(Founder of the Mid-Town Boxing Club 1969-1986; started the Lift-Lock City Boxing Club in 1999, stepping down in 2003 due to serious health problems; was a founding member of Boxing Ontario; received several awards from the City of Peterborough, including Sportsman of the Year Award and is in the Boxing Hall of Fame; long-time member of Murray Street Baptist Church). BAJOREK, Jan Leszek
In his 76th year, dear husband of 45 years to Christine (Brearton), July 11, 2004 at Oshawa, Ontario. Dear father to Helen (Roy/Rob) MacDonald, John, Kasia (Danny) Langstaff, Edmund (Dianne), Joseph (Tracey), and Margaret (Ian) Armstrong, and special uncle and godfather to Lodzia ''Laurie'' (Gerry) Boyd. Dziadek to twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Born in Poland, Jan was the son of the late Wawrzyniec and Wiktoria (Kotowicz). He was a WWII survivor of a Soviet labour camp, and educated as a mechanic in South Africa. He was reunited with his family in Tanganyika and immigrated to Canada in 1949. Thirty year employee of General Motors. Member of Group 21 (Polish Alliance), Polish Veterans, Knights of Columbus, and Oshawa District Coin and Stamp Club. Donations to W. Reymont Foundation (for student scholarships), or Scarboro Missions. Dobra noc. R.I.P. BENNETT, Brook Alexander
Died at Lakeridge Hospital Oshawa, on Sunday July 11, 2004 in his 44th year, following a lengthy battle with colon cancer. He is survived by his wife Carolyn and son, Joshua of Whitby, Ontario; his father Murray Bennett of Charing Cross and Grandmother Mildred Bennett of Blenheim. Brook was predeceased by his mother, Beverly (MacKay) Bennett and his grandparents, Norman Bennett and Eric and Ruby MacKay. Brook was born in Victoria Hospital, London on April 15th, 1961, son of Murray Bennett and Beverly (MacKay) Bennett. He attended kindergarten in Peterborough. Brook's family returned to Charing Cross where he attended Harwich/Raleigh Elementary School and Blenheim District Secondary School. Brook moved to Toronto and enrolled at De Vry Institute of Technology graduating with his Electronic Technicians degree. Prior to his illness, he furthered his education at Durham College in Oshawa where he received his Microsoft and Cisco network certifications. Brook spent most of his working career servicing computers and computers networks. He was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002, but it was too far advanced, and recovery was not expected. He was able to enjoy and Alaskan cruise out of Vancouver with Carolyn. Westminster United Church in Whitby has been Brook and Carolyn's home church. This caring community of friends has been helpful in so many ways. Our sincerest thanks to Rev. Christopher White, Parish Nurse Gail Brimbecom, the members of the respite volunteer group, and all the parish members who have supported us during this difficult time. The Bennett family wish to extend their sincerest thanks to the doctors, nurses, and palliative care staff at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, to Tony Cheung, Social Worker at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, the dedicated volunteers at Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre, and J.L. Ford Funeral Home in Blenheim. A Funeral Service will be conducted from the Charing Cross United Church on Wednesday at 1:30 P.M. with Rev. Margaret Trapnell and Rev. David Steadman officiating. Cremation. Donations may be made in Brook's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Lakeridge Health Foundation.

CHAPMAN, Ronald Edward (Chappy)
passed away quietly after a courageous battle with cancer on Sunday July 11, 2004 at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. Ron in his 60th year, was the eldest of 4 children born to Alice (nee Williams) and the late Donald Chapman. Dear father of Shane & Trevor, and daughter in law Natalie. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Alexander and Adrianna. Dear brother of Allen & Veronica, Robert & Diane, and Denise & Mal. Dear uncle of Mike, Kelly, Jordan and Russell. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Complex Continuing Care Unit at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville for their extraordinary care and compassion. Dear brother of Mrs. Reta Stewart of Chipman, New Brunswick. Predeceased by his brothers Price , Ernest, Sterling and Donald. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Sylvia Beaudry of Brockville, Renee and her husband Paul Martin of Geneva, Switzerland and Michael Beaudry of Ottawa. Proud Great Grandfather of Matthew and Jason Beaudry of Ottawa. Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and by his caregivers in Peterborough, Jim and Liz Hutton. Born in Lower Derby, New Brunswick, he was the son of the late C.Spurgeon Amos and Ethel Price . Bliss served in the Canadian Armed Forces as a Captain with the Royal Canadian Artillery; in the militia in peacetime beginning in 1930, in England during World War II, and again on active duty from 1951 1961 serving in Korea, Japan, Camp Shilo, Man. and Camp Petawawa, On. Following his retirement from the military, he was a Funeral Director with the Comstock Funeral Home in Peterborough from 1965 to 1978. ATTFIELD, Raymond Peter
Suddenly and peacefully taken from our lives on Saturday, July 10th, 2004, in his 63rd year. He will be lovingly missed by his wife Gwen and his sons Paul and Kerry and his wife Shannon. Loving Papa of Connor and Raeanne. Ray will be sadly missed by his sisters Freda and husband George, Hazel and husband John. He will be greatly missed by all other members of his family including nieces, nephews and family in Cambridge, Ontario and all extended family living in England. Suddenly on Saturday July 10, 2004. In his 57th year. Willy, beloved father of Jeff, Krista and Marc. Remembered by Karen. Survived by many friends and family members both in Switzerland and North America. A service to celebrate his life will be held at the Udora Community Hall (24 Victoria Road, Udora) on Friday July 16, 2004 from 2-4 P.M.

SPRATT, Royal Vernon
passed away July 10th, 2004 in Westlock Alberta, at the age of 85, where he had been residing for 35 years. Born in Trenton, and resided in Oshawa for many years, Royal was a WWII veteran and a General motors retiree. He is survived by his three children. Burial ceremony will be held August 9th, 2009 at 11:00am at Union Cemetery, Oshawa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

ARMSTRONG, Jeffrey Stephen (Jeff)
Suddenly passed away early Friday, July 9th, 2004, at the age of 38. Beloved husband and best friend of Amanda (nee Pollard). Cherished and devoted father of Austin, Braedan, and a child-to-be. Treasured son of Gerald and Jacquie (nee Short). Dearly loved brother of Jerry and Patti, Paul and Leta, and Dayle and Doug Ross. A very special uncle to Ryan, Jarrod, Erin, Mark, Bradley, Wesley, Dayna, Andrea, Stephanie, Jordan, Victoria and Alexis. Much loved son-in-law of Mel and Julie Pollard. Dear brother-in-law of Tracey and Scott Arseneau. Will be forever adored by Gram Gegeny, and best friend Dan Goldsmith. KENNEDY, Linda Gail Patricia (Jones)
September 20th, 1944 July 8th, 2004. At the tender age of 59 after a courageous battle with cancer, Linda has finally found the peace and serenity she deserves. She left us at 1:35 P.M. on Thursday, July 8th, 2004, peacefully and in her own way at home surrounded by her loving family. Linda was the 10th of 11 children born to the late Joseph and Violet Jones. Predeceased by her oldest brother Jack, her sister Shirley and her brother David. Survived by sister Barbara, brothers Joseph, Duke, Frank, Jim, Fred and Stan. She will be sadly missed by many friends and extended families. Most of all missed dearly by her partner of 20 years, her husband Alexander (Al). A void will be left in the hearts of her 4 children, Mark and his wife Cynthia, Derek, Marika and her husband John and Ronnie and his wife Bridget. Forever and ever will be treasured by her grandchildren who were inspired by her, Tinika, Tanner, Kylee, Joey, Anika, Brodie and Mackenzie.
