Michael Hanington Howard
HOWARD, Michael Hanington - Mike ended his courageous battle with cancer peacefully on Sunday the 13th day of April, 2003. He was the son of Marion Elizabeth Howard (Hanington) and the late John Brunswick Howard. Mike was the loving husband and best friend to Brenda (Davis). Father to Christopher (wife Kelly) and Jennifer. Joyful Gramps to Kaitlyn. Brother to John (Ann) and Peter (Debbie). Son-in-law to Jean Paterson Davis and Alvin Davis. Mike was employed by Shell Canada Products for 34 years leaving behind a group of lifelong friends. A Service of Thanksgiving and Celebration of Michael's life will be held on Saturday 26 April at 11 am in St. Mark's Presbeterian Church, 1 Greenland Rd. (Donway East/Lawrence Ave.), Don Mills. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Reception to follow in the Knox Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Magic Castle Children's Services Fund (Princess Margaret Hospital, 610 University Ave., M5G 2M9) or ask that you sponsor a child in a summer camp program of your choice. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the 17th Floor and Palliative Care Units of the Princess Margaret Hospital for their Compassion and Care.
Linda Barley-Brearley
BARLEY-BREARLEY, Linda Jane, BA, B Ed.-At age 58, Linda was called home to our Risen Lord on April 22nd, 2003. Freed from her suffering, she passed on peacefully. Loving daughter, sister, friend...teacher, leader, mentor and lover of all nature. Linda was preceeded by her parents Nella and William Barley. A dedicated, patient and loving Mom to William, and a gentle, kind inspiration to her daugher-in-law Nadia. Her sister Elinor and brother-in-law Donald Brown will miss her dearly. As a life-long member of Willowdale United Church, she leaves behind many cherished friends. A memorial will be held in place of a funeral. Mom was a fighter. Even when she knew the cancer was winning, she wished that her body be used for medical research, so that hopefully ovarian cancer can de defeated! Family and friends are invited to a memorial in Linda's honour on Saturday, April 26 at 3 pm, at Willowdale United Church, 349 Kenneth Avenue (East of Yonge, South of Finch). In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Association.
Mom will be forever missed.
James Edward Dougherty
DOUGHERTY, James Edward- Born in Mimico, Ontario, February 11, 1926, departed peacefully March 29, 2003. Resided in North York for many years and briefly in Thornhill. Survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Florence Hastings Dougherty, also brother Hugh Dougherty and sister Theresa Dougherty and nephews Michael and Stephen Dougherty. Friends may call at the R.S. Olive Martha Eleanor Jordan
JORDAN, Olive 'Teddie'-Peacefully, with her daughters by her side, on Tuesday, April 22, 2003 at the age of 96. Beloved wife of the late Harold Chester Jordan. Will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Betty Handerson and the late Peter, and June Mitchell and the late James. Loving sister to her five brothers and five sisters and remembered always by their families. Proud and loving Nana to April (Forrest) and great grandmother to Rena. A private family service will be held at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciared by the family.
Oiva Antero Sipila
SIPILA, Oiva Antero 'Andy'-passed away on Tuesday April 22, 2003, in his 76th year. He will be sadly missed by his nieces Paivi and Eija and nephew Antti in Finland as well as his many close friends both here in North America and also in Finland. Friends may visit on Monday April 28, 2003, from 10- 11 am at the Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church (25 Old York Mills Rd.) followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Cremation. If desired, donations to the Agricola Finnish Lutheran Church in Andy's memory would be greatly appreciated.
William Wyllie
WYLLIE, Wm. R. (Bill), C.A.-passed away peacefully on April 23, 2003. Loving husband of Ann (nee Christie), devoted father of Heather Wyllie, Dawne Robertson and cherished Grandpa of Holley Robertson. Nephew of Peggy Lahaie. Dear brother of Janice Upton (and Ken), uncle to Christopher Park and Heather Williams (and family). Brother-in-law and friend to Don Christie and Mary McGown (and family). Special uncle to Elizabeth, Caroline and Tim Logan, Linda and John Walker, Jessica and Colin Chant. Son of the late Pat and Russell, stepson of Stan. Predeceased by his sister Jackie, and son-in-law Tim Robertson.
