After a courageous battle against cancer, at Lakeridge Health Corp. Oshawa, on Sunday, September 30, 2007. Len, died peacefully surrounded by his family, at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Betty (nee Barta) for 57 years. Loving and devoted father of Lorrie Byrne and her husband Thomas Uhlig, Lynda and her husband Charles Holla, John and his wife Lori Byrne, all of Oshawa, Tom and his wife Diana Byrne of Courtice and late infant son John Michael. Proud and cherished grandfather of Jan Willoughby, Kristyn and Chantalle Byrne, Marise, Roselle and Timara Uhlig, Mark (Crystal) and Matthew Holla. Great-grandson Nolan brought many smiles and joys to his “Big Grandpa” over the past 2 years. Brother of Audrey (Al) Moring, and predeceased by Margaret Lindsey, Electa McLaughlin, Frank Byrne and Mary Marshall. Special brother-in-law of Earl Marshall. Relatives and friends will be received at the McINTOSH-ANDERSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King St. E., Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m and Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY CROSS ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 373 Simcoe St. S., Oshawa, on Friday, October 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Len to the “Oshawa Hospital Foundation, R.S. McLaughlin” New Durham Regional Cancer Centre or the Princess Margaret Hospital would be appreciated by his family.

FINE, Daniel
September 5, 1934-September 30, 2007 - After a long and challenging battle with lymphoma, Dan passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the Lakeridge Health, Oshawa. Born in New York City, New York he moved to his current home in Siloam in 1975. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sylvia (nee Balz) and the pride of his life, his son Mark of Minneapolis, his daughter-in-law Amy and his only grandchild Elliott. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law Patty, Rhia, Leona and Renee. His brothers-in-law Joe, Roger, Peter and all of his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered by his mother- in-law Irene. He will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

FINLAYSON, Lawrence Kay
passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on Sunday September 30th, 2007. Beloved husband of Lynn Finlayson. Dear father of Lorie & Steve Wharmby and Leanne & Flaviano Mastrangelo. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Christina, Dylan, Alex & Tyler. A Family Service was held in the Chapel at the NORTHCUTT ELLIOTT FUNERAL HOME, 53 Division St. N. Bowmanville. O’NEILL, Maria Mary
Peacefully, after a courageous battle with Cancer at Lakeridge Heath, Oshawa on Sunday September 30, 2007, Maria O’Neill (nee McCann), at 45 years of age. Devoted wife of Brendan O’Neill and loving mother of Fiona and Claire. Dear daughter of James and the late Doris McCann. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters Debra and June, her brother Tony and her extended family and many friends. Maria is predeceased by her brother Kenneth. passed away peacefully on Sunday September 30, 2007 at Lakeridge Health Port Perry at 81 years of age. Loving mom of George and his wife Marion of Cambridge and Ian and his partner Angela of England. Loving granny of Craig and his wife Karen, Graham and his partner Lori, Brian and his wife Emma, Darren, Scott and his partner Sharilea and Robin. Dearest great granny of Craig, Luke, Brianna, Thomas, Paige, George, Evie, Molly and Zack. Beloved sister of Liz Gemmell of Oshawa and much loved aunt of Margaret Convery, Josephine Upton and the late Martha Thickett. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa. With funeral service in the chapel on Wednesday October 3 ,2007 at 1pm. Cremation to follow. Dear Grandmother and Great Grandmother of Steven and wife Holly and their children Rainy and Samuel, Donald and children Jonathan and Ada, Brandie, Jamie and husband Ryan, John and wife Dawn and their children Johnnie, Steven, Peter, Tanner and Lucas and Audrey and daughter Breah. Survived by her sister Barbara MacKinnon and her husband Bill of British Colombia and Sister-in-law Mary Nelson of Oshawa. Predeceased by her brother Eldon Nelson. SANGWINE, Jean A.
Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa with her family by her side, on Saturday September 29, 2007. Jean A. Sangwine in her 86th year. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Vic Sangwine. Devoted mother of Eric, Janet Chisholm (Angus), Linda and grandmother of Heather, Ian, Stewart and Andrew Chisholm. Jean was a retired teacher, who helped many newcomers adjust to life in Canada. She was a CBC Radio Broadcaster and an award winning writer. Jean received the Gold Medal for Highest Marks in her final year of studies at the University of Winnipeg. She will best be remembered by her friends in Oshawa for her outgoing personality and her many lively contributions to the Church concerts. Resting at the ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME, 124 King Street East, Oshawa with Memorial Service in the Chapel on Thursday October 4, 2007 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.

SAUVE, Esther E. (nee Anderson )
February 5, 1931 - September 29, 2007 Peacefully after a short but courageous battle with cancer, Esther passed away on September 29, 2007 at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, at the age of 76. Esther and her husband of 60 years, Sam, retired to Uxbridge 20 years ago. Prior to her retirement, Esther worked for the Royal Bank for 37 years. Esther's first love was to her family. It is with heavy hearts that she leaves behind her devoted husband Sam, and daughters Jacqueline Cafissi (Max), Kathryn Uden (predeceased Richard) and Sharon Sauve (John King), five adoring grandchildren, Andrea Cafissi, Steven Uden (Catharine), Paul Cafissi (Jamie), Lori-Anne Uden and Mark Romanelli, and one very special great-grandson Samuel Cafissi. She also leaves loving step-grandchildren Brian Uden and Justine Uden, and many close friends both in Canada and Florida where her and Sam spent their retirement winters. We thank the very special caregivers at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and the Community Home Care programs for their endless hours of support and comfort to both Esther and the family. Donations to The Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and/or The Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

SCAMMELL, Jack Edward Charles
passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health Oshawa after a battle with emphysema on Saturday, September 29th, 2007 at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Joan of 54 years. Dear father of Susan Willits and Laurie (Rick) Kent. Cherished "Pa" to grandchildren Jason and Ryan Boyle, Jordan and Kortney Kent, and Lindsey (Dwayne) Desjardins. Predeceased by his brother Allan. A funeral service will be held at the MOUNT LAWN RECEPTION CENTRE, (21 Garrard Road, Whitby, 905-665-0600) at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 4th, 2007 with visitation two hours prior to the service. STAINTON, Keith Lauder (Shakey)
passed away peacefully, after a short illness at Lakeridge Health Bowmanville on September 29, 2007. In his 80th year. Devoted husband of the late Muriel M. Stainton. Son of the late Russell (Florence). Sadly missed and loved by son Clarke (Krista), daughter Susan, and the late Scott. Grandchildren Jillian and Scott. Brother of Ross (Marg), Grace Thomas, the late Roy and the late Jim (Ruth). Brother in law to Bud Moore (June), Beth Gordon (George), Yvonne Moore (late John), late Jim Moore (Ruby).
