Rev. Dana H. Spence
The death of Rev. Dana Spence, age 79, of Little Shemogue and Williamsport, MD, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Monday, June 24, 2002.
Born in Little Shemogue, he was a son of the Late Walter and Annie (Robinson) Spence. A pentecostal minister for 53 years he served with his wife Reta in USA and Canada having served 20 years in Westernport, Virginia.
He is survived by a brother, Vincent (Olive), Moncton and 3 sisters, Zora Read, Murray Corner, Isla McGee, Sudbury, ON and Kathleen (Marshall) Hamilton, Murray Corner, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife the former Reta Rooney in 1998.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 W. Main Street, Port Elgin (364-1300) with visitation Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Timber River Pentecostal Church at 1:30 PM. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery, Port Elgin.
Eddie I. Trenholm
The death of Eddie I. Trenholm, age 85 of Bayfield, occurred suddenly at his home on Friday, June 7, 2002.
Born in Jourmain Island, Bayfield, NB he was a son of the late Martin and May (Allen) Trenholm. Living in Bayfield all of his life he was a fisherman, surveyor, gravedigger and jack of all trades.
He is survived by 2 sons, Lester (Ann), of Ottawa, ON and Brian (Mary Ann), of Sackville, NB, a Sister, Gladys Cook, of Fredericton, NB, and 3 grandchildren; Ann Marie, Lesley and Layne. He was predeceased by his wife the former Blanche Corey in 1997.
The remains are resting at the Wesley United Church Bayfield with visitation on Sunday from 6 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the church on Monday, June 10, 2002 at 2 PM. Burial in the Bayfield Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Jones Funeral Home, Sackville/Port Elgin (364-1300).
M. Alice Carroll
The death of M. Alice Carroll, age 79, widow of Howard Carroll occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 14, 2002.
Born in Bloomfield, PEI, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Priscilla (Doiron) Blanchard.Alice was a registered nurse, having worked in Bouctouche (where she met the love of her life, Howard), Moncton and Sackville. She was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville, an avid reader who enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren. During the last six years she worked tirelessly and lovingly caring for her husband of 52 years, who passed away on June 28, 2002.
She will be sadly missed by 3 daughters, Barbara (Don) Carson, Amherst, NS, Joan (Gary) Lund, Hampton, NB, Mona (Sylvio) Bourque, Grande-Digue; 2 sons, David (Tracy), Victoria, BC and Tom of Moncton. She will also be sadly missed by grandchildren, Patrick, Tracy, Amanda, Tony, Zachary, Chris, Jillian, Daniel and Stephen. She is the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by brothers, Henry and Louis and sisters, Albina, Adele, Claire, Mary and Thelma.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (364-1300) with visitation Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 16, 2002 at 11 AM, at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville. Burial in the Bouctouche Parish Cemetery. A prayer vigil will be held at the funeral home, Monday evening at 8:30 PM, all are welcome. Those desiring may make memorial donations to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
J. Howard Carroll
The death of J. Howard Carroll, age 78, husband of Alice (Blanchard) occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 28, 2002.
Born in Bouctouche, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Katherine (Carter) Carroll.An NB Forest Ranger for 35 years, he was stationed in Bouctouche, Sackville and Moncton. He was a veteran of World War II serving overseas. He was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville. Howard was a gentle man, who enjoyed his family, friends, woodworking, his cottage and gardening. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Alice Blanchard, Sackville, 3 daughters, Barbara (Don) Carson, Amherst, NS, Joan (Gary) Lund, Hampton, NB, Mona (Sylvio) Bourque, Grande-Digue; 2 sons, David (Tracy), Victoria,, BC and Tom of Moncton. He will as well be sadly missed by grandchildren, Patrick, Tracy, Amanda, Tony, Zachary, Chris, Jillian, Daniel and Stephen, sisters, Eileen Chewter, Jean (John) Duffy and Maureen (Ken) Kirkpatrick and brothers Raymond, Jack, Laurie (Jean) and Pat. He was predeceased by sisters, Lucy and Mona in infancy; and brothers, Richard, Robert and Ronald.

Grace (Love) Downey
The death of Grace (Love) Downey, age 78, occurred at her home on Tuesday, July 2, 2002.
Born in Woodstock, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Ella (Purvis) Love. Grace graduated from UNB in 1945. She served for a number of years as the Director of The Women's Institute Home in Woodstock, retiring in 1988 and moving to Sackville.
