Death, Burial, Cemetery & Obituaries

Boyd, Kenneth James passed away suddenly on December 26, 2002. He was born May 18, 1953 in Kelowna, B.C. Son of Morley and the late Grace Boyd. Survived by son Jared of Ottawa, brother Don Varney of Nanaimo, several cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial will be held January 25th at 11:00am, at the home of Morley Boyd.

Elliott, A.J. (Jack): Of Kelowna, passed away peacefully and quietly in his home in Kelowna with his family by his side on January 18, 2003 in his 99th year. Arrangements are pending.

Lewis, Ralph Stevenson Born April 15, 1912 at Clayton, B.C. passed away peacefully, Jan. 19 at Kelowna Hospital. He was in the loving care of many family members for the days preceeding and the moment of his passing. He is predeceased by Ina, his wife of 63 years and his son Ralph. He is survived by his daughter Margaret (Ken) Van Haar, son Jim (Lucie) Stevenson, daughter-in-law Denise Stevenson, six grandchildren Karen (Dale), Russell (Kari), Linda (Ron), Christine (Jules), Jennifer (Jaret), and Joanne (Alan), and nine great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Marion Reed and brother Phil (Thelma). No memorial service will be held. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Heart & Stroke Fund or Cancer Society.

Mannarino, Joseph (Joe): passed away suddenly on January 19, 2003 after a lengthy illness. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 51 years, Nellie and his family; Tom (Monica) of Edson, AB, Vicki (Bruno) of White Rock, B.C., Cindy (Gordon) of Airdrie, AB, Jim (Betty) of Fernie, B.C., Carol (Bud) of Sidney, B.C., Tony (Margaret) of Golden, B.C.; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, January 22, 2003 from the Chapel of Valleyview Funeral Home, 165 Valleyview Road, Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Lung Assoc., 2675 Oak Street, Vancouver, B.C. V6H-2K2. Funeral arrangements entrusted to VALLEYVIEW FUNERAL HOME- 765-3147

Manning, Thomas Samuel: Passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord, Saturday, January 18, 2003 at the South Granville Park Lodge, Vancouver at the age of 91. He was predeceased by Olive, his wife of 61 years, March 2001. He leaves to mourn; sons: Glen (Joyce), Ron (Gail); grandchildren: Greg (Rachel) in Virginia, Heather (Roger) Goertzen in Airdrie, Alberta, Michael (Sheralyn) and great grandson Ryan in Vancouver; brother Charlie Manning in Kamloops as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. There will be a graveside service at Canyonview Cemetery, Summerland on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. followed by a memorial service to celebrate his life at the Kelowna Alliance Church, 2091 Springfield Rd., Kelowna in the afternoon at 2:30 P.M. MCKAY, JOSEPH CLARENCE 'JOE' passed away on Monday, January 20, 2003 at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Myroslava (Myra); three daughters: Joan Shaw of Prince George, BC, Judianne Seymour of Kelowna, Juanita Windels (Rolf) of Winfield; three sons: Harvey McKay (Marg) of North Vancouver, Brian Brown of Calgary, Kelly McKay of Calgary; seventeen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters: Lena Erickson of Powell River, Mary (Hattie) Bear of Birch Hill, SK and brother Walter McKay (Mabel) of Vernon. Predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11:00 am at the Chapel of Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC with Interment to follow in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. SLOAN, GLADYS OLGA (nee WHITE) of Kelowna passed away on January 18, 2003 at the age of 88. She is survived by her loving husband Roy of 64 years and three daughters, Barb and husband Phil of Kelowna, Betty and husband Geoff of Calgary, and Peggy of Toronto; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Blink and wife Bette of Ashcroft, sister-in-law Ivy of Richmond, and nieces and nephews. Gladys was born in Abernethy, Saskatchewan on July 17, 1914 and moved to the the West Coast with her family in 1927. She and Roy were long time residents of White Rock and members of the Semiahmoo Fish and Game Club until their move to Kelowna in 1989. No service (by request). Should family and friends so desire memorial donations may be made to B.C. Children's Hospital.

