Mildred E. McIntyre
81, Glace Bay
Mildred E. McIntyre, 81, of 20 Churchill Centre, Glace Bay, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, following a lengthy illness and stay at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Complex (Halifax Infirmary Site) in Halifax.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Katherine (Wilton) McDonald. She was a faithful member of St. John’s Parish, New Aberdeen. Mildred will be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family at her long time summer bungalow in Big Pond. Her work life included employment at the Gordon Brothers and Leader Stores in Sydney. She was a volunteer at a neighborhood nursery school.
Mildred is survived by her husband of 53 years, Reginald; three daughters, Donna, Mrs. Scott Height, Nancy, Mrs. Gary McIntyre, both of Cple Harbour, N.S., and Karen, Mrs. Ross Palmer, Fredericton, N.B.; three sons, Reginald David (Jean), Antigonish County, N.S., Norman (Lorna), Toronto, Ont. and Roy (Robin), Pictou County, N.S. and by 13 precious grandchildren, David, Leah, Kevin, Kari, Neil, Colin, Amber, Breton, Meaghan, Matthew, Nick, Jannah and Shaelyn.
Besides her parents, Mildred was predeceased by brothers, Orville, Sanford, Ronald and Herbie and by infant grandson, Byron James.
She is also survived by sisters, Josie, Mrs. Joseph Neville, Sydney, Lexie, Mrs. Sid Power, Sydney, Pearl, Mrs. Lorne Mattison, Toronto and Jessie, Mrs. Matt Stoker, Glace Bay and by a brother, Donald McDonald (Phyllis), Glace Bay.
At Mildred’s request, her remains have been donated for research, to the Department of Anatomy, at Dalhousie University Medical School.
A memorial service to celebrate her love and her life has been scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at St. John’s Church, New Aberdeen, with Fr. Paul MacGillivray officiating. A short reception will follow at St. John’s Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make donations may do so to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, QEII Health Science Centre (in care of fund T138), Halifax, in grateful thanks for their wonderful love and care.

Herbert Stubbard, 69, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side.
Beloved husband of Muriel for 47 years. Loving father of Valerie and her husband Michael Rousom, Connie Rendell, Heather and her husband Chris Clarke and Sherry and her husband Paul Sguazzin. Proud grandfather of Jennifer and her husband Jay, Paul, Derek, Tyler, Taylor and Paul James, all of London. Survived by his sisters, Ruth, Dorothy, Rhodena and Irene, a brother, Barry, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his mother, Rhoda, father, Moody, brothers, Emerson and John and a sister, Eunice.
Visitation will be held at the Westview Funeral Chapel, London, Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral and committal services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999 at 1 p.m., Cremation and Interment of ashes, Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, London.
Memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. A tree will be planted in Herbert’s memory.
Edith Marie (Aucoin) Boudreau
65, New Waterford
Edith Marie (Aucoin) Boudreau, age 65, of 356 King St., New Waterford, beloved wife of Gus, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
She was a member of Mount Carmel Church. She was a member of the New Waterford’s Pensioners Club, Circle Evangeline Club and also a member of New Waterford Aerobics Club.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James and Mary (Chiasson) Aucoin.
Besides her husband, Gaston she is survived by two sons, Raymond (Carol), Flin Flon, Man. and David (Aubrey), New Waterford; daughter, Anne Marie (Mrs. John McNeil), New Victoria; sisters, Delia (Mrs. John Leonard), Gananogue, Eileen (Mrs. Paul Gouthro), Kingston, Ont., Finn (Mrs. Fikey) McNeil, Louise, New Waterford; brothers, Milton (Carol), Hamilton, Russell, New Waterford; grandchildren, Chrystal, John Michael, Anthony, Renee, Tracy, Jason and Lyle, also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Ernest and Levie, sister, Lillian.
Visitation for the late Mrs. Boudreau will be held Friday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday 10 a.m. in Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Donald MacGillivray officiating. Interment will follow in the parish Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Boudreau’s memory to the Cancer Society or charity of one’s choice are suggested as an expression of sympathy.

Grace (Matheson) Boyd, 53, passed away in Toronto on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Charlotte (McCharles) Matheson of Baddeck.
She is survived by her husband, Brian, daughter, Natalie, son, Adam, grandchildren, Ricky and Cody, all of Toronto; brother, Ralph, Halifax; several nieces and nephews, cousins and Aunt Edna Matheson, Baddeck, lifetime friends Edie and Sylvia.
Cremation will take place. Burial at a later date.

