passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family and friends on Sunday, May 5, 2002, on her 57th birthday, following a brave struggle with cancer. Much loved spouse of John Paine. Cherished mother of Eric, Scott, Cher and husband Adam Rogerson, and grandmother of Brooke. Dearly loved daughter of George and wife Hazel. She will be sadly missed by sisters Judy (Paul), Larraine (John), Marlene; brother Michael (Jenny), many nephews, nieces, best ''bud'' Patti Gallagher, and many friends. Predeceased by her loving husband Lawrence Red (2000) and her parents Arthur and Alma Virgin. Loving mother and best friend of her children, son Dana and his wife Julie Lynchock and daughter Karen and her husband Terry Stonebridge. She will be lovingly missed by her pride and joy, grandchildren Hayley, Alisha and Brandon Lynchock. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Susan at her home in Whitby on Saturday May 4, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. Loving mother of Peter and Deanna Cotter. ROBERTSON, Alexander Main -
passed away unexpectedly on May 4th, 2002 at Cobourg Ontario. Alex was born in Clive, Alberta on January 23, 1921. He lived most of his childhood in Scotland, and joined the Royal Navy in 1936. He served as a commando and frogman during WWII and saw extensive action in Norway, Malta, France, Holland and North Africa. After the war he served in Palestine until 1948. Alex married Doris Brand, his wife of nearly 56 years, in London, England, in 1946. Alex returned to Canada in 1956 and settled in the Beaches area of Toronto. He moved to Pickering in 1960 and became very active in the new community of Bay Ridges. In late 1960, Alex founded the News and Views, which very shortly became Pickering's Bay News, a newspaper which he owned until his retirement in 1988. Alex undertook many community projects for the benefit of both children and adults in the Pickering area, and worked assiduously with others to secure the construction of the Pickering Recreation Centre. He was awarded the Centennial Medal for his service to the community in 1967. In 1973, Alex became Regional Councillor for Ward 2 in Pickering, and won re-election almost continuously until his retirement from politics in 1988. He was a member of Doric Lodge in Ajax. Alex is survived by his wife, Doris, his children Peter and Ian, his grandchildren, Alexander and Sean, his brothers, Peter and George, and many cousins. There will be a private funeral followed by cremation on Wednesday, May 8, 2002. A public Memorial Service and Reception will be held at the McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at 1 p.m. Should family and friends so desire, remembrances to the Charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
