The death of Fred A. Legere, age 87 of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Sackville, he was a son of the Late Mac and Edmee (Legere) Legere. Formerly employed at Enterprise Foundry, as a sheet metal worker with 34 years of service. He was a member of the St. Vincent's RC Church, Sackville. A musician, he was a former church organist and band member.
He is survived by his wife the former Rita Legere, Sackville, a daughter, Doreen (Alan) Johnson, Sackville and 2 granddaughters, Karen & Michelle, 3 brothers, Camille, Mass., Lorne (Helen), Sackville and John (Flora), Memramcook , 2 sisters, Phyllis McFee, Sackville and Elise (Tootsie) Landry, Sackville, He was predeceased by a daughter Phyllis in 1996, 3 brothers, Hector, Edward and Roy and 2 sisters, Ina and Mary.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300) with visitation Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, December 27, 2002 at 11 AM at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, Sackville, Father Phil Mulligan officiating. Burial in the parish Cemetery.
Corinne Legere
The death of Corinne Legere, age 85, widow of George Legere, occurred suddenly on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at the Victoria Manor, Amherst.
Born in Port Elgin she was a daughter of the late Simon and Salomne (Babineau) Cormier. She was a member of the St. Clements Church and CWL, Port Elgin
Corinne will be sadly missed by a son Leonard, Cambridge, ON, 2 daughters, Paulette (Douglas) Purdy, Sackville and Julie (Courtney) Wall, Port Elgin, 1 sister, Greta White, Amherst, NS, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1993 and 2 sons, Ronald and Charles.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main Street, Port Elgin with visitation Sunday and Monday from 7 to 9 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at 11 am at St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, Port Elgin, Rev. Father Philip Mulligan officiating. Burial in the parish Cemetery. A prayer vigil will be held Monday evening at 8:30 pm at the funeral home, all are invited.
Tilman Legere
The death of Tilman Legere, age 90 of Lower Cap Pele, occurred at the Dr. George DuMont Hospital on Thursday, March 13, 2003.
Born in St. Andre, he was a son of the Late Ferdinand and Delena (Leblanc) Legere. Tilman was a lifelong carpenter working for many years with Speedy Auto Glass in Toronto retiring to Lower Cap Pele in 1972.
He is survived by 1 son; Ronald (Betty) of Barrie, ON and 1 foster daughter; Eva (Terry) Tapping of London, ON, 4 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Dinah (Medee) Gallant, Grand Digue & Mary Legere, Shediac Bridge and a brother Joe (Alice) of Shediac Bridge.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB with visitation Sunday from 7 to 9 PM. A funeral service will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, Sackville, Monday, March 17, 2003 at 4 PM, officiated by Tilman's grandson. There will also be a Memorial Mass celebrated at St. Therese d'Avila Roman Catholic Church, Cap Pele in Tilman's memory on Tuesday, March 18,. 2003 at 9:30 AM. All friends and relatives are invited to both services. Burial in the parish Cemetery, Cap Pele in the spring.
Joseph F. Lucci
The death of Joseph F. Lucci, age 84, of Baie Verte, NB occurred on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre, Amherst, NS
Born in Coburg, NB he was a son of the late Frank and Edith (Goodwin) Lucci He worked for the Dept of Highways for 20 years. A veteran of World War II he served in the 2nd Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment in the Canadian Army in Canada, United Kingdom and Western Europe from 1941 to 1945. He was a member of the Amherst Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Joseph will be sadly missed by his 3 sons, Chris (Cecilia), Amherst, NS, Joe (Sandra), Baie Verte, NB and Allan (Naomi), Dorchester, NB, 1 daughter Debbie Jardine, Moncton, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, a special friend, Audrey Chapman, Amherst, NS, 2 brothers, Bill, Amherst, NS and Percy (Nancy), Point de Bute, NB. He was predeceased by his wife Olive in 1998, a son, Ricky, brothers, Harry, Lawrence, Trueman and Sylvester and by a sister Helen.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 W Main St., Port Elgin with visitation Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 28, 2002 at 2 PM at the funeral home, burial in the Baie Verte Cemetery.
Verdell Allen
The death of Verdell Allen, age 63, occurred suddenly at his home, Upper Cape on Sunday, December 8, 2002.
Born in Malden, he was a son of Helen (Trenholm) and the late Wendell Allen. A carpenter, he worked in the Tantramar area most of his life. He was a member of the St. Bartholomew's Roman Catholic Church, Melrose.
Verdell will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Coreen Perry, his mother Helen Allen, Scoudouc, 2 sons, Larry (Tammy) and Kevin, both of Upper Cape and 2 daughters, Suzette (Timothy) Ketchum, Hampton and Kim Pauley of Port Elgin, 8 grandchildren, 3 brothers, Walter (Joan), Westchester, NS, Charles and Junior (Dawn) both of Scoudouc, 5 sisters, Coleen (Emery) Lewis and Laverne (Romeo) Savoie both of Scoudouc, Glenna (Henry) Heighton, River John, NS, Ardith MacAloney, Chignecto, NS and Sandra (Maurice) Baxter, Halifax. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, Muriel and Mary-Janet.

