Andres, Dave: Remembering Our Dad and Grandpa. It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Dave Andres of Kelowna, B.C., our Dad, Grandpa, and Mom's 'Dave' on February 24th, 2003. he is predeceased by his father, Peter and mother, Lillian. We find much comfort knowing that he is safe and secure in the strong arms of his loving Father much the same way we remember his strong, loving arms embracing each of us. Left to greatly miss him and celebrate his life are Eileen, his devoted wife and lifelong companion, his kids Davey (Kim), Bonnie (Greg), Sean (Mayumi), Leona, and Aaron; his grandkids he loved to be with, Issac, Jessica, Davy, Josh, Jesse, Joe, Rickey; his special 'adopted grandkids' Chris, Stephanie, Shaun, and Taylor; and Miles and Sandy Ryan and kids. he is also survived by his siblings Peter (Bernice), Lynn (Steve) and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Assembly on February 28th, 2003 at 2pm in Westbank, B.C. We love and miss you incredibly Dad and know we will see you soon in heaven.
CONWAY, DARLA VEONA (NEE MATTIOLI): born in Kamloops, BC on October 19, 1944 died in Kelowna on March 1, 2003. Hampshire, Madeline: passed away on February 28, 2003 at the age of 71. She is survived by her loving family: two daughters, Wanda Manahan of Summerland, Tara Rioux of Kelowna, son Wesley Danis (Carol) of St. Catharines; six grandchildren; three brothers: James (Joyce), Cliff (Audrey), Andrew (Elenor), all of Thunder Bay; three sisters: Lenora (Ernie) of Thunder Bay, Helen of St. Catharines, Esther of Kelowna and step daughter Penelope Robitaille. Henderson, Glenn Matthew: Of Kelowna, passed away in Kelowna General Hospital on Friday, February 28th, 2003 at the age of 74 years. Survived by his loving wife Rose; son Van (Deb); daughters Joy Bouchard and Faye Henderson; five grandchildren: Lucas, Jesse, Virginia, Amber and Lou and also his two brothers Bill and Larry. Kuntz, Doug: passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at the age of 49. He is survived by his loving wife Jan; two daughters, Michelle (Dean), Lisa (Chris); three grandsons who were the apple of his eye: Carsten 8, Douglas 2, Dawsen 2; his parents Bill and Lois Kuntz; sister Lori (Tom); four brothers: Daryl (Diane), Quinn, Colin (Catherine), Dave (Careen); nieces: Andrea, Tara, Bryn, Krystina; nephew Kori; cousins and special friends: Bruce, Annette (Tyler, Bryana) as well as many, many uncles, aunts and cousins who all have been a part of his life; and many friends from all over the country. Doug was active in the Ball Association, which was a big part of his life, and he spent many hours snowmobiling with his friends and business associates. SOMERSET, HAROLD ARCHIBALD died in Vernon Jubilee Hospital on March 1st, 2003. Born in Armstrong, May 28th, 1914, he is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Ruberta (Ruby) Grace Kaiser, formerly of Whitelaw, AB. Harold was the middle of seven children born to Archibald and Lucy Plumtree Somerset. Predeceased by his bother James and sister Ada Broadbent. Survived by sisters: Muriel Metcalf, Winfield, B.C. Helen McLaughlan, Peachland, B.C. and brothers: John Somerset, Calgary, A.B. Gilbert Somerset, Richmond, B.C. and sisters in law Joan Somerset, Richmond, B.C. and Mary Kaiser, Fairview, A.B. & many nieces and nephews. Longtime resident of Oyama, B.C. Harold had a gentleness in his manner of talking, a sense of deep appreciation for animals, and beauty wherever he found it. We are all much richer to have had the opportunity to know and love him. Jennings, Paul William: It is with great sorrow we announce the tragic death of Paul William Jennings in a motor vehicle accident on February 27, 2003 at the age of 49. Paul was the devoted husband and soul mate of 31 years to Brenda Jean (nee Anderson) and devoted father of son Tyler Paul (22), daughter Sheenah Dawn (20), and Melissa Henson (20), the daughter he embraced as his own. He is also survived by his parents, Ed and Freda Jennings of Victoria, brother Peter (Debra) of Calgary, sister Lindy (Les) Pinel of Vernon, and sister Lisa Jennings of Victoria. Paul was born in Epsom England, immigrated to Canada at the age of 7 and grew up in the city of Calgary, where he attended Crescent Heights High School. Paul was a passionate and charismatic man whose love of sport and pursuit of excellence in everything he did led him to achievements many might aspire to but few could match. As a young man, Paul was a member of Canada's National Men's Rugby Program and a standout player of