STEVENS, Frederick James - Passed peacefully away, after a short illness, at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Sunday, June 24, 2001, Frederick Stevens, aged 66 years. Predeceased by his first wife Rita in 1983. Leaving to mourn are his wife Loretta Tilley; his children: Sharon Wadden (Paul), Barry (Jane) and Heather Richards (John); grandchildren: Stephanie and Mandy Wadden, Kathleen Stevens, Mike and Evan Richards; brothers: Levi, Alex (Marie), Charlie (Clara), Gilbert (Shirley), Eric (Pauline) and Lew (Sharon); sisters: Mary Noseworthy (Lew) and Florence Stevens; mother-in-law Blanche Chancey; brothers-in-law: Bob Chancey, Wayne Chancey (Liz), Bill Walsh (Peg) and Harold Walsh (Rochelle); sisters-in-law: Shirley Fraize (Bob), Joyce Emberley (Ralph) and Bertha Stevens; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. FINN, Brendan M. - 80. died Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at home, Pawley`s Island, S.C., U.S.A. Mr. Finn was born in St. John`s, NL on July 29, 1922, the son of the late Michael John Finn and Catherine A. Murphy Finn. He retired as a Liability Engineer with General Motors Corp. after thirty years of service. Mr. Finn moved to Pawley`s Island in 1983, where he was a member of Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Sea Gull Golf Club, the Three County Seniors Golf Assn., and the Grand Strand Grasshopper Club. Survivors include his wife Kathleen 'Kitty' A. Finn of Pawley`s Island, S.C.; a daughter, Maureen M. Finn of New York, N.Y.; two sons: James M. Finn and his wife Noreen of Rochester Hills, Mich. and Brendan P. Finn of Pawley`s Island, S.C.; two granddaughters: Mary Frances Finn and Peggy Finn; two sisters: Mary F. Enright of Long Island, N.Y. and Angela Power of St. John`s, NL; three brothers: John Finn and Michael Finn, both of St. John`s, NL and Joseph Finn of Cincinnati, OH and numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be Saturday morning, April 5, 2003 at ten-thirty o`clock at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Patrick J. Stenson. CLEARY, Thomas Joseph - 73. Passed peacefully away in his home in St. John`s, NL on Friday, November 28, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Bishop`s Falls, NL, and predeceased by his parents Thomas and Anne Cleary, brothers Jim and Kevin, and sister Helen Corbett. Leaving to mourn his loving family: devoted wife Celeste; daughters Colleen (Michael Kavanagh) of Mississauga and Sonya (Tony Mackey) of St. John`s; precious grandchildren Heather and Laura Kavanagh and Jason and Timothy Mackey; sister Joan Griffen of Gander; sisters-in-law Emma (Kevin Pike) of St. Lawrence, Mary Cleary and June Cleary, both of Halifax; brother-in-law George (Dougie) Paul of Halifax; and a large circle of relatives and his very special friends. The family wishes to especially acknowledge Dr. Patrick O`Shea for his years of care and for making Tom`s wish to remain at home possible, and all the wonderful nurses and doctors who treated him during his illnesses, especially the staff at the Cancer Centre, Dr. Fiona O`Shea, and the Palliative Care Team. Tom was retired from CN Police, was a member of the RCMP Veteran`s Association, and a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus. RYAN, Kevin A. - passed away suddenly at St. John`s on April 13, 2001, aged 50 years, Kevin Anthony Ryan formerly of St. Brendan`s and Fermeuse. Predeceased by his parents Josephine and Gregory Ryan and grandparents-in-law Nan and Pop Smith and Nan Kelland. Leaving to mourn: his loving wife and best friend Shirley (nee Kelland), precious children Gregory, Erin, and Sara whom he cherished dearly. Also brothers Tom (Jomie), Dennis (Judy) and Ron; sister Elizabeth (Bess) Hollett. Also, parents-in-law Peter and Sarah Kelland (Gander), brother-in-law Ted Kelland (Carol), sisters-in-law Dianne (John) Warren, and Peggy (Wayne) Holley, and many nieces and nephews. Kevin will be missed by his many friends and relatives. Kevin was a first a loving family man and was a devoted and beloved teacher at Virginia Park Elementary. He touched his students` lives and was deeply touched by the passing of three of his special students - R.J. Puddicombe, Robbie Hryviw, and Stephanie Greeley. Kevin was a caring nurse and advocate for his children at the Janeway. Beyond the classroom and the hospital, he