Brenda Blackburn
The death of Brenda Blackburn, age 60, wife of Douglas Blackburn of Cape Tormentine occurred suddenly at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 23, 2002.
Born in Upper Cape, she was a daughter of Dorothy (Allen) and the Late Thornton Ogden. She was a member of the Timber River Pentecostal Church
Brenda will be sadly missed by her husband, Douglas, Cape Tormentine, her mother , Dorothy, Pictou, NS, 6 brothers, Moody, Tim, Dale, Mark, Clinton and Roy, 4 sisters, Esther, Mildred, Faith, and Sheila. She was predeceased by her father and a brother Rick.
The remains are resting at the home of her friends, Garth and Joan Trenholm, Cape Tormentine, NB where visitation will be held Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon and evening. The funeral service will be held at the Timber River Pentecostal Church on Thursday, December 26, 2002 at 2 PM, Pastor Al Leonard officiating. Ronald Joseph Folkins
On December 6, 2002, Ronald Joseph Folkins, 87 of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home and formerly of Dorchester, NB, peacefullly and surrounded by love went to his heavenly home.
Born on October 11, 1915 at Pleasant Ridge, NB, he was the son of Ford Casey and Mary Elizabeth (Cook) Folkins. He attended Dorchester United Church.The greatest part of his working life was spent farming and working in the woods. He loved music, playing games, driving and enjoying the country side.
He loved being involved in the lives of his five children, thirteen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and loved sharing stories of his working days with them, which they enjoyed hearing about.
Besides his beloved wife of 58 years, Estella (Carson) Folkins, he will be greatly missed by his children, Ritchie (Alice) and Warren both of Dorchester, Marion and Elsie (Mike) both of Moncton, Lloyd (Donna) of Riverview, thirteen grandchildren and their families, as well as many nieces and nephews and his friends.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB with visitation on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 9, 2002 at 3 PM, Rev. Margaret Outerbridge officiating, reception following service. Interment will be at Berwick NB Cemetery. In memory of Ronald, donations to NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Friends of the Moncton Hospital would be appreciated.
Laura Napper
The death of Laura Napper, age 84 of Sackville occurred at the Dr. George DuMont Hospital, Moncton, following a brief illness.
Born in Sackville, she was a daughter of the late Thaddee & Elizabeth (Leger) Richard. A member of St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church, she was also an honorary member of the Sackville Senior Citizen's Club.
Laura will be sadly missed by a son John (Barbara), Sackville, 3 daughters, Doris Hicks, Amherst, NS, Joyce (George) Gilroy, Brookdale, NS and Elizabeth ( Hanford ) Nye, Sackville , 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Eliza (Edmund) Leblanc, Sackville, Eva Bourque, Scoudouc and Evangeline Ison, Belleville, ON. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 1996, a grandson, Georgie in 1997, 2 brothers, Andrew & Robert and a sister, Anna

The funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, January 27, 2003 at 11 am at St. Vincent's Church, Charlotte St., Sackville. Burial in the Sackville Cemetery at a later date.
Janet Elizabeth Allen
The death of Janet E. Allen, age 89 of Port Elgin, occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, January 7, 2003.
Born in Little Shemogue, NB, she was a daughter of William and Florence (Johnson) Anderson.
She was an active member of the Port Elgin Trinity United Church, and the UCW. She worked for the Village of Port Elgin, for many years.
She will be sadly missed by her son Donald (Ellen) of Riverview, and her sister-in-law Phyllis Anderson of Baie Verte, and her special family; Wendy, Darrell, Jennifer, Nicole and Ben.
She was predeceased by her husband Alvin in 1998, 3 brothers; Percy, Russell, and Harry, and one sister Emma.A memorial service will be held at the Port Elgin Trinity United Church on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 2 PM, Rev. David Eagles officiating. Burial will take place in the Fernwood Cemetery in the spring.

Alice B atrice Comeau
1899 - 2003
The death of Alice B atrice Comeau, age 103, occurred at the Dr Georges-L.-Dumont Hospital on Sunday, January 26, 2003.
Born in Middle Sackville, NB, on April 9th, 1899, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Elise (Mills) Leger. Beatrice had been active in St. Clement's Parish as organist, member of CWL and Dames de Ste-Anne, visiting the sick and advising all who sought her counsel. She enjoyed traveling, including an unforgettable trip to Rome to see Pope John Paul II, when she was 82, and on to England and many parts of Canada and USA. Music, drama, photography and sports were a big part of her life. She was a great Blue Jays' fan and collected many souvenirs of the team. She kept abreast of current news, on TV as well as from 3 local papers both English and French. Her extensive family and friends, were privileged to have the benefit of her wisdom and counsel. She will be greatly missed by all.
She is survived by six daughters: Rita Webster (Ernest), Toronto, ON, Eleanor Park (Bill), Miami, FL, Eunice Whitehead, Toronto, ON, Ola Williams, Port Elgin, NB, Albertine Comeau, Moncton, NB, Esther Fearon (Austin), Greater Lakeburn, NB; one sister, Esther Leger, Toronto, ON; 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Adolphe Comeau and by daughters: Ida, Maria and Marguerite-Marie; four brothers: George, Henry, Raymond, Roy; and seven sisters: Edna, Marie, Isabella, Clarice, Bessie, Florence and Dorette.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin (364-1300), with visitation Monday from 7 to 9 and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 29th, 2003 from St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church, Port Elgin, at 11 AM. Burial will be in the parish Cemetery in the spring.
Vivian (Tib) Skeldon
The death of Vivian (Tib) Skeldon, age 79 of Dorchester occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Sunday, January 19, 2003.
Born in Riverview, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Harriett (Breed) Chappell. Very involved in community affairs, she was an active member of the Dorchester United Church, the UCW, Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion and volunteered for many years in the Girl Guides.
Tib will be sadly missed by her 5 daughters, Norma Samuelsen and family of Dartmouth, NS, Carol Hartt and family of Fredericton Jct., NB, Marilyn Forbes & family of Barrington, RI, USA, Wendy and John Garnhum and family of Dartmouth, NS and Janice Skeldon of Powell River, BC, 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and a sister Edna Bulmer, Moncton. She was predeceased by her husband Albert Skeldon in 1998 and by 4 sisters, Constance, Kathleen, Irene and Violet and by a brother George.