Loretta Mae MacPherson, 88, of Ashby Road, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Neil P. and Anzonette (Poushay).
She was a housekeeper in New York before retiring to Cape Breton. She was a member of Trinity United Church. In her early days she was a keen softball player in Sydney and recent years an avid hockey fan.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, John Edmund, Emerson and William.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Church or Palliative Care.
Interment in Eastmount Cemetery.
Paul Abraham Naddaf
37, Alder Point
It was with a greet sense of shock that the relatives and many friends learned of the sudden death of Paul Abraham Naddaf of Alder Point and formerly of North Sydney.
Paul’s death occurred on Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
He was born in North Sydney, the son of Mrs. Anna (Cantwell) Naddaf, of the Parkview Seniors Complex, North Sydney and of the late Abraham Naddaf.
He spent his early years in North Sydney, graduating from high school in 1979. He was a mechanic by trade and spent many years employed in that field. During the past year he was employed by Plaza Lincoln Mercury of Sydney.
Surviving besides his mother are five sisters, Carole (Blair) Meating, Sydney Mines, Maureen (Cyril) Serroul, Bras d’Or, Paula (Ralph) Walsh, Pierrefonds, Que., Linda (Victor) Mizza, Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. and Nancy Naddaf, Toronto; two brothers, Dr. Gerard (Jane) Naddaf, York University, Toronto and Kevin Naddaf, Toronto.
Also surviving his fiance, Karen Young, Alder Point and her children, William and Briana, also by a number of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Visitation 2- 4, 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Church, North Sydney with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Bras d’Or. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church Improvement Fund or to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Stephen James Roy Phillips

Stephen Phillips, 21, of 39 Daniel Dr., Glace Bay, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, as a result of accidental drowning, in Jasper, Alta.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of Lowell and Eunice (Pomeroy) Phillips. A graduate of Glace Bay High School and student of the hospitality administration program of UCCB, Stephen enjoyed outdoor activities and always focused on the well being of others. He especially enjoyed his friends and experiences at Baddeck.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his sister, Wendy Jean Phillips, at home; his paternal grandparents, Harold and Christina Phillips, Westmount. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Stephen was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, William and Helen Pomeroy.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by individual notification.
Donations to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses would be appreciated as memorials.

Daniel Joseph Roberts, 54, of 202 Brookside St., Glace Bay, passed away suddenly on Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Camella (Poirier) Roberts.
Mr. Roberts was a member of St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. He was a former employee with Cadegan Fisheries, Glace Bay and later with Cape Breton Development Corp., from where he retired. Daniel was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his sisters, Lorraine (Mrs. Brian Warcop), Bernice (Mrs. Wayne Eagles), Valerie (Mrs. Gary (Doc) Strong), all of Glace Bay, Carol (Mrs. Bill Jessome), Frances Roberts, Ontario, Rose Marie Roberts, Halifax, Mary and Marilyn Roberts, both of Sydney; brothers, Charles (Junior), Gerard, both of Glace Bay, Stanley, Ontario, Doug, Sydney and John. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, with whom he enjoyed and loved their company; very close family friends, the “Harts”, of Dorchester Street, Glace Bay and sister-in-law, Brenda Roberts, Glace Bay.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by `rothers, Michael and Emery (in infancy).
Visitation for the late Mr. Roberts will be in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Thursday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony’s Church with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. Cremation will follow and burial will take place at a later date.
Any memorials in Daniel’s memory many be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association.

Gerald R. (Jerry) Stapleton, of Surrey, B.C., formerly of Mira Road, Sydney, passed away on Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, Jerry was the son of the late John Patrick and Anne Mae (Lively) Stapleton.
He was also predeceased by a brother, Tommy, a nephew, Darren and mother-in-law, Marge.
His wife of 35 years, Jeanette, his children, Tina, Troy, Pat (Teresa), Loretta (Corey), Peter and Lisa, grandchildren, Correen, Allan, Justin, and Rebekah will sadly miss Jerry. Also surviving are two sisters, Joan (Mrs. Leo MacLeod), Surrey, Cheryl, Sydney; nine brothers, Joseph (Kay), Toronto, Lorne (Loretta), Surrey, Allan (Laila), Middle Sackville, Carl (Alma), Dennis (Kay), Kirby (Pat), Leo, all of Sydney, Vernon, Vancouver, and Rick, Toronto, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 18, at 12 p.m. at Valleyview Memorial Gardens, Surrey, B.C. followed by a celebration of Jerry’s life at his brother Lorne’s in Surrey.
Frederick Alexander Walker 78, Sydney
Frederick Alexander Walker, 78, of 431 Bentinck St., Sydney, formerly of Rigby Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, in Dartmouth.
Born in Sussex, N.B., he was the son of the late Bubba and Mary Walker of N.B. He was a veteran of the Second World War having served overseas with the Royal Canadian Army. He was employed with the CNR in the freight shed for 36 years, retiring in 1983.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Barbara Wilson, B.C.; three sons, David, Sydney, John, Dartmouth and Charlie (Laurie), Dartmouth; one brother, Harry (Mildred), Amherst; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Billy, David and Kyle and one great-grandchild, Kelly.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Beatrice Wood in 1990 and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation for the late Mr. Walker will be held Thursday from 7-9 p.m. in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Burial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Resurrection Cemetery with the Rev. A. MacDougall officiating.

