Peacefully on Thursday February 15, 2001 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville in his 78th year. Bill, beloved husband of 56 years of Ethel Tonkin (nee Baker). Loving father of Bruce and his wife Deb, and the late Eleanor Cassar. Loved grandpa of Steven, Dianne and her husband Andrew Johnson, and Kristina and great grandpa of Jerrel and Nathan Johnson. Dear brother of Ralph Tonkin of Vancouver, and the late Lloyd Tonkin. Bill will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his family and friends. Friends may call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East Oshawa, on Saturday February 17th from 7-9 pm. with a complete funeral service in the chapel of the funeral home on Sunday February 18th at 2 p.m. Private Interment at Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens, Whitby. Memorial Donations to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Durham Lung Association would be appreciated by the family. Loving grandmother of Ian and Amelia Meneilley and Margaret Johnston. Longtime employee of Bell Canada (retired). Leslie and his wife Lillie, and Norman and his wife Eleanor. Fondly remembered by her 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and by her sisters Agnes and Laura. WWII Veteran, Women's Royal Canadian Navy (WRENS) Peacefully, at Lakeridge Health Centre, Oshawa, on the 13th of February 2001. In her 80th year. Peggy is survived by her loving husband Slade, her loving daughters Margaret (Michel Poulin), and Mary (Jose Geraldo Gomide) and her dear granddaughter, Vivian. Also survived by her sister Jean Hanmer, of Kitchener. Predeceased by her parents, Frank and Margaret Light, and siblings Marshall, Nora and Edward. Peggy served in the Women's Royal Naval Service, attaining the rank of Leading Wren. She was a graduate of The University of British Columbia and Queen's University. Bishop Alfred Woolcock will conduct the funeral in the chapel of McIntosh-Anderson Funeral Home Ltd., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (433-5558) at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 16, 2001.