Ralph Trenholm
The death of Ralph Trenholm, age 74 of Port Elgin occurred suddenly on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at his home.
Born in Port Elgin, he was a son of Delilah (Larsen) Trenholm and the late Alton Trenholm. A 30 year employee with the Dept of Highways, he retired in 1990. Ralph was an active volunteer with the Red Cross and an avid Maple Leaf fan.
Ralph will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Florence Legere, Port Elgin, his mother Delilah Trenholm, Port Elgin, 2 sons, Randy (Frances), Moncton and Danny (Lori), Riverview, 2 grandchildren, Adam and Megan, 3 brothers, Donald (Doris), Robert (Linda) and Florin (Dewey) (Lillian), all of Port Elgin and a sister Helen (Stuart) Burke, Port Elgin.
Ralph's family will be receiving friends at the Jones Funeral Home, Port Elgin on Sunday January 26, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 27, 2003 at 2 PM, Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating. Burial will be in the spring.
Lloyd Brenton
August 21, 1911 - February 18, 2003
Sackville, NB: The death of Lloyd Brenton, 91, of Sackville, formerly of Amherst, occurred on February 18, 2003 at his residence.
Born in Amherst, he was the son of the late Leander W. and Lottie (Fillmore) Brenton.
Lloyd operated a grocery store in Amherst for a nember of years and was employed at Canadian Car and Foundry during the war years. He worked for CN Telegraph in many of their offices in the Maritimes including Sackville. Prior to his retirement he was employed at Dorchester Penitentiary.
The last surviving member of his immediate family he is survived by a niece and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by his wife the former Aura Bell Carroll (1981), his brotherrs Welsford and Wallace, and a sister Isabel Purchase.
At Lloyd's request there will be no visitation or memorial service. Burial in the Amherst Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are in care of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St. (364-1300).
Logan James Cple June 3, 1992 - February 26, 2003
The tragic death of Logan Cple, age 11, occurred at his home as the result of a fire on Wednesday, February 26, 2003.
Born in Moncton, he was a son of Ted and Sharon (Bott) Cple.
Logan, a special needs child (autism), was a student at Port Elgin Regional School, and participated in an Individual Education Program administered by his teachers and teacher assistants. He was a member of the Cumberland Early Intervention Smile Program. Logan loved to swim, and was a member of the Special Populations Swimming Group.
Logan will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his parents Ted and Sharon his brothers; Liam and Taylor, both at home, his paternal grandparents; C.W. (Dud) and Madeline Cple of Port Elgin, NB, maternal grandfather and step nanny Art and Joy Bott of Rocky Mountain House, AB, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Myrtle Bott.
The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 3 West Main St., Port Elgin, NB (364-1300) with visiting hours on Saturday, March 1, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The funeral service will take place on Sunday at 2 pm at the Port Elgin Regional School, Rev. Jay Ettinger officiating.

Elizabeth M. Rogers April 13, 1909 - February 25, 2003
The death of Elizabeth M. Rogers, age 93, of Port Elgin, NB, occurred on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at the Westford Nursing Home.
Born in Port Elgin, NB, she was a daughter of Jacques and Eugenie (Leger) Arsenault. She was a member of St. Clement's Roman Catholic Church.
She will be fondly remembered by her brother Leo of Shediac, her sister; Ada Leblanc of Port Elgin, and a nephew Donald (Claudette) Leblanc of Shediac River. She was predeceased by her husband Martin in 1980, brothers; Fred, Adrice, Edward, and Romeo, sisters; Eva, Marceline, and Emerise.