CUTHBERT, MARGARET (PEGGY) went to be with the Lord on Tuesday January 21, 2003 at the age of 80. Survived by her loving family: one daughter Janice (Brian) Bestward of Kelowna, one son Jim (Clara) Cuthbert of Victoria, five grandchildren: Jim Cuthbert, Deanna Cuthbert, George (Lisa) Cuthbert, Roberta (Reg) Swan, Cheryl (Geoff) Coulter, eight great grandchildren: Evan and Carys Swan, Michael & Tyler Coulter, Jennine and Jason Yarmie, Chloe and Hunter Cuthbert, one sister Janet McCallum of White Rock, two brothers: Dave (Hattie) Close of Fort St. John, Marshall (Aleatha) Close of Kelowna and several nieces and nephews. Sadly predeceased by her husband George in 1998, her parents, two sisters, and three brothers. Peggy was born April 30, 1922 in Kinross, Scotland to Tom and Mary Close. She moved to Canada in 1929, marriage George in 1939, resided in the Peace River District until 1982 when they moved to Kelowna. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday January 25, 2003 at 1:30 pm from Evangel Tabernacle-Heritage Room, 3261 Gordon Drive, with Reverend Schmunk officiating. Interment to follow in Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. Schneider, Rosalie Ernestine On January 15, 2003 Rosalie Ernestine Schneider of Leduc, Alberta formerly of the Lutheran Manor, Kelowna, B.C. passed away at the age of 89 years. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, January 24, 2003 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Valleyview Funeral Home. Haskett, Yvonne Barbara (Lovey) passed away peacefully at the age of 81 in Kelowna General Hospital January 20th, 2003 surrounded by her family while listening to the piano music she so loved. Born on August 5th, 1921 in Okanagan Mission, Lovey was an accomplished Pianist and freely shared her passion for music. She will be remembered with much joy for her love of life, her wonderful sense of humour, and the beauty of her flower gardens. Her door was always open and she welcomed so many into her home and her heart. She will be sadly missed by her husband William G. Haskett and her children and (grandchildren); Tina Shields (Duncan & Brodie), Trish Perkins (Karen & Danica), Maureen & Gord Savage (Danny & Cassandra), Denise Haskett (Nathan & Jesse), Matt & Sue Haskett (Andrew & Kendra), her sister Win Horn and many loving family members and friends. Ingram, Ronald McKenzie: Late of Westside, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2003 in the Kelowna General Hospital, at the age of 89 years. JESSOP, LLOYD TILLMAN We regret the passing of Lloyd on January 20, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife Lena, son Tom and grandchildren Alayna and Jeremy. He is also survived by his brothers George (Grace), Ray (Ruth) and his twin brother Floyd (Winnifred) and sisters Gladys and Vivian and many nieces and nephews. he was predeceased by his father Samual and mother Josephine and his brother Curly and sisters Margaret and Ruby. He was born on February 17, 1924 in Cardston, Alberta. he has since been a long time resident of Kelowna and well know in the fruit industry, both in Canada and New Zealand, where he opened the first Kiwi Packing plant in 1973. He served in the army in Sept. 1940 in the 2nd Battalion of the Canadian Scottish Regiment and returned to Canada in 1945. Special thank-you to Dr. Canning. Plant, (Nee Thompson) Linda: passed away in Kelowna, B.C. on Saturday, January 18th, 2003 at the age of 54. She is survived by her loving husband Dave; daughters Leslie and Shelley; son-in-law Mark and granddaughter Maggie. She also leaves behind brothers Mike (Wendy) and Ron (June). Linda was well known for her kindness as well as her feistiness. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2003 at 7:00pm at First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Ave in Kelowna. ARNOLD, ARTHUR M., late of Winfield, B.C. Art passed away January 17, 2003, in the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 92. He was born March 7th, 1910 in Bellville Ontario, moving to Winfield at the age of three. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel in 2000 and his daughter Shirley Haskins in 1997. He is survived by his loving family: Barbara Dapavo (Michael), Norman (Edie), Frank, all of Kelowna, and Laurie Davis (Rhett) of Orlando Florida. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his brother George of Oliver BC, and many nieces and nephews. Art was the local historian and with his sharp mind he was able to recall many stories of early days in Winfield and the surrounding area. Art was a hard working, independent man who lived in his home until his death. He will be remembered for his patience fairness, honesty, compassion and love for his family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 25th at 11 am in the Winfield Catholic Church, O.K. Center Rd E. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation. Valleyview Funeral Home intrusted with the arrangements.