She is survived by sons Patrick (Debbie), St Catharines,ON, and Timothy (Daana), St. Albert, AB, and daughters Kathleen (Wylie) McMullen, Sackville, Susan (Jack) Nolan, Aurora, ON, Joanne (John) Reinstra, Steveston, BC, Linda (Mike) Rao, Guelph, ON, and Brenda (Roger) Odera, Edmonton, AB. She will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Gregory, Peter, Briar, Michael, Jessica, Danny, Alexe, Scott, Anna, Lee, Sarah, Jacqueline, James and Jennifer, sisters Verna Higham, Toronto, Shirley Mactavish and Doreen Brittain, both of Hampton NB, and a brother David (Eleanor) Love of Debec, NB.
The remains are in care of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300). By Grace's own request there will be no visitation or memorial service. Those wishing may make donations to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Foundation or a charity of their own choice.
Bryan (Bunny) Hicks
The death of Bryan (Bunny) Hicks, age 56, of Sackville occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Saturday, July 13, 2002.
Born in Sackville He was a son of the late Donald and May (Spiers) Hicks. Bryan will be long remembered by those who knew him best for his talents as an artist and poet.
Bryan is survived by his former wife Melanie (Newbery), Calgary, AB, 2 daughters, Zo (Christopher) Thompson, Calgary, AB, Jennie Newbery, Salisbury, England, 2 brothers, Donald (Alberta), Fredericton, Michael, Calgary, 2 sisters, Patricia (Terry) Conner, Moncton, Margaret (Duane) Wheeler, Kitchener, ON. He was predeceased by a brother, Terry.

Alex MacDonald
The death of Alex MacDonald, age 78, of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, July 7, 2002.
Born in Sackville he was a son of the Late James and Mary (Ahearn) MacDonald. Alex was a former employee of Mount Allison University with 23 years of service, and had many friends who will long remember him for his kindness and generosity. He was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church and an honourary member of the Sackville Fire Dept.
Alex is survived by a brother, Louis MacDonald of Victoria, BC. , nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Ken, a sister Eliza and an aunt Amy MacDonald.

Albert Joseph Melanson
The death of Albert Joseph Melanson, age 60 of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Friday, July 19, 2002.
Born in Sackville he was a son of Leona (Richard) Melanson and the late Ernest Melanson. Albert was an employee with Tantramar Sanitation & Trucking Ltd. He was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville and an associate member of the Sackville Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Albert will be sadly missed by his mother, Leona (Richard), Sackville, 5 brothers, Alyre, Montreal, QC, Arthur (Jenny), Cambridge, ON, Larry (Freda), Winnipeg, MN, Donald (Theresa) Miramichi, NB, Allen (Donna), Kingston, ON, 2 sisters, Paula Melanson, Victoria, BC, Janet (Tom) Nicherson, Oshawa, ON, 26 nieces and nephews and 25 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Ernest, 2 brothers, Raymond and Norman and a sister Yvonne.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Saturday from 7 to 9 and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated from St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville on Monday, July 22, 2002 at 11 AM. Father Phil Mulligan officiating. Burial in the Parish Cemetery. All are invited to a prayer vigil on Sunday evening at 8:30 at the funeral home.
Minnie B. Strang
The death of Minnie B. Strang, age 76 of Moncton and formerly of Baie Verte, NB occurred suddenly on Thursday, July 4, 2002 in Halifax.
Born in Job's Cove, NF she was a daughter of the late William and Jessie (Street) Halliday.Minnie will be sadl;y missed by her daughter Sharon (Donald) Cormier, Moncton, a son Kenneth (Ellen), Fredericton, 3 sisters, Florence (Max) Oliver, St. John's, NF, Janet Wheeler, NF and Elsie Halliday, Montreal as well as her 2 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Aubrey Strang in 1989, as well as by two brothers John and an infant.

Rose Thompson
The death of Rose Thompson, age 97, widow of Earle Thompson, occurred at the Drew Nursing Home, Sackville on Tuesday, July 16, 2002.
Born in Moncton, she was a daughter of the late William and Henrietta (Warman) Blakney.
Rose will be sadly missed by 2 sons, Merville, (Elizabeth) Moncton, and Earl (Eleanor), Sackville, a daughter, Barbara (Stanley) Mill, Victoria, BC, daughters-in-law, Myrtle and Vesta, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Earle and sons Clyde and William.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300). There will be no visitation, however, friends and relatives are invited to attend the funeral service, Friday morning, July 19, 2002 at 11 AM, followed by a time of Tea and Fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Middle Sackville Baptist Church, the Mount View Church Hall, or a charity of the donors choice. Burial in the Four Corners Cemetery.
Kim Ward
The death of Kimberley Ann Ward (Kim), age 37, of Sackville, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Monday, July 1, 2002.
Born in Sackville, NB, she was a daughter of Helen Ward and step-father Jack Nicholson.
Kim was a special girl to all who knew her. She loved music, life and her family and friends, who will miss her terribly.
