Reid, Rebecca Elizabeth “Becky” – 21, of West Advocate, Cumberland County. It is with sadness we announce the passing of Becky Reid. Becky passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at the QEII Health Sciences Centre (Infirmary Site), Halifax. Born in Halifax on September 6, 1983, she was the cherished daughter of Charles and Donna (Halvorsen) Reid, of West Advocate. Besides her parents, she was a loving sister to Mandy, Wolfville and Layton, Charlottetown. She will be sadly missed by her grandmothers, Rae Reid, West Advocate; and Betty Halvorsen, Montreal; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Ben Judson Reid. Becky was an avid sports enthusiast playing soccer, basketball and badminton for her high school teams. Becky attended St. Mary’s University. Her enthusiasm, love for life and compassion for others make her a special “Angel” who touched people of all ages. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Cystic Fibrosis Team of the IWK, and the nurses, doctors and health care teams of the QEII for their many years of care. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 16, 2004 at the Advocate United Church, Rev. Dan Gunn officiating. A reception will follow the funeral service at the Advocate High School. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amanda Dillman, a special friend of Becky’s currently awaiting a lung transplant in Toronto c/o Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro.

Ayer, Mabel I. - 81, of Halfway River, Cumberland County passed away Friday, February 24, 2006 at the Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche, with her sons by her side. Born in Halfway River, she was a daughter of the late Silas and Annie (Dowe) Henwood. She is survived by her husband, Wyman; a daughter, Margie Milton (Marven), Hillsborough, N.B.; three sons, Harold (Margaret), Lakelands; Earl (Ada), Fenwick; Loman (Mary), Shelburne; a brother, David, Crossroads; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a infant son, Glen; a sister, Vera; brothers, Hedley, Herbert, Albert, Ernest. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 26, 2006, Rev. Greg Doyle officiating. Burial in the Harrison Settlement Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
Adelaide M. Greenough

GREENOUGH, Adelaide M. – 83, of Five Islands, Colchester County passed away Friday, February 22, 2008 at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late Haverstock and Jessie (Evans) MacLean. Adelaide began teaching school at the age of 16 in Chimney Corner. Following graduation from Normal College, she taught in Five Islands, Economy and Bass River for 28 years. She was vice principal in Bass River for many years retiring in 1980. She was a long serving member of Peniel United Church, where she was active with the choir, Sunday School and served as treasurer. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Russell; daughter, Helen Greenough (John), Bedford; son, Dr. John Greenough, Kelowna, B.C.; sister, Ruby MacKay (Arthur), Margaree Harbour; brother, John MacLean (Cheryl), Margaree Harbour; a granddaughter, Catherine Greenough, Kelowna; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Marie. A gathering of friends and family will be held 7-9 p.m. this evening [Monday, February 25, 2008] at The Greenough’s at 99 Waterfront Drive, Bedford. Visitation 1-2 p.m. Tuesday [February 26, 2008] at Peniel United Church, Five Islands, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Rev. Florence Antle-Brison officiating. Burial in the church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Peniel United Church or to a charity of choice.

MORRIS, Ruth R. - 77, Advocate Harbour, Cumberland Co., passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, in South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Toronto, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Mabel (Dale) Hewlett. Ruth was employed with Eatons in Toronto for 13 years and later as a Payroll Accountant with General Motors for 28 years. She was a member of the Advocate Baptist Church where she served as treasurer, was a member of the choir, and assisted with the Bible and Sunday schools. She is survived by her husband, Floyd; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Blakemore, Victoria, B.C.; sisters, Lillyan Coyle, Toronto; Elizabeth Hollywood (Sydney), Toronto; brothers, Gordon Hewlett (Karen), Palmerston, Ont.; Mel Rose, Serpent River, Ont.; Verne Rose (Neen), Elliott Lake, Ont.; grandchildren, Elizabeth "Lizz" Blakemore and Laura Blakemore, both of Victoria. She was predeceased by sisters, Mary Whitfield, Caryl Gal, and brother, John Rose. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Friday [March 7, 2008] in Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro, and 7-9 p.m. Friday [March 7, 2008] in Advocate Baptist Church, where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday [March 8, 2008], Rev. ADAMS, Marie H. - 82, of Southampton, Cumberland Co., passed away Monday, March 10, 2008, in High Crest Nursing Home, Springhill. Born in Springhill, she was a daughter of the late Allison and Lavenia (Rector) Rector. Marie’s main interest was with her family where she was a faithful and loving person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Preston Arents, Cornwall, Ont.; granddaughter, Brenda Lee Arents, Halifax; grandsons, Mark Arents (Diane), Alberta; Michael Arents, Halifax; a great-granddaughter, Katheryn Arents; great-grandson, Nicholas Arents; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, John Arents in 1962; second husband, Gerald Adams in 2005; a sister, Helen; brothers, Hedley, Louis, Garnet, Sidney and Hanson in infancy. ORR, Georgina B. - 95, of Chignecto Manor, Advocate Harbour, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in River Hebert, she was a daughter of the late Gordon A. and Mamie B. (Nuttall) Rector. She is survived by sons, John (Eva), Collingwood; David (Berla), Cambridge; six grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Wesley in 1968; sisters, Dorothy, Beatrice, Aileen; twin sister, Margaret; brother, Gordon. Visitation 12-2 p.m. Thursday [March 13, 2008] in Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., President Lawrence Ross of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Born in Springhill, he was a son of the late Judson and Viola (Goodwin) Rector. He is survived by daughters, Velda MacPherson (Archie), Beaver Bank; Darlene St. Peter (Leo), Blackstock, Ont.; Rodena Hatnean (John), Belle River, Ont.; Debi Canning (Martin), Dartmouth; sons-in-law, Joseph Dodsworth, Rothesay, N.B.; Keith Bowman, Lynn Mountain; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Annabelle MacDonald; daughters, Effie and Pauline; son, Ronald; sisters, Bernice, Marguerite, Annie, Ethel; brother, Owen; grandson, Anthony. ROWE, Donald A. “Bumpy” – 73, of Parrsboro, Cumberland County passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008 at South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late James and Eva (Canning) Rowe. Donnie was a veteran of the Korean War serving with RCEME. Following his retirement from the service in 1966, he was employed in numerous occupations throughout the area. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his wife, the former Beryl MacLeod; daughters, Dawne MacCaull (Garry), Dartmouth; Debbie Noiles (Leo), Amherst; Darlene Shirley (Mike), Parrsboro; sons, Danny (Claudina), Eastern Shore; David, Parrsboro; Darren (Janice), Trenton, Ont.; Dean (Laura), Parrsboro; a sister, Laura Clements; a brother, Jimmy Rowe; 17 grandchildren; 3 great-granddaughters; 2 step-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by step-father, John Lordon; a sister, Audrey Pratt; a brother, Raymond Canning. Private family services will be held at a later date.
