Kelly was formerly a dedicated volunteer for the C.N.I.B, Lakeridge Health Corp.-Oshawa, Sunrise Youth Group and was also Mr. Secretary for his dad. Kelly was a member of the Oshawa Scrabble Club and enjoyed chess, exercise class and Tuesday night euchre at Wilmot Creek. He will be remembered by all of those whose lives he touched. After a lengthy illness Mildred passed away peacefully on Friday, January 21st, 2005 at Hillsdale Estates in her 96th year. Born in Oshawa July 1st, 1909; graduated in 1928 from Oshawa Collegiate. Mildred had a great love for music and received her AT.C.M. in 1933 and was a member of Simcoe Street United Church and Charter member of Lenore Unit of the United Church Women's Committee. Beloved wife of the late Ralph Herbert Jewell. Loving sister of Nellie Crombie (South Africa) and predeceased by sisters Marie Warren, Edna Horswill, and brothers Charles Johnston, Gordon Johnston and William Johnston. Survived by sister-in-law Margaret Johnston, Merl Jewell and Verda Jewell. Dearly loved by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and was a dear friend of Patty Quinn and her husband Bill. SMITH, Joan Ryan (nee Ryan)
July 23, 1932 - Jan. 21, 2005 Peacefully at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa following a short battle with cancer. Joan, an accomplished Ballerina at a young age, devoted her life to teaching ballet for a number of years in Lynbrook, New York before moving to Toronto in 1966, where she founded the Joan Ryan Smith School of Ballet teaching until her retirement in 2002, at the age of seventy. Also an avid miniaturist, Joan ran a small business from her home for 25 years, creating and marketing miniature pots, plants and flowers. "Ryan's Miniatures" stemmed from her love of gardening. Joan was a caring and kind-hearted woman who will be greatly missed by her children, Margaret (Maggie) Lynn, Stephen Smith (wife Deborah Koski), Eugene Smith (wife Sonja Liberati), her grand-children Jessica Lynn (fianc Brad Daronco), Gayle Smith, Nicholas Smith, Daesha Lynn and Teresa Lynn, her ex-husband and the father of her children Wilburt (Skip) Smith, her brothers Noel Ryan (wife Doreen), Michael Ryan (wife Jill) Fergus Ryan (wife Claire) Allan Ryan (wife Lynn) and her nieces and nephews. Joan and her family are grateful for the cherished, life-long friendship of Roberta (Bert) Solomon whom she met studying ballet in New York City as a young girl. Joan shared lots of laughs and good times with Bert and her family - husband Mac, sons Steven (Brooklyn, NY) and Scott Solomon (Austin, TX). VALLIS, Brenda Nancy Victoria (Keene, Ont.)
passed away on Friday, January 21, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit of Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Roger St. Site, with her husband at her side, at the age of 64 following a lengthy illness. Born in Ecum Secum, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Agnes (Pye) Ashton. She lost her hearing at the age of 18 months due to an illness. In her younger years she attended the School for the Deaf in Halifax. Following graduation she moved to Toronto and worked at Canada Post for 30 years. After retirement she moved to Keene, Ontario, with her husband Benjamin (Ben), who was formerly from Sydney, Cape Breton. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, her sisters Phyllis Morris, Janet Rudolph, her brother Ronald (Corinne) Ashton, all of Ecum Secum, N.S., and her brother Robert T. Ashton and sister-in-law Jennie Ashton of Halifax. Also missed by a number of nieces and nephews, and long-time best friend Lorraine MacDonald of Halifax. She was predeceased by her brother Stanley Ashton of Halifax and sister Maxine Matthews of Victoria, B.C. Friends may call at the HIGHLAND PARK VISITATION/RECEPTION CENTRE, 2510 Bensfort Rd.
