Sparks, Arthur
Suddenly at home on Sunday, February 9th, 2003, while working on his truck, at the age of 61 years, Art Sparks of Saugeen Shores. Loving friend and husband of the former Brenda McIntosh. Loved dad of Grant and his wife Cindy, and Donna Sparks, all of Saugeen Shores. Bumpa of Nathaniel Sparks and Grampa of Abigail Sparks. Brother of Janice Campbell of Port Elgin. He will be missed by Brenda’s family and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill St., Port Elgin, from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral service will be conducted in Port Elgin United Church, 840 Bruce St., Port Elgin on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bob Johnston officiating.

Sousa, Antonio Medeiros
In Southampton on Thursday, February 28th, 2002 in his 84th year, Antonio Sousa of Port Elgin. Father of Antonio and his wife Maria, Eduardo and his wife Maria, all of Toronto, Gabriel and his wife Almerinda of Port Elgin, Joe and his wife Maria of Calgary, and John and his wife Connie of Toronto. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. Brother of Gil of Ottawa, Manuel of Toronto, Deolinda of Portugal. He is predeceased by two great-granddaughters.
Friends may call at the W. Kent Milroy Port Elgin Chapel, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin (Town of Saugeen Shores), on Friday from 7 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Port Elgin on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with Father Robert Hudson officiating.
Interment Sanctuary Park Cemetery, Port Elgin.

At the Grey Bruce Health Services, Southampton, on his 79th birthday, Patrick Solomon of Saugeen First Nation. Husband of the late Velma Ritchie and Alvina Wahbegona. Father of Donald, David, and Roderick, all of Owen Sound, Bonnie McCue of Niagara Falls, Sally Solomon Kellestine of Sarnia, and Tim of Barrie. He is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brother of Helen Mason. Father-in-law of Sharon Solomon. He is predeceased by his sons, Hank, Harvey, and Ronald, his daughter Leatrice, and his grandson Gregory.

Solomon, Velma
Suddenly on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2001, at the age of 77 years, Velma Ritchie Solomon, of the Saugeen First Nation, wife of Patrick Solomon, mother of Donald of Owen Sound Hank and his wife Sharon of Saugeen First Nation, David and Roderick, both of Owen Sound, Bonnie McCue of Niagara Falls, Sally Solomon Kellestine of Sarnia, and Tim ol Barrie. Velma is survived by 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, one sister Louise Mitchell of Saugeen First Nation, and is predeceased by one son Ronald, and by one grandson, by her sisters Alvina Nashkewa, Thelma Ritchie, and Myrtle Austin, and brothers Wilson, Nelson and Leslie Ritchie..
Friends may call at the Saugeen Full Gospel Church, Scotch Settlement Rd., Saugeen First Nation, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted in the church on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

Solomon, Henry "Hank"
At the Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound, on Sunday, November 10th, 2002 in his 52nd year, Hank Solomon of Saugeen First Nation. Beloved husband of the former Sharon Ritchie. Dear father of Cindy, Kathy & Fred, Matthew, Mark, and Vincent Solomon all of Saugeen First Nation. Dear grandfather of Kristen, Dana, Chelsea, Craig, Bryanna, Alyssa, Jaydyn, and Shelby. He is also survived by his father Patrick Solomon of Saugeen First Nation. Brother of Sally and Ed Kellestine of Sarnia, Bonnie McCue of Niagara Falls, Roderick, David, and Donald, all of Owen Sound, and Tim Cummings of Barrie. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Alvina Wahbegona and Velma Ritchie, his son Gregory, his brothers Ronald and Harvey and by his sister Leatrice.

She is survived by 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Grandma of Mark Fenton and Ang of Port Elgin, Karen and Andy Robinson of Midland, and Diane Smyth of Brampton and Karl Smyth of Orangeville. Great-grandmother of Spencer and Brock Fenton and Sydney Robinson. Sister-in-law of Norma Gilchrist, Marjorie Gilchrist, Verna Henderson, and Alice Booth. She is predeceased by her brothers Donald and Neil Gilchrist.

A gathering to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Port Elgin, on Saturday, August 9th, 2003 from 2 to 4 p.m.

John Smith
Suddenly at Hamilton on Saturday, June 10th, 2006, John Frederick Smith of Gobles Grove. Son of Dorothy Smith, father of Angie, Stephanie and Michael all of Stratford. Brother of Dan and his wife Myra and Lenore and her husband Clayton Long, all of Port Elgin. Nephew of Bonnie Nelles of London. John will be missed by his life long friend David Nelles of Stratford and by his many fishing buddies from Hamilton to Port Elgin and beyond. Predeceased by his father John and by his sister Rozanne.
John was born 48 years ago in Stratford, but his heart for the past 35 years has been in Port Elgin (preferably in a boat with a fishing pole in his hand).
John’s motto “Women Adore Me, Fish Fear Me!”
There will be a celebration of John’s life form 11:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 15th, 2006, at the Brucedale Community Centre, 12th Concession of Bruce Twp., East of Hwy #21, first place on the left in the second mile and a quarter..
Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to John’s favourite charity the Children’s Aid Society.

Smith, Jean Ida
At the Southampton Care Centre on Sunday, April 8th, 2001, Jean Smith of Southampton. Wife of Cyril Smith. Mother of Nancy (Mrs. Wray Smith) of Southampton, Paul and his wife Terri of Kitchener, and Danny of Southampton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by four sisters.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one sister Marjorie McLean of Port Elgin. Mrs. Smith is predeceased by three sons, Ray, Donald and Blaine, and one grandson, Rick Carr, and by two brothers, John Donald, "J.D.", and Norman.

passed away at her residence in Port Elgin, early Monday morning, March 18, 2002, at the age of 47 years, after bravely fighting a glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour, Diane Smith of Port Elgin, loving wife of Paul Schendel, dear sister of Lois and her husband Keith Blackshaw, and Wayne Smith, all of Owen Sound. Dearly loved daughter of Jarvis and Florence Smith of Owen Sound. Much loved aunt of Matthew and Sarah Blackshaw.
At Diane’s request, a private family funeral service will be conducted in Division Street United Church in Owen Sound, with the Rev. Keith Reynolds officiating.
