BERGSTROM, Leslie Katherine (nee Gill)
(Head of English Department at R. S. McLaughlin C.V.I.) passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005 at her family home in Whitby with her loving husband Michael Babier by her side. Since the diagnosis of her illness in December, Leslie spent the majority of her time at home and enjoyed many quality moments with her daughter, Amy, her son, Dane, and her stepson, Aaron. Leslie is predeceased by her father, Laurence Gill and her mother, Gina Simpson-Gill, both of Peterborough. During her long teaching career, first at Central Collegiate and then at M.C.V.I., Leslie made a significant impact on all who knew her staff and students alike. Leslie s family would like to express their heart felt appreciation to Leslie s closest friends, and the extended Bergstrom and Babier families who offered unfailing support. They would also like to acknowledge the exceptional care provided by many personal support workers, nurses, hospice volunteers and the Lakeridge Health-Oshawa palliative care team. DRINKLE, Dorothy Evelyn Frances (nee Reinkoester)
Peacefully at Fairview Lodge on August 23rd, 2005, in her 86th year. Dorothy was born September 28, 1919, in Owen Sound, Ontario. Second daughter of Frederick and Ethel (nee Beard) Reinkoester. In 1927 her family moved to Oshawa. She attended Ritson Road School and Oshawa Collegiate and Vocational Institute. After high school, she worked at Ideal Fish and Chips, and then later, during World War II, The Pedlar People Ltd. She met Norman John Allen (Jack) Drinkle, and they were married on July 5, 1941. Dorothy lived on Verdun Road for 78 years, 64 of those after marrying Jack. In 1951 they celebrated the birth of their only child, Susan Frances. Susan married Thomas Brown, and gave Dorothy 2 lovely grandchildren: Jeffery David (1976), and Kathleen Claire (1980). Dorothy is the sister of Mrs. Ethel Yeo (late Arthur), the late Mrs. Jean Dix (Frank), Mrs. Winnifred Masters (Lloyd), Mrs. Dorothy Van Bruggen (late John), and the late Ronald Reinkoester (Judy). Dorothy also has many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Thursday August 25th, 2005 from 12:30pm until time of service at 2:30pm. Interment Mount Lawn Memorial Gardens in Whitby, Ontario. Donations made in memory of Dorothy to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, or Charity of your choice. FARIA, Karen (nee O'Brien)
passed away after a short illness on August 23, 2005 at the age of 43. Karen was born and raised in St. Catherines. She graduated for the Grantham high school and attended McMaster University and Brock University. She was most recently employed by General Motors Oshawa. Devoted daughter of Don and Hester O'Brien of St. Catherines. Cherished sister of Don and his wife Jennifer of Whitby. Proud aunt of Alexander. Fondly remembered by best friends Cheryl, Janice and Gail. Will be missed by many family members, friends, and cherished dog Gibson (Gibby). Peacefully at Strathaven Life Care Center on August 23rd, 2005. Glen at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Eleanor. Loving father of Wesley (Lesley), Stuart and Barry (Christine). CARUSO, Michelle Linda (nee Beauvais)
passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Monday August 22, 2005. Michelle at age 37. Beloved wife and friend of Jason. Dear mother of Tyler & Meagan. Daughter of Roger & Linda Beauvais. Sister of Darlene & her husband Neil, and their children Jesse, Jamie and Jody, and Bradley & his wife Denise Beauvais and their daughter Emily. Sadly missed by her mother in law Sheila Cudmore, and Tom Moore. She will be truly missed by all of the Caruso family and friends. Michelle will be dearly missed by Sherry, Sue, Vern, and her big brother Brian. Rested at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. GOFFIN, Maureen Elizabeth (NEE Davidson)
Loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Monday, August 22, 2005 at the age of 54 after a long and dignified battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband Brian Goffin and father Craig Davidson; Maureen is survived by her loving family: daughters Julia and Hilary; son David; granddaughters Sydney and Vanessa; mother Irma Davidson; sister and best friend Meg Woods; brother Craig Davidson; several brothers- and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. Maureen was born and raised in Toronto, ON. She moved to La Ronge, SK with husband and young son in 1975. It was in La Ronge that her daughters were born, and that many of her closest friendships were forged. After Brian s death she returned to Ontario, settling in Whitby in 1996. Maureen enjoyed learning bridge and indulging in her passion for golf and developed many new friendships. Maureen will be remembered for her wry wit and desire to live life to the fullest. Family was extremely important to Maureen and she loved nothing better than spending time with her grandbabies. Her children will always be grateful for her support and unconditional love. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten by those she left behind. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2005 at ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME 124 King Street Oshawa, Ontario. Family will receive friends and relatives at 12:00, service at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.

passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on August 22, 2005 in his 100th year. Loving husband of Claris. Beloved father of Dalbert (Shirley), Grace, Joan and Audrey. Cherished grandfather of 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Aubrey will be sadly missed by many other family members and friends. passed away peacefully on August 21, 2005 at Lakeridge Health - Oshawa. Beloved wife of the late Carlos. Loving mother of Jose (Rosa Maria) and Helena (Jorge). Zoila grew up in Macau where she was a school and music teacher, choir director and organist. At the age of 67 she became an oil painter and produced beautiful art. passed away peacefully, at Lakeridge Health Corporation, Oshawa, on Sunday, August 21, 2005, Vern, in his 85th year. Beloved husband of Mary Freeborn and the late Marion Freeborn. Dear father of Carol and her husband Paul Secord, Gail and her husband Tom Caswell, Chris Hobin, Michael Hobin, Dan and his wife Jasmine Hobin. He will be truly missed by his grandchildren Colin and Erin Reed, Kaitlin and Ryan White, Joshua and Jacob Caswell, Eric and Justin Hobin. Survived by his sisters Loretta Harper and June and her husband Mel Norman. Vern was a life member and Past President of the Durham Chapter Society of Management Accountants of Ontario. At the time of Vern's passing he was the Treasurer of the Volunteer Association of the Whitby Mental Health Association and the former Financial Officer of the WMHA. Peacefully after a hard fought battle with cancer on Sunday, August 21st, 2005. Jerry in his 56th year. Survived by his wife of 36 years Janet Van De Bunte. Husband, father, grandfather, brother and kindest of all kind things. Peacefully passed away, following a short illness and a wonderful 85 years of life. (Owner of Ritson Tile & Carpet, Oshawa) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Jack Oliveira after a brief but courageous battle with lung cancer. Jack passed away peacefully with his family by his side in the Palliative Care Unit, Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on August 19th, 2005 at the age of 63. He leaves behind his devoted wife Natalia, his daughters Susana Pereira (Joe), Ana Mafalda Galea (Mario) and his son Alex Oliveira. He will be deeply missed by his cherished granddaughters Amanda, Megen and Olivia. Predeceased by his parents Francisco and Leonor Oliveira of Coruche, Portugal and Chico Oliveira of Brazil. He is survived by his brother Antonio Oliveira (Gracinda). He will be sadly missed by many family, friends and business associates. Peacefully, on August 19, 2005, at the Rouge Valley Health System, Centenary Site, at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late John Tomlinson. Survived by daughter Brigitte (Bill). Treasured Omi of Monica and her husband Frank, their children Jade and Jakob; and Lisa-Rae and her son Carson. Eleonore is a very special lady who will be dearly missed by her many close friends.