Dave Thomas
On February 14, 2003, Dave Thomas, age 65, of Fort Folly First Nation, passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital.
Born in Moncton, NB, he was a son of the Late Peter and Kathleen (Bernard) Thomas.
He was a member of the Canadian Navy serving a long prestigious career of 25 years from 1954 to 1979, retiring with the rank of Petty Officer First Class. After returning to Fort Folly he went to work at the Dorchester Penitentiary as supervisor of electronics.. Dave was the Chief of the Fort Folly First Nations for 7 years from 1990 until his retirement in 1997.
Dave will be sadly missed by his wife of 23 years; Marion (Cady) of Fort Folly, his daughter Michelle Soulodre of Winnipeg, MB, step-daughter; Linda Maddox (James) of Dartmouth, NS, 3 grandchildren; Ben, Valerie and Jason, 4 great grandchildren, his Aunt Dorothy Nye of Dorchester and several cousins, 1 half-brother; Patrick McCarron, Florida, 2 half-sisters; Marie Roberts of Oldtown, Maine and Kathleen McCarron of Florida.
He is predeceased by his brother John..The remains are resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, NB (364-1300) where the visiting hours will be held on Saturday from 7 to 9 and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 11 am at the Jones Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the spring at the Beaumont Cemetery.

Doreen Blacklock
The death of Doreen Blacklock, age 73, of Amherst, NS and formerly of Bayfield, NB, occurred suddenly at her home on Thursday, March 13, 2003.
Born in Bayfield, she was a daughter of the late Lyle and Fern (McMorris) McGlashen. An accomplished musician, she played the church organ for a number of years, often playing for social events and teaching music.

Born in Sackville, he was a son of Lorraine (Legere) Brine and the late Alfred Brine.
He will be sadly missed by his special friend, Brenda Goralczyk, his mother, Lorraine Brine, Sackville, a daughter, Daisy Arsenault, Sackville, brothers, Oswald, Edward and Peter, five sisters, Theresa, Yvonne, Doris, Shirley and Sarah.

Donald Bulmer
The death of Donald Bulmer, age 74, of Sackville occurred at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Friday, April 4, 2003, following a brief illness
Born in Sackville, he was a son of the Late Ernest and Jessie (Amos) Bulmer. A heavy equipment mechanic he retired in 1994 with 40 years of service.
Donald will be sadly missed by his wife the former Marguerite Gordon, Sackville, a son Michael (Laura-Lee), Truro, NS, 3 grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua and Jillian as well as a half-sister Irma Northrup, New Hampshire, USA
The remains have been forwarded for cremation. Visitation will be held at the Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, (364-1300) on Sunday 7 to 9 PM. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Monday, April 7, 2003 at 11 AM, Rev. Father Kevin Stockall officiating. A reception will follow. Jeanette Chase
The death of Jeanette Chase occurred peacefully at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Saturday, April 12, 2003 in her 101st year.
Born in Clark's Harbour, NS, she was a daughter of the late Randall and Alice (Kenny) MacKinnon. She was a life long member of the Salvation Army and the oldest soldier of the Amherst, NS Citadel, she was the secretary for the Sackville Salvation Army Home League until 3 years ago.
Mrs. Chase leaves to mourn, 2 daughters, Catherine, Sackville and Margaret (James) Murray, Miramichi, a sister, Marjorie Smith, Shelburne, NS. She was predeceased by her husband Percy in 1970 and 2 sisters, Bernice and Millie.

George Kinnear
The death of George Kinnear, age 75, of Jolicure, occurred at the Moncton City Hospital on Saturday, April 12, 2003.
Born in Tattynure, Northern Ireland, he was a son of the Late Robert and Matilda (Barbour) Kinnear. A farmer and woodsman, he worked for several years with Geoge and Hugh Wood.
George leaves to mourn a brother, Thomas (Eldora) Kinnear, Stellarton, 2 sisters, Catherine Jones, Amherst and Matilda (Earl) Martin, Barrie, ON, nieces and nephews and special great nieces and nephews, Kevin (Debbi), Tim (Erin), Tracey and Kelly. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert and Joseph and sisters, Sadie Thomson, Mary Ann McMillan, Isabel Siddall and Elizabeth Hacquoil.
The remains have been forwarded for cremation. A graveside service will be held at the Point de Bute Cemetery on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at 11 AM, Rev. Terrence Trites officiating. Arrangements in care of Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville (364-1300).
