canadian federal government, served as Executive Secretary of the Independent Review Committee of the Office of the Auditor General, and was appointed Acting Auditor General of Canada from September 1980 to March 1981. He later became partner-in-charge of the Ottawa office of Price Waterhouse Associates (1982-85), Comptroller General of Canada (1985-87), and senior partner with Deloitte & Touche, Toronto (1988-92). Michael then served as President and CEO of the CICA from 1992-2001. The International Federation of Accountants, as well as provincial and international institutes, benefited from his dedicated involvement over these years. In semi-retirement, he sat on the Auditor General's Panel of Senior Advisors, and on the Board of the Audit and Accountability Committee of the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency. Michael was a member of the national executive of St. John Ambulance as Treasurer (1976-80) and Registrar (1982-92), and a Commander in the Order of St. John. An active member of the Anglican Church, Michael's spiritual life deepened during many wonderful years at St. Clement's Eglinton in Toronto, where he twice served as Warden. His move back to Ottawa in 2002 brought him to St. Matthew's parish, where he sang as a choirboy in his youth. A member of the Audit Committee of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Canada, Michael's faith and dedicated service to God shone through in all aspects of his life. John Stewart (Stu) Scullion - 03/27/2004
passed away peacefully on March 19, 2004 at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 76 years. Stu is survived by his wife Betty Lou, children Michael, Cynthia and Jeffrey and his sister Grace. He was predeceased by his son John and sister Lucy. Stu was employed at The Ottawa Civic Hospital for 34 years until his retirement on 1986.
