Barb Tillotson - 01/18/2006
Barb passed away on Monday, January 16th, after a brave struggle with cancer. Barb was the cornerstone of her family that she adored and her life revolved around; her husband Dent, and sons Sam and Max. Born in The Netherlands, Barb came to Canada as a young girl with her parents, Hans and Anita Rademaker, and brothers Dennis and Pat. A long-time employee of Bell Canada, Barb's career spanned over a quarter of a century. She sought out ever increasing challenges within the company that included a wide range of projects and personnel. And as she made the transition from one project to the next, like the avid gardener she was, she nurtured friendships that became perennials, lasting a lifetime. Barb touched many lives during her life, and her outgoing personality, infectious smile, and laughter were a familiar trait that those whose lives she touched, never forgot. No matter what direction her journey through life took her, Barb would not hesitate to interrupt her travels to perform an act of kindness. For Barb, life was to be lived and, like everything that she took on, she put all of her vibrant energy into the challenge. Barb looked at the world as a backyard to be explored as she and Dent took their sons to see and experience the beauty of the planet. From sitting on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon watching an electrical storm dance across the desert horizon, to navigating around a sunbathing alligator on a hiking trail, looking out into crashing North Sea waves, and climbing the granite slopes of the White Mountains, Barb was as comfortable in a pair of hiking boots, gardening shoes, sandals, power-walking runners, or high heels. She moved like a dancer from one to another, never missing a step. Barb ensured that her Indonesian heritage, passion for music and art, and love of life remained alive in her sons, and gave them a connection to their past so that they would see the future and all of the infinite opportunities that were possible. For Barb, her living legacy is her sons who carry on her beautiful spirit and passion. Friends may celebrate the life of Barb with her family at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home, 315 McLeod Street on Thursday, January 19th and Friday, January 20th, between the hours of 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Barb would appreciate your support in the fight against breast cancer by making donations to Breast Cancer Action or the Canadian Cancer Society.
