HUTCHINSON, Lew C. -
On September 19, 2002, at the age of 63, died peacefully and with dignity at home surrounded by his family after a determined battle with cancer. Be loved husband and best friend of Marilyn, Lew was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his sons Scot (Anne) and Grant, and granddaughters Amy and Maggie. He is also survived by siblings David (Ruby) of Duhamel Alberta, Roger (Moira) of Toronto and Connie (Dale) of Fort St. John, B.C. Named after his grandfather, a pioneer and a founder of the Alberta Wheat Pool, he grew up on the family homestead, 'Spruce Coulee', at Duhamel. He got his Bachelors and Master of Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Alberta. He moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1964 to begin his career in the steel industry. After a brief period with Stelco in Hamilton, he moved to Oshawa to work at Lasco Steel. During his 27 years at the plant, he moved up from the Plant Metallurgist to the President. He then moved to England as Managing Director of Sheerness Steel, a sister company of Lasco. In 1996 he moved back to Canada to the corporate office of CoSteel. In 1999, he retired as CEO of CoSteel. His favorite sports included golf, hockey, tennis, skiing, cycling, hiking and working out at the gym. With his love of travel, he was able to do many of these activities in far flung locales. His few years of retirement allowed him to play golf to his heart's content. The family would like to extend sincere thanks and our gratitude to Dr. Helen Pyle for her compas sion and excellent care. Thanks also to Yolanda Vanderlaan of the Saint Elizabeth Nurses and the Emergency Room Doctors and the staff of Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. Thanks also to oncologist Dr. Jennifer Knox and clinical nurse Massey Nemat the PMH and especially Dr. Allistair Cunningham and Dr. Claire Edmonds of the Healing Journey. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Kingsview Unit ed Church, 505 Adelaide Ave. E., Oshawa (905) 436-2000. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. Loving mother of James of Edmonton, Eleanor Mason-Beeke and her husband Henry of Oshawa, Murray and his wife Mary of Fort Erie, Gordon and his wife Janice of Brantford, Marilyn Bobee and her husband Ernie of Dixonville, AB, Jeanette and her husband the late Larry Kellet of Turin, AB and Marion Kiss and her husband John of Stony Plain, AB. Dear sister of Ken Smith and his wife Dorothy of London, Chris Landers of Kirkland Lake, Phyllis Smith and her husband Fred of Dundalk, and the late Bill and his wife Freda of North Bay. Also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Born May 19, 1926 in Glasgow, Scotland. Peacefully at home, on Thursday, September 19th, 2002, Ruby passed away with her family by her side. Loving wife of the late Alexander McKee. Loving and devoted mother of Brian; Linda; Elaine (Rick Salwonchuk); and will be sadly missed by dear friend, Barbara Wilson. Proud grandmother of Gregory, Cheri-Lynn, Lianne and Stacey; and great-grandmother of Treyton. Beloved sister of Alex Wallace, Margaret Duncan and Jean Reilly. Predeceased by siblings Joe Wallace and Maime Carlyle. Ruby will also be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
