Mrs. Commissioner Read was ''Promoted to Glory'' on Sunday, March 28, 2004 from her home in Whitby, Ontario. Doris was born on April 25, 1924 in Vancouver, B.C. She served actively for 44 years as a Salvation Army Officer, along with her late husband Edward (August 9, 2000). Mom is remembered lovingly by son Jim and his wife Laurie, daughter Gwen Penney and her husband Byron, son John and his wife Maxine, daughter Christine Carmichael and her husband Gary, and daughter Mary and her fiance Roy Horton, and predeceased by her daughter Paula (1967). Nana Read is also remembered with affection by her twelve grandchildren: Jeremy and his wife Kristin, Becky and her husband Kev Wood, Jeffrey and his wife Lori, Julia and her fiance Barry Bolt, Philip and his wife Aimee, Michael, Stephen, Jaclyn, Laura, Jason, Jennie and Brent; and her great-granddaughter Ceanray. Dear sister of Catherine, Frances, Chris and the late Edna. The way Mom loved people so warmly will be missed by many in addition to the immediate family.