In addition to her mother and step-father, of Sackville, she will be fondly remembered by her sister; Karen Stultz of Amherst, several Aunts, Uncles, cousins and 2 nieces.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm from the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St, Sackville, NB, where the funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 am, Rev. Kevin Stockall officiating. Burial will follow in the Sackville Cemetery. Those wishing to make donations may do so to the Sackville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Shauna Lynn Wilson
February 9, 1986 - July 23, 2002
Shauna Lynn Wilson, of Sackville, NB, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, July 23, 2002 in Moncton, as the result of a motor vehicle accident at the age of 16.
Born in Moncton, NB, she will be sadly missed by her parents Kevin Wilson and Angela (Chapman) Wilson, both of Sackville, NB.
Shauna was a student at Tantramar Regional High School. She was known to all as a caring person who deeply valued her many friends.
In addition to her parents, she will be fondly remembered by her maternal grandparents Ronald Chapman and Jeannita (Cormier) Chapman, both of Dorchester, and her paternal grandmother Rose (MacDonald) Wilson of Sackville, several aunts and uncles; Scott, Randell, Darrell, Sherry, Rick, Donnie, Brenda, Marilyn and Janet.
Visiting hours will take place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (364-1300). The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Friday, July 26, 2002 at 2 PM, Father R.B. Stockall officiating. Burial will follow in the Sackville Cemetery. Donations may be made to the I.W.K., or the charity of choice.
Lila Goodwin
The death of Lila Goodwin, age 85, widow of Willis Goodwin, occurred Wednesday, August 14, 2002 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Wood Point, NB, she was a daughter of the late Seward and May ( Bowser ) Wheaton.
Lila was a member of the St. Ann's Anglican Church.
Lila will be sadly missed by her daughter, Irene (Wilfred) Hicks, British Settlement; grandchildren, Susan (Scott) Johnson, David (Shawna) Hicks, Timothy (Angela) Hicks, Jeffrey (Tracey) Hicks, Michael (Samantha) Hicks and great grandchildren, Katie and Jenny Johnson, Kelsey Hastie and Meredith Hicks, a brother, Gerald (Laura) Wheaton, New Minas, NS and a sister Lillian Reid, Edmonton, AB, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Willis in 1998, a sister Dorothy and brothers, Ralph and Arthur.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) . There is no visitation. Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, August 16, 2002 at 11 AM, Rev. Father Kevin Stockall officiating. Burial in the Westcock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Westcock Cemetery Fund or the Sackville VON Palliative Care Program.
Alma Leger
The death of Alma Leger, age 93, widow of Clem Leger, occurred at the Drew Nursing Home on Thursday, August 8, 2002.
Born in Great Shemogue, she was a daughter of the late Patrick and Justine (Babineau) Melanson. Alma was a member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church and a charter member of the CWL.
She is survived by one daughter, Marita (Owen) Lennon of Moncton, NB., and 2 grandsons, Paul and Brian Hache; 2 sister, Doris Gaudet, Angus, ON and Annie Comeau of Cambridge, Mass; and a brother Leo (Jean) Melanson, Bradford, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Clement in 1982 and a son-in-law Edward Hache in 1976, 2 sisters, Rita Stackhouse and Sarah Richard and one brother, Armand.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville on Saturday, August 10, 2002 at 11 AM. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery. Frona Davis
Frona Davis passed away peacefully at her home in Port Elgin on August 22, 2002.
She was born in Shemogue, NB on June 16, 1911, daughter of the late David and Henrietta (Brine) Dobson.
She attended Trinity United Church in Port Elgin and was a life member of the United Church Women. Frona was a telephone operator prior to her marriage and birth of her six children. She delivered the rural mail for many years, but always remained a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, neighbour and friend.
She is survived by three daughters, Eleanor Booth, Moncton, Elizabeth (Mitchell) Mountain, Ottawa, Cheryl Fairbrother (Don McCue), Saint John; three sons, Reginald (Lois), Stanley, Douglas ( Judy), Moncton, Donald (Lillian), Port Elgin; one brother, Lloyd (Ann) Dobson, Shemogue and sister-in-law Genvieve Dobson, Cambridge, ON. She was the proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Davis, 1978, son-in-law, Edwin Booth, 2002, three sisters, Daphna Glatz, Lola McDermott, Kathleen Cullen and two brothers, Leslie and Gaius Dobson.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) with visitation Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Trinity United Church, Port Elgin on Sunday, August 25, 2002 at 2 PM. Burial in the Fernwood Cemetery. Donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
Frances Jones
The death of Frances Jones, age 88, of Westford Nursing Home, Port Elgin occurred on Saturday, August 17, 2002 at Port Elgin.
Born in Boston, Mass. she was a daughter of the late Russell and Ruth (Whitcomb ) Hoch. Frances operated the rural mail service in excess of 10 years covering 2 rural mail routes. She was a member of the Bayfield United Church, being a former Sunday School Superintendent, Choir Member and church worker.
