Born in a remote mountain village in northern Italy, Michel De Pellegrin immigrated to Canada in 1959 aboard the Homeric with sixty dollars in his pocket. Blessed by chance, it was on this crossing that he met 18 year old Lucille Paquet, his future wife.
Holding several concurrent part-time jobs, Michel earn three successive degrees at McGill and Sir George Williams University in his fourth language (English). Graduating with a B.Eng, MA in Economics and an MBA, he was immediately hired by Canadian National. In 1983, he was named President and CEO of one of CN subsidiaries, CANAC International and guided it through its most prosperous periods.
Since his retirement from CANAC, he has held several positions on the Boards for charitable organizations and the private sector.
Michel was, above all, a devoted, caring family man. He married Lucille in 1965, and together they had two children, Carina and Robert, who both have successful professional and family lives.
Michel was a man of utmost integrity and honor. Richly endowed with a strong sense of moral justice, he always strove for enlightenment and understanding. He touched and encouraged many, and was always an inspiration and a mentor. His passing was sudden and too soon. We all feel there was so much more to be done and said. He will be deeply missed and will be forever in our thoughts.
