WITT, Laszlo (Leslie)
Peacefully at Sunnybrook Medical Centre, Toronto on Tuesday, December 27, 2005. Laszlo (Leslie) Witt of Toronto, in his 73rd year. Husband of the late Viola Witt. Dear father of Sylvia and her husband Jim Sankey of Winnipeg. Dear brother of Eva and her husband Laci Reti of Montreal. Survived by family in Europe. Terribly missed by his extended family Pascal and Evita Richer of Toronto, and by his AVIS family. As a youth, Leslie was considered a chess prodigy. After emigrating from Hungary with his family in 1956, he continued to play chess internationally. In 1962, 1963, 1965, and 1967, he was Quebec Open champion, and in 1962 he was Canadian Open champion with a rare perfect score. He was a member of the Canadian team at the World Chess Olympiads in 1964 (Tel Aviv), 1966 (Havana), and 1970 (Siegen, Germany). In 1969, he was recognized as an International Master. In later years, he enjoyed playing backgammon and painting in watercolours, where he was considered a gifted amateur by his teachers. Cremation followed by private family funeral. Memorial donations to the Chess Federation of Canada would be appreciated by the family. HENDERSON, Frederick
(also known as The Gravenhurst Town Whistler) passed away peacefully in his sleep just after midnight December 26th, 2005 at Scarborough Grace Hospital, after a short illness, in his 92nd year. Fred was born in Gravenhurst, Ontario on October 14th, 1914, and was predeceased by his dedicated wife Alice Myrtle Henderson (nee Dawe) in 1995; his older brother George in 1994; mother Alice Victoria Henderson (nee Harrold) in 1961; and father George Sr. on March 22nd, 1922. Fred worked 30 years at General Motors Canada, Oshawa until his retirement in 1974. Fred and Alice are survived by their children Grant F. Michael Henderson and Linda of Kitchener, Wayne G. Henderson and wife Linda of Bowmanville, Paul W. Henderson and wife Liz of Oshawa, Beverley A. Beamish and husband Mark of Woodville, Lyle E. Henderson and wife Linda of Oshawa, as well as many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. TREEN, Patricia Anne (nee Lowe)
July 1st, 1944 – December 23rd, 2005 passed away surrounded by her loving family at Lakeridge Health-Oshawa on Friday, December 23rd, 2005 at the age of 61. Pat was born in Oshawa and spent her childhood in Whitby. She married Jim, the love of her life on April 28th, 1961 and was blessed with five children. The family lived throughout the Durham Region and as far as Kingston to settle in Oshawa again. She was more than proud of her family and eleven beloved grandchildren. Pat enjoyed travelling, casinos, bingo and her many friendships throughout the years. Pat leaves to mourn her loss, her devoted husband Jim of forty-four years; her son James (Vicki) Treen of Bowmanville, John (Jacquie) Treen of Newtonville, Joseph Treen of Oshawa, Judith (John) MacDonald of Courtice, Brian (Kimberley) Treen of Bowmanville and her eleven precious grandchildren, Madison, Zachary, Amanda, Sarah, Michelle, Juliana, Coray, Jamie Lynn, Kaitley, Briley and little Charley Anne, along with her brother William (Baugie) Lowe of Exeter, Pennsylvannia, John (Ruby) Lowe of Brooklin, sister Mary Hoover of Guelph, sister in-laws Alberta of Hobe Sound, Florida, and Doris Marco of Whitby.