Frances will be sadly missed by 4 sons, Russell (Marilyn), Oshawa, ON, David (Norma), Kingsport, NS, Richard, Bayfield,NB, Howard (Florence), Gardiner Mines, NS; 3 daughters, Jacqueline (Ronald) Murray, Little Shemogue, NB, Phyllis (Roger) Tingley, London, ON, Judith (Roger) Madge, Oshawa, ON. , 23 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 2 nephews, Douglas (Lois) Hoch, Sunrise, FL and Allan (Susan) Hoch, Braintree, Mass.. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Jones in 1982, and a brother Russell in 1991.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300) with visitation Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at 11 AM, Rev. David Wright officiating. Following burial at the Bayfield Cemetery a time of tea and fellowship will be held at the Bayfield United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bayfield United Church.
Linda Lewis The death of Linda Lewis, age 55, wife of Aubrey Lewis of Westcock, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Wednesday, August 14, 2002.
Born in Sackville she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jannie (Wheaton) Stokes.
Linda will be sadly missed by her husband, Aubrey Lewis, Westcock, a daughter Kimberly (Greg Hicks) Lewis, Sackville, 2 grandchildren, Jordon and Jeremy Hicks; 4 brothers, Frank (Florence) and Tony (Valerie), both of Fredericton, Donald, Sackville and Doug (Bonnie) of Murray Corner, NB; 4 sisters, Charlotte Bulmer and Laurice (Alain) Cormier, both of Sackville, Faye (Pat) Gouchie, Grand Prairie, AB and Sharon Siddall of Riverview, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a sister Doreen Ward.

Bertha McCready
The death of Bertha McCready, age 90, wife of Arthur McCready of Johnson's Mills occurred suddenly at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, August 21, 2002.
Born in Johnson's Mills, she was a daughter of the late George and Mary (Ward) McFadden. Bertha was a generous person, who loved nature and all of God's creatures. She was a great hostess, and was well known for her needlework, knitting and sewing, much of which she donated to various organizations.
Bertha will be sadly missed by her husband, Arthur, Johnson's Mills; 3 sons, Arthur (Joyce), Montreal, Richard (Trudy), Oshawa and Wallace (Helen), Moncton; 2 daughters, Elizabeth (Walter) Bourque, Antigonish, Patricia (Allan) Jones, Johnson's Mills, a brother, George McFadden, Moncton; 12 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, brothers, Hibbert, Walter and Arnold and by sisters, Margaret and Joyce.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 11 AM. Burial in the Dorchester Rural Cemetery at a later date.
Elfleda Snowdon
The death of Elfleda Snowdon, age 91, widow of Walter Snowdon occurred on Sunday, August 4, 2002 at the Sackville Memorial Hospital
Born in Taxis River, NB she was a daughter of the late Harry and Pearle (Parker) Spencer. Formerly a school teacher, she taught in several of New Brunswick's one room schools and in the Sackville / Wood Point area. She was an active member of the Woodpoint Baptist Church for 67 years
She is survived by her daughter Doris (Ronald) Dummer, Cambridge, ON, five sons, Donald (Colleen), Cambridge, ON; William (Elizabeth) and Dale (Brenda), Wood Point, NB; Richard (Shirley), Quispamsis, NB; James (Susan), Kentville, NS. 25 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Grace Spencer of Boiestown, NB and her daughter-in-law Deline Snowdon. She was predeceased by her husband Walter Snowdon in 1993, daughter Catherine Hicks, son Robert Snowdon, brother Charles Spencer, sister Leola White and infant grandson Jonathan Snowdon.

Marjorie Snowdon
The death of Marjorie Snowdon, age 72, wife of Rae Snowdon of Brooklyn Road, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, September 7, 2002 following a lengthy illness.
Born in Brooklyn Road, she was a daughter of the Late Kenneth and Della (Sears) Phinney.
Marjorie was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and long time member of the WMS.
Marjorie will be sadly missed by her husband of 52 years, Rae Snowdon, Midgic, 3 sons, Keith (Beverley), Bible Hill, NS, Rupert (Janice), Moncton and Douglas, Irishtown; 2 daughters, Sandra (Gerry) Ross, Amherst, NS and Sally (Blaine) Bagley, Riverview; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Ernest (Marilyn) and Vernon (Tammy), both of Midgic; 3 sisters, Bernice Snowden, Midgic, Nellie (Albert) Legere, Jolicure, NB and Reva (Fred) Cook, Sackville.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the Salem Baptist Church, Sackville on Monday, September 9, 2002 at 2 PM, Pastor Morris Mills officiating. Burial in the Midgic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salem Baptist Church, Cancer Society or charity of the donor's choice.
