BIRCH, Winston Douglas -

Died Thursday October 3, 2002 at Oshawa, Ontario at the age of 82. Born in Roland, Manitoba, he is survived by his loving wife Libby and children Lois Carolyn and her husband Darryl Hogg, Robert James Birch, Michael Ross and his wife Wendy Birch, Elizabeth Ann Birch and her partner Hilary Rosen, and Jo-Ann Leigh Birch and her partner Kath Robinson. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer, Stephen, Jeffrey, Michelle, Anna, Jacob, and Brennan. Winston was a Squadron Leader serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943 to 1966. He was an aeronautical engineer, and retired as a professor from Durham College in 1985. He was an adventurous father and traveled widely with his family. He was wise and wild, gentle and reckless. Again in flight - he was ours, and will be missed. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa, on Saturday October 5th at 12 noon. Friends may visit with the family from 11am until service time. Memorial donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.

DELONG-Reta Laurene -

passed away at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Thursday October 3rd, 2002 in her 88th year. Dearly loved wife of the late Roy Delong. Predeceased by her son William and his wife Joan. Much loved grandmother of Pat and her husband Doug Andrews of Acton, Gary and his wife Cathy and David and his wife Karen all of Brookli.n, Audra and her husband Darrel Wright, and Nicole Charles all of Acton. Great Grandmother of Bill, Jennifer, Christopher, Andrew, Russell, Kristen, Zachary, and Jacob. Great Great Grandmother of Reid and Emma. Survived by her brother Ken Whitney and sister Audrey Wray both of Bowmanville. Predeceased by Merlyn, Cecil and Earl. Resting at MEMORIAL CHAPEL BROOKLIN 79 Baldwin Street Brooklin Village from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Service in the chapel Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at GROVESIDE Cemetery, Brooklin. Members of Kinoven Rebekah Lodge, # 353 Brooklin are asked to assemble in the chapel Sunday evening at 6:45 for service.

PRESLEY, Verda Lorraine -

At Hillsdale Manor on Thursday October 3rd, 2002. Verda Presley in her 87th year. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Jan Presley. Loving mother of Lorraine Ball & her husband John of Edmonton, Ruth Kauffeldt & her husband Rev. Glenn of Griffith, Sharon Crawford & her husband Jim of Trenton and Gordon Presley & his wife Donna of Cobourg. Predeceased by her son David Presley. Survived by her daughter-in-law Lynn Presley of St. Stephen, N.B. Sadly missed by 15 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Resting at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa with Funeral Service at Community Pentecostal Church on Tuesday October 8th at 1pm. Interment to follow at Mount Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations to Community Pentecostal Assembly, Building Fund would be appreciated. Visitation Monday 2pm to 4pm & 7pm to 9pm at the funeral home and Tuesday 1 hour prior to service time at the church.

BLAKE, Elizabeth Alexander (nee Clement) -

Departed peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the Lakeridge Health Centre, Port Perry on October 2, 2002. She was in her 75th year. For 55 years, Bette has been the beloved and devoted wife of Calvin Clair Blake. She is also survived by her brother James Clement and sisters Nance Pollard and Ina McQuaid all of Oshawa. Bette raised with love 6 children - Laurie (Walter) Senyk, Stephen (Gaynor) Blake, Graham (Mary) Blake, Leesa (Ian Jay) Blake, Leslie (Kevin) Bond, and Stuart Blake (predeceased). Fond memories of Grandma Blake will be shared for many years among her fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her neighbours along Coates Road, Port Perry, will also miss Elizabeth. Bette loved her gardens, the open spaces of the country and morning walks accompanied by her canine companions, Jenny and Sydney. Friends and family are invited to call at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King St. E., Oshawa, 905-433-4711 on Sunday, October 6th from 2:00-4:00 or 7:00-9:00 p.m. Services for Elizabeth will be celebrated there on Monday, October 7th at 1:00 p.m. with Interment to follow at Mount Lawn Cemetery next to Stuart Dawson Blake. In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth and her family would appreciate memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society. Rest in peace. Dance wi' the faeries.

BOURDEN, Isaac -

Peacefully passed away, on October 2, 2002, with his family by his side, at the Extendicare Nursing Home (Cobourg), at the age of 75. Beloved father of Gregory, Donna, Brian (Kathi), Mona, Andrew, Dianne, Barbara, and the late Lloyd. Loving grandfather of 11 grandchildren, also dear friend to Robert. The family will receive friends at the McEachnie Funeral Home, Ajax from 7-9 p.m. Friday. Sadly missed by nieces and nephews. Sister-in-law of Mary McDonald and predeceased by brother Clark McDonald. PURCELL, Stanley Joseph -

Born April 24, 1930. Toronto, passed away peacefully from illness at Campellford Memorial Hospital on October 2, 2002. His smile and brilliant blue eyes will be missed by family Olivia, Martin, Chris, Jenny and granddaughter Alexis. A craftsman, artist and musician who enjoyed sailing Frenchmannulls Bay. A welder for Local 128, who also contributed to the Pickering community since 1964. He enjoyed coaching hockey and was a kind, generous man, who you couldnnullt keep off the dance floor. He passed on his passion for the outdoors and a deep respect for nature to his children. Thanks Dad. He spent his last year being cared for lovingly at Ambrichey Manor in Hasting, ON. Thank you Darrin and Lee Anne Baldini, you brought him much joy. Memorial visitation to be held at the McEachnie Funeral Home, Ajax from 2 to 4 pm Sunday, October 6, 2002. Sister of Betty Stevenson, George Randall and the late Doug and Joe Randall. Remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Loving mother of Carolyn Gannon and Darlene Chevier. Fondly remembered by her 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Mrs. Cochrane will be resting at the W.C. HACKING, Samuel

In Peterborough on Tuesday, October 1, 2002, in his 73rd year. Son of the late Samuel and Annie Hacking; eldest brother of Robert (Australia), Trevor and David (London, England), and Jean (Edinburgh, Scotland), and cousin of Ruthie Tyrer (Middlesex, England). Retired member of the former Local 1655 I.B.E.W. (International Brotherhood of Electric Workers) and Local 894 I.B.E.W. Sam served in many capacities as an officer in both locals and was the manager of the Local 894 hockey team for 25 years. He was active in his community over the years, with the Canadian Scottish Club, the Peterborough Figure Skating Club, as Grandpa Sam the Muffin Man, and he was the neatest electrician you d ever meet. Sam is survived by his daughter Lesley Parnell and husband Don, his son Alan Hacking and wife Deborah, and was predeceased by their mother Elizabeth (nee Alexander). Forever cherished by his grandsons Adam, David, Andrew, and Matthew Parnell, and granddaughters Julie Parnell and Faith Hacking. Sammy Baby leaves behind many friends of all ages from around the world. He had a heart of gold, always a good (?) story to tell, and will be remembered very fondly by everyone in his life. Good Bye Daddy. We love you. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3, from 1-3 p.m. in the Chapel of the HIGHLAND PARK VISITATION/RECEPTION CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd. Service at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Anne Foster officiating. Interment in Little Lake Cemetery in a beautiful spot overlooking the fountain, followed by a reception back at Highland Park. At Lakeridge Health Port Perry on Tuesday, October 1, 2002. Loving wife of Boyd Herington of Kinmount.
