Survived by 2 daughters, Patricia, Mrs. Andrew Patterson of London, Ontario and Irene, Mrs. Stuart Rath of Truro, Nova Scotia, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Harry Pickrill (Bessie) of Saint John, NB, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by 1 great granddaughter, Hannah Patterson.

Survived by daughter, Kathleen Smith (Alton) Oak Hill, N.B., four grandsons, one granddaughter, three great granddaughters, three great grandsons , sisters, Gertrude Lank and Bessie Corey (Noel) of Saint John, N.B. Genevieve Smith (Donald), Woodland Me., Doris Burgess, Manchester, Mass., brother, Maxwell Calder (Royis) Welshpool, N.B., several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Survived by her loving husband of 59 years Chesley Maxwell Calder of Welshpool Campobello, NB. One son Brent(Elizabeth) Calder of Oak Bay NB. One daughter Paula (William) Speer of Groveland, Florida. One grandson William Speer jr. (BJ). Two brothers Burris (Norma) Matthews, Ivan (Patricia) Matthews both of Wilson s Beach NB. Five sisters Phyllis Mrs. Arthur Babcock of Wilson s Beach NB. Lorene, Mrs. Arthur Barteau of Chocolate Cove, NB Della, Mrs. Lester Matthews of Wilson s Beach NB. Jewel, Mrs. Reginald Calder of Welshpool, NB. Elizabeth Mrs. Robert Jackson of Wilson s Beach NB. Sister in-law Alice Matthews. Several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by one brother Medford Matthews.
Royis was a longstanding , faithful member of the North Road Baptist Church, former Sunday school teacher, awana worker, member of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and a volunteer for the meals on wheels program.
Funeral service will be held Saturday May 8, 2004 2 PM from the North Road Baptist Church Welshpool, Campobello. With Rev John Tremblett officiating.
By request there is no visitation.

Bessie Irene McCartney
Bessie Irene McCartney, Valley Road, St. Stephen, NB, widow of Roy H. McCartney (1970) passed away peacefully on Saturday February 8,2003 at Passamaquoddy Lodge, St Andrews after a brief period of failing health in her 90th year.
She was the daughter of the late Irvine and Effie (Embleton) Moffatt, born in Harvey, NB, moved to the Valley Road, St Stephen in 1920 at age 7, graduated from St. Stephen High School and the Chipman Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, St Stephen in 1934. Bessie completed a 1 year course in Anesthesia at The University Hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio in 1937 and was active in Nursing until her retirement. Bessie served 6 years (1981-1987) on the Board of Trustees of the Charlotte County Hospital, St Stephen and was honoured to be the first female Board member. A lifelong member and active supporter of the St. Stephen Presbyterian Church, she enjoyed reading, quilting, bridge, rug hooking and crosswords.
She is survived by her son Dr Eric McCartney (Christine), Rothesay, NB; granddaughter Catherine McCartney (fiance Robert MacInnis) Fredericton; grandson Dr Jeffrey McCartney (Dr Janice Barnes) Montreal, and great grandchildren Claire and Steven McCartney, Montreal; sister Lorena McCartney, St Stephen, and brothers Philip Moffatt, Valley Road, St. Stephen and Cameron Moffatt, St. Stephen / Welsford, NB and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by brother Graydon Moffatt, St. Stephen and sisters Mildred Jamieson, Woodland, Me, Judy Madsen (Art) Barre, Mass. and Ruth Patterson (late Harold), Toronto.

Funeral Service will be held at the Gateway Cathedral, West Street, St. Stephen, NB on Saturday November 16, 2002 at 2 PM with Pastor Albert Price officiating. Interment at Oak Bay Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or charity of ones choice would be appreciated by the family.