Bill had planned on going to Victoria College to become a psychologist. He decided to study for the ministry and attended Prairie Bible Institute. He returned to Toronto and became a C.A. and held positions of Comptroller and Vice-President-Finance of 2 companies. He opened his own financial consulting practice in which he enjoyed giving seminars for the Ontario Government, Dupont, Goodyear, and many others. For the past 12 years, Bill enjoyed working with York University.
Many thanks to Bill's clients and all our friends for their support. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. William and Nancy Logan who have always been there for us. Special thanks to Dr. Shafai and staff at York Central Hospital for their exceptional care and attention. Funeral services will be held at R.S. Demetre James Papadolias
PAPADOLIAS, Dimitrios(Jim)-(September 21, 1938-April 25, 2003)-It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Jim Papadolias, after a long and courageous battle with Pick's Disease, on April 25, 2003. In his 64th year, Jim passed away at home, while surrrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Effie. Loving father of Christos, Eleni and Chrisoula. Loved by his son-in-law, John, his granddaughter, Justina Zoe and by Verena and Victoria. Devoted brother of Georgia, Christophoro, and his late sisters Agelo, Panayiota, Anna, and Katina. Fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephew and many friends. He was deeply cared for and will be sincerely missed by Marcia and Elena, whose dedication to his well-being was remarkable and greatly valued.
Jim came to Canada from Greece in 1957, with a dream to make a better life for himself. He accomplised this together with his wife Effie and raised a loving family. During that time, he successfully formed his own company, Zeus Electric. He was actively involved with the church and Greek community, frequently hosting events and volunteering support. Strong memories will continue of his commitment to his family, sense of humour, generosity and loving kindness. We will all miss him dearly.

JONES, Vera (nee Davenport)-passed away in her sleep at Extendicare in North York early Saturday morning, April, 26, 2003 in her 94th year. Loving wife of the late E.W. Gordon Jones (1980). Devoted mother of Mrs. Susan Neal, Mr. Calvin Jones and the late Mrs. Barbara Dunn (1998). Loving grandmother to Brian Neal, Sheryl Neal, Mrs. Carol Hall, Ms. Cathy Dunn, Mrs. Karen Young, Mrs. Sandra Savery, Mrs. Lisa Tedesco and Kenneth and Anne Jones. Retired Captain North York Fire Department (1956-1986)-It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Gord Banton on April 26, 2003 at Markham Stouffville Hospital with Joan, his beloved wife of 27 years, by his side. Predeceased by dear wife Jacqueline (Pollard) and mother of his adored children; Dana (Franco), Dale (Elena), David (Patrice), Daryl (Maurene). Louie was a determined individual who was a proud Shriner and was a cornerstone at Yonge and Eglinton for over 40 years operating Theodore's. Daughter of the late John and Alice (Gunn) Sinclair, (a Barnardo orphan). Lovingly remembered by her sons Dr. Ralph (June) and John (Ilga); sisters Mary Reid (the late Frank) and Jean Roblin (Ted); grandchildren, Susan Girvan, Laura Shaw-Robertson (Mike), Andrew Shaw, Sarah Dougald (Rob) and Barbara Shaw as well as 3 great grandchildren, Siobhan and Richard Girvan and Ainsley Dougald. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Gordon (1963), her son Douglas (2002) and his wife Joan (1995) and 5 of her siblings. Friends may call at the R. S. John Bishop
BISHOP, John-passed away suddenly at his home on May 1, 2003 at the age of 87. Predeceased by his beloved wife Audrey, he is survived by his daughter Judythe and her husband Arthur and his son Michael and his wife Jennifer. Loving grandfather to Stephen, Robert, Carol, Russell, John, Adam, Melanie and Geoffrey and great grandfather to Rebecca, Ayrton and Emerson. He also leaves two brothers, Tom and Duncan and many nieces and nephews. John served as a paratrooper in the British Army during WWll. In 1957 he and his family left England to start a new life in Canada. On arriving he began work at Dominion Stores, staying with the company until his retirement in 1980.