made time to guide children as a scout leader, a school counsellor, a soccer and basketball coach. For himself, Kevin found time for floor hockey, bicycling, and running. Special thanks to Irene Barry, Susan Doyle, and David Molyneux, who shared his last good run. He`ll finish his marathon in heaven. Kevin is resting at Caul`s Funeral Home on LeMarchant Road. Visitation hours are from 7-10 p.m. Saturday evening; 2-4 and 7-10 p.m. Sunday and Monday. Funeral services will take place at St. Mark`s Anglican Church at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment at the Anglican Cemetery, Kenmount Road. PEDDLE, Alice (Stokes) - passed away on Monday, April 9th, 2001 after a lengthy illness, Alice (Stokes) Peddle, in her 77th year. Predeceased by her first husband Albert Stokes. CANNING, Bride - Passed peacefully away at the Oceanview Personal Care Home in Trepassey, on Wednesday, December 18, 2002, aged 71 years, of Ferryland. Predeceased by her husband, Michael. LANGER, McDOW - Mr. Raymond Douglas McDow age 68 years of Toledo Street passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 1, 2003. Doug was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia in 1935 and was raised there on his parent`s farm. While there, Doug attended trade school, becoming a pipefitter and then joining the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union in 1959. Later in 1964 Doug marriage his wife Alberta and they have enjoyed the last 39 years together. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Alberta, his brother Bernard (Maxine) McDow, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Doug was predeceased by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 6, 2003 at 2:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma with Father P. M. BASTOW, David Alan - passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, August 3, 2003 at St. Clare`s Hospital, David Bastow, aged 77. Youngest son of the late Hugh Alan and Mabel Bastow. Predeceased by his beloved wife Susannah (Parsons) and by his brother Gerald H. Beloved father of Andrea (Nevin Sivers) Bracebridge, Ontario and Philip (Janice) of Toronto, and loving grandfather to Mark Bastow. Also leaving to mourn two sisters: Ruth Miller (Herb) and Eileen Martin (Graham); two brothers: Gordon J. (Mardi) and Douglas (Elizabeth); cherished friend of both his late wife and David, Phyllis Hamlyn (Moncton); and by many nieces and nephews throughout the province and nation. David touched many people with whom he sang including The Anglican Cathedral Choir, The St. John`s Choir, The Cathedral Echoes Choir, The Wesley Men`s Choir and many other informal groups throughout his life. THORNE, Fredrick, B. - (1919-2002) Passed peacefully away October 16, 2002 at the Memorial Hospital, Rye, Sussex, England, Fredrick B, Thorne (Fred), age 82 years. Served with the 59th Newfoundland Heavy Regiment of the Royal Artillery in England and from the beaches of Normandy into the heart of Germany. Predeceased by his sisters: Verna (Hemmens) Thorne (1999), and Margaret (Rogers) Thorne (2000), and twin brother Bertram Thorne (1999), all of St. John`s. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife: Joyce; sons: Donald (Ann) and Richard (Wendy); brother: Carson (Shirley); sister: Grace Luby; and four grandchildren; and one grandchild; a large circle of nephews, nieces, and friends; three sisters-in-law: Beryl Broomfield, of Beckley, (sister of wife Joyce); Mary Thorne (widow of Bertram); and Shirley Thorne (wife of Carson). ROBINSON, Bridget T. - Passed peacefully away after a brief illness at the Carbonear General Hospital on Monday, October 6, 2003, surrounded by her loving family, Bridget Robinson in her 88 year. Predeceased by her husband, Norman J. Robinson (1999). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories one son, Jack (wife Iris); three grandchildren: John (friend Kelly Kent), Jill, Cathy, fianc' (Robert Cple); one special great-granddaughter, Rhegan. WHALEN, Gladys (nee Peddle) - Passed peacefully at the Dr. Walter Templeman Hospital, Bell Island, March 31, 2002, age 54 years. Leaving to mourn her husband Albert; two sons: Joe (Hazel), John (Barb), both at Timberly, Nova Scotia; two grandsons: Jonathan and Brandon; four granddaughters: Natasha, Nicole, Chantelle and Autumn; one sister Emma Martin (Jim), Bunyan`s Cove; one brother Albert (Mary), Nova Scotia; two nieces: Brenda and Michelle; one nephew Travis, as well as, many other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. A Vigil will be held at St. Cyprian`s Church on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 from 9 a.m. through to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery. MARTIN, Mary Josephine (Clancey) - Passed peacefully away at St. Luke`s Nursing Home on February 4th, 2004, Mary Josephine Martin, aged 88 years. Predeceased by her husband Brendan, November 9, 1991. Leaving to mourn with loving memories, her daughters: Brenda Crotty (Paul), Marie Hollett (Wayne); sons: Kevin (Diane), Richard (Sandy); nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother John; sister Kay Stever (Frank); also a large circle of friends and relatives. STRICKLAND, Violet (nee Smith) - passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit, Leonard A. Miller Centre on December 3, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer, Violet Strickland of Mt. Pearl, age 72. Born in Gooseberry Cove, T. Bay, she is predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Eliza Smith, brother George and sister Florance (Wicks). Leaving to mourn husband Selby, daughter Dawn (Steve), son Paul (Lorraine), sister Maise (Hector Ploughman), brothers Bax (Jean) and Jim (Ann); five cherished grandchildren: Alana, Mark, Benjamin, Stephen and Kandice; special niece Velma (Dave Brown); also, a large circle of other relatives and friends. STURGE, Margaret (nee Rice) - After a long and courageous battle with diabetes and kidney disease, Margaret passed peacefully away on Aug. 3, 2003 at Chancellor Park where she had been resident since May 2002. Margaret was 71 years old. Beloved wife of the late Franklyn Sturge, Margaret is survived by her dearly loved and devoted son Derrick and daughter-in-law Paula. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends who shared in her life, including her sisters Marie (Mel) and Maureen, and her brother Frank (Lorraine). A special thank you to all those who cared and supported her over the last several months including the caring staff at Chancellor Park, Jim and Ollie McDonald and Marina Osborne. BUTT, John Gordon - passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 28, 2000, John Gordon Butt. Aged 60 years. Predeceased by his sister Phyllis Butt; and father Gordon Butt. Leaving to mourn with fond memories, his loving wife Loretta (nee Shaw); three precious daughters: Lisa Butt (fiancee James Higgins), Lucinda Bradbury (Keith) and Krista Fowler (Darren); mother Hilda Butt; brother Kevin Butt (Paulette); sister Marie Butt; mother-in-law Ethel Shaw; brothers-in-law: George Shaw (Jenny), Robin Shaw (Geraldine); sister-in-law Patricia Smith (Oscar); also a large number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Resting at Barrett`s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, from 7-9 p.m. Friday; and 10 a.m. - 12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Funeral Service to be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2000 from the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Anglican Church, Craigmillar Avenue. Interment to follow at the General Protestant Cemetery, Waterford Bridge Road. As expressions of sympathy, flowers gratefully accepted or donations may be made to a charity of one`s choice.

DORAN, Evelyn Mary - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Monday, October 02, 2000, Evelyn Mary Doran (nee French), aged 89 years. Predeceased by husband Daniel in 1978. Leaving to mourn her sad loss, sons: Jim (Elizabeth), Torbay, John (Ursula), Toronto, Dan (Sis), Logy Bay, Paddy, Toronto, Dick (Janet), Outer Cove; daughters: Mary Pauba, New York, Lucy Conway (Fred), St. John`s, Ruby Hickey (Dennis), Outer Cove, Ethel Hogan, St. John`s; sisters: Stella Antle (Max), Florida, Lucy French, St. John`s; brother James (Lizzie), Coley`s Point; 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Resting at Caul`s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Rd. Visitation Tuesday 2-10 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. Funeral Mass on Thursday, October 5th at 10:30 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Outer Cove. Interment at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Outer Cove.