Rebecca Jardine Walton and Bailey Jardine Walton, infant twin daughters of Joannie Jardine Walton and Stephen Walton of Oakville, Ont., were born and peacefully passed away on Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
The twins are survived by their loving parents, grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Eric Jardine of Sydney and Mr. and Mrs. Melville Walton, Scarborough, Ont. and many grieving aunts, uncles and cousins.
A private family service will be held in Saint Andrew’s United Church, Sydney.
Arrangements under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel.

Theresa Chiasson, 66, Big Bras d’Or, formerly of Dingwall, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at home.
Born at Middle Harbour, Victoria County, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Annie (Dunphy) Petrie. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Dingwall.
Surviving are husband, Zephy Chiasson; three daughters, Margie (Greg MacPhee), East Bay, Linda (Danny) Mitchell, Moncton, N.B., Eileen (Sandy Dunn), Port Hawkesbury; five sons, Stanley (Dianne), Pictou, Stuart (Rosalie), Port Hawkesbury, David (Faith), Westville, John (Lisa), Ottawa, Richard, Port Hawkesbury; two sisters, Mary (Joe Boudreau), Arichat, Evangaline (Thomas Dixon), South Harbour, Victoria County; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Predeceased by sisters, Susie Fricker, Viola Ingraham, daughter, Jacquline, grandson, Darren.
The late Mrs. Chiasson will have visitation from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Dingwall, today (Thursday). Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Church, Dingwall. Interment in parish Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish.

John Raymond Lawrence, 68, of 11 Wesley St., Bridgeport, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Port aux Basques, Nfld., he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Dickes) Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Mr. Lawrence was self-employed as a fisherman.
Mr. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Sarah (Tapp) Lawrence; daughters, Eve Keylor, Glace Bay, Ethel (Mrs. Earl Close), Truro, Eileen (Mrs. Michael Melnick), Glace Bay; sons, Douglas (Margaret), David (Ann Marie), Raymond (Sharon), Thomas (Donna), all of Glace Bay; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers, Lewis and Howard, Port aux Basques, Nfld; sister, Alice, Sydney Mines.
He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
Visitation for the late Mr. Lawrence will be held Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church at 2 p.m. with Fr. Paul C. Findlay officiating.

Neil Joseph Sinclair
35, Glace Bay
Neil Joseph Sinclair, 35, of 465 Phalen Rd., Glace Bay, passed away very peacefully at home on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999.
Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of Andrew and Linda (Snow) Sinclair. Neil was a master corporal with the Canadian Armed Forces, last serving at Base Gagetown, Oromocto, N.B. He enjoyed all sports and was a great fan of hockey. He also loved country music and was himself a musician. He will be especially missed by his dear friend, Joe Sparrow.
Besides his parents, Neil is survived by sons, Robert, Billy, daughter, Natasha, all in New Brunswick; sisters, Linda (Emmanuel) Sparrow, Glace Bay, Mary (Francis) Lynk, Glace Bay, Norma (Brad) Peck, Gardiner and Ruth, Loch Lomond; brothers, Gordon (Cathy), Andrew (Mary), Alex (Rowena) and John, all of Glace Bay.
There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements will be announced individually by the family. Funeral under the direction of Curry Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
Donations in Neil’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Albert Snow, 81, of 23 South St., Donkin, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex.
Born in Donkin, he was the son of the late Jacob and Christina (Wood) Snow.
Mr. Snow served in the Second World War with the Cape Breton Highlanders in the United Kingdom and Italy and was a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders Association; a lifetime member of Branch 5 Royal Canadian Legion, he served on all committees in the legion and he received the Meritious Service Medal.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis (Gosley) Snow; daughter, Linda (Mrs. Erroll Jewelles), Glace Bay; son, Brian (Linda) Snow, Donkin; three grandchildren, Phyllis, Allison and Brian Jr.; sisters, Estelle Howie and Jean Grant, both of Donkin, Christina Campbell, Ontario; brothers, William, Port Morien and Robert, Hamilton, Ont.
He was predeceased by brothers, Tom, Jim, Herb and Adam, also by Edward and Angus in infancy and by a sister, Midge.
There will be no visitation at the request of the family. Funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 at 2 p.m. in St. Luke’s United Church, Donkin with the Rev. Eric Lynk officiating. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Cemetery, Donkin.
