Louise Reatherford
REATHERFORD - Peacefully at Sumac Lodge on Wednesday, July 20, 2005 LOUISE MARGARET (ELIAS) REATHERFORD, age 92 of Sarnia. Beloved wife of Cecil and mother of Ann. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by son Paul, her parents, two brothers and five sisters. Born February 2, 1913 in Tamakowka, Russia of German parents. In 1923, following the revolution, famine and typhus epidemic (when her parents died), she and her siblings fled to Canada with the help of an uncle. Arriving in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, she lived with a local family and later with a married sister. Learning the English language, she completed high school and receiving a First Class Teaching Certificate, taught in several rural Saskatchewan schools until marrying Cecil in 1939 and starting a new life in Sarnia. Always known as a true lady, Louise excelled in her role as hostess for Cecil. She was an active member of Central United Church, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, a leader in CGIT and Explorer groups and active in the United Church Women's organization. Retired member of the Rebekah Lodge and the IODE Canatara Chapter. Her hobbies included crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, embroidery and all aspects of music, especially singing, although she had always wished she had learned to play the piano. A Memorial Service will be held at Central United Church on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 at 11 a.m.

John Suhler
SUHLER – At Bluewater Health, Mitton Site, JOHN (JACK) DAVID SUHLER, age 82, after a brief illness, died peacefully on Friday, February 3, 2006. Beloved husband and friend of Dorothy. Loved father of Margaret (Rob) Jukna, St. Petersburg, Florida. Step-father of Donna (Wayne) Bell, Toronto, Ken (Susan) Dewar, Mississauga, and Don Dewar, Vancouver. Grandfather of Heather Byrnes and Bryn, Stephanie and Christopher Dewar. Dear brother of David (Joyce) Suhler. Predeceased by his parents Helene and Alfred Suhler, his sisters Elaine Houle and Doreen Spaulding and his brother Gordon Suhler. John was a lifetime member of the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club and retired from Imperial Oil in 1984 after many years of service. Visitation at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of procession to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated by Fr. Len Desjardins at 11:30 a.m. Cremation to follow with Interment at a later date at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. Ruth Yorke
Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2006 at High Park United Church.
Cremation has taken place and a private Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
YORKE – At Marshall Gowland Manor on Thursday, July 13, 2006, RUTH YORKE, age 94, died peacefully with family members by her side. Beloved wife of the late Fred (1979). Loving mother of Ward and his wife Karen Yorke, Ron and his wife Mary Yorke, Pat and her husband John Craig, and John and his wife Carol Yorke. Proud grandma and great-grandma. Dear sister of Dorothy Chapman, Rev. George Ward, and John Ward and his wife Bea. Predeceased by her parents Glenn and Grace Ward; brothers Glenn, Lawrence, Jim, and Melvin Ward; sisters Marie Sled and Margaret Jones; and grandson Christopher Yorke. Ruth was a charter member of High Park United Church. A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held at High Park United Church on Saturday August 12, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and a private Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. Virginia "Ginny" Keelan
KEELAN – After a brief hospitalization, VIRGINIA ANN “GINNY” KEELAN, died peacefully with her family by her side at Bluewater Health, Mitton Site. A grand lady, she was the beloved wife of Ray Keelan for over 64 years. Loved mother of Brian Keelan and his partner Sylvia Foreman, Faith Capern and her husband George, Joyce Muddiman and her partner Reid Campbell, and Hope Parker and her husband Philip. She will also be be lovingly remembered by daughters-in-law Robyn & Sue Keelan. Proud grandmother of Ned, Kate, Jaime, Sarah, Rory, James, Edward, Matthew, Kaitlin, Trisha and Eric and great-grandmother of Mitchell. Dear sister of Eric and Al Crist. Predeceased by her parents Alfred and Sophia Crist, her sons Eric and Mark Keelan, her sister Barbara Matous and her brother Brian Crist. Ginny touched the lives of many people throughout her many years of volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish and The Catholic Women’s League. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family and a large community of friends whose lives she touched in many ways over the years. Friends will be received at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME at 431 Christina St. N., Sarnia, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where prayers will be offered at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church by Fr. Maria Switocz
SWITOCZ - We are sad to announce the death of MARIA JANINA (WALESA) SWITOCZ on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. She lived a long and wonderful life. She will be sadly missed by Edward, her loving husband of 53 years. She was the devoted mother of Alice (Jonathan Goldbloom), Ann (Jonathan Cohen) and Barbara (John Robson) and cherished Babcia of Nathan, Evan, Alexandra, Matthew and Julia. Sister of Jozef Walesa, Poland. We would like to thank our dear friend, Adelle Richards Vosbourgh, for her care and support. We would also like to thank Dr. Akira Sugimoto, L.H.S.C. Victoria Campus, Dr. Rex Garrett and the nurses of the Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health for their compassionate care. Mary was the past-president of the Queen of Peace Catholic Women’s League. The family will receive friends at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. LEGERE – At Bluewater Health Palliative Care on December 9, 2004, JOSEPH MEDERIC LEGERE, age 71 of Sarnia. Beloved husband of Nancy (Smith) Legere. Dear father of Susanne Pitfield (David) and Claude Legere (Angela), Sarnia. Father-in-law of Brenda English (Peter), Brigden. Loving grandfather of Wayd and Alex Pitfield, Cody and Carolyn Legere, Tara and Chantal Legere. Brother of Romauld Legere (Laurette), Gildard Legere (Barb), A. Marie Legere all of Sarnia, Real Legere (Jeannine), Camlachie, Marguerite Cayer (Andre), Connecticutt, Raymonde Cormier (Alphonse) and Albertine Legere, New Brunswick. Brother-in-law of Victor Chaisson. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by infant daughters Mary and Marie and son Martin, parents Martin and Lydia Legere and sister Alphonsine Chaisson. Mederic operated Legere Construction for many years. Dear mother of Joe & his wife Marisa De Sena Mallozzi and Loreta all of Sarnia. Loving grandmother of Serena and Stefan. Daughter of Ionda (D'Amiano) and the late Afisio Polidoro, Italy. Sister of Teresa La Posta & her husband Raimonde, Maria Felice Severin & her husband Sylvio and Vincenzo Polidoro & his wife Rosarina all of Italy. Sister-in-law of Vincenzo & his wife Antonetta Mallozzi, Sarnia and Pasquale Mallozzi, Italy. Also surviving are many nieces & nephews. Predeceased by sister and brother-in-law Francesca and Calvino Polidoro. Ida enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She was a dedicated employee of the Sarnia Observer for 33 years and was a member of the Penzionati Italiani of St. Peter's. ZAJDA – Suddenly at Bluewater Health, Norman St., Sarnia on Monday, July 26, 2004, MARY (KOVAL) ZAJDA, age 69. Wife of the late Wtadystaw Zajda. Dear mother of Kathy Hemstreet & husband Mike, Stan Zajda & wife Erika, Helen Zajda, Andrea Bowness & husband Ken. Much loved grandmother of Natasha and Erica Hemstreet, Matthew Bowness and Vaughn and Madison Zajda. Daughter of the late Joseph and Marie Koval. Sister of the late Joseph and John Koval and Helen Turza. Mary was devoted to and had always taken an active role in church activities, serving as President and co-president of the Catholic Women’s Leagues at both Our Lady of Mercy and Queen of Peace parishes. Mary volunteered her time to and very much enjoyed running the breakfast program at St. Therese’s School, which recently awarded her the “Living Faith Award of Distinction” by the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. Mary loved and was loved by the children there. Mary was previously employed at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Polysar, Imperial Oil and Bell Canada. She will be sadly missed by her family, many friends and co-workers. She was well known for her baking, cooking, and special event organizing abilities.