the Calgary Hornets Rugby team. He was a scuba diver, parachutist, avid golfer, snow boarder, wake boarder, practitioner of the martial arts, loved playing the guitar and the blues harp, and was a master in storytelling and jokes. His love of sport and desire to spend time with his children also made him a great coach and mentor in baseball, hockey and basketball. Paul's commitment to building wonderful personal relationships with everyone he touched led to his many successes in business. He started his career with Investors Group in 1986, where he quickly attained the designation of Certified Financial Planner. His ability to coach, motivate and mentor others led him to enter into a management role as Associate Regional Director in Kelowna in 1988. He was promoted to Regional Director of the Fraser Valley Region in 1992, and moved back to the Okanagan in 1999 to take over the Okanagan North Region office in Vernon, which also included Kamloops, Merritt, Revelstoke, and Salmon Arm. He was a three-time recipient of the company's T.O. Peterson and Master Director Awards for management excellence. Paul has always believed in giving back to his community, and has been a volunteer or sponsor with the Boys and Girls Clubs, the United Way, the Vernon Figure Skating Club, the Vernon Lawn Bowling Club, Vernon Funtastic, Pee Wee Hockey, Performing Arts Centre, Vernon Vipers Hockey and was instrumental in bringing the 'Up With People' group to the Interior. The many people Paul has touched will remember his generous heart, his sense of humour and the way he chose to live every day to the fullest. He will be sadly missed, but his spirit will live on. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 8th at 2:00 pm at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, with Pastor Sean Wong officiating. Walker, Hazel May (nee Montgomery) Born May 12, 1915 in Lipton, Sask., passed away peacefully at Finlay Pavilion, White Rock on February 15, 2003. Hazel and Jimmy moved to Kelowna during their retirement years where they continued to enjoy their love of dogs and birds, as well as family and friends. In 1999 Hazel and husband Jimmy took up residency in Stillwaters Private Hospital where they enjoyed life in the care of the wonderful staff until the fall of 2000 when they moved to White Rock. Survived by husband Jimmy; daughters Dawn Beallie, Alberta Mason, Gloria Thorimbert (Rod), brother Ross Montgomery (Dorothy), sister Edna Gillingham (Claude); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by sister Evelyn Jenner and Grandson Wade Beallie. Cremation and a 'Celebration of Life' were held in White Rock. Internment will take place in Lipton at a later date.
Campbell (nee Murray) - Isobel Gray, born in Cruden Bay, Scotland on June 20, 1909 passed away in Cottonwoods Extended Care (Douglas Fir Unit) on February 24, 2003. Isobel was a long time resident of Kelowna form 1912 till 1958 and returned to Kelowna in 1988. Predeceased by her husband Alister in 1977 and great grandson Christopher in 2002. Survived by her daughter Janet (Doug) Stranaghan of Kelowna, son Robert (Sharon) of Kitimat, BC, daughter Phemia (Gordon) Watson of Williams Lake, BC; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Dunlop, Edna: It is with a great deal of sadness and many happy memories we announce the passing of Edna Mary (Ferris) Dunlop in Calgary, AB on March 1, 2003. Edna was born in Fielding, SK. In 1939 she marriage Pat (Thomas Ellis) Dunlop of Prongua, SK. They enjoyed 45 years together. The early years of their marriage were spent in southern Saskatchewan. In 1953, they moved to Meadow Lake, SK where they owned a hardware store until 1970 when they moved to Kelowna, BC. In 1999, Edna moved to Calgary to be near her family. Edna was an enthusiastic and energetic participant in life. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, sang in her church choir, and participated in various ladies; church groups. She also enjoyed curling and was an ardent bridge player. Edna is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Murray McGown of Calgary, and Marilynne and Roger McLeod of Edmonton, AB, four grandchildren Christi (Clayton Cook), Craig McGown, all of Calgary, Leanne and Scott McLeod of Edmonton, two sisters Norma Barber of Calgary, and Ruth (Ed) Smith of Abbotsford, BC, two brothers, Cecil (Betty) Ferris, and Chester (Willy) Ferris of Radisson, as well as numerous nieces and nephews throughout Canada. She was predeceased by her loving husband Pat, five sisters, and three brothers.
