Cameron, James "Mac"
Date of Death: October 14, 2004
Cameron, James McKay (Mack) "Mack" passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Ottawa General Hospital at the age of 83. He was born April 3, 1921 to Luella Mae (McKay) and James Robert Cameron in Cornwall, ON. Survived by his high school sweetheart wife Betty McIntosh and daughter Heather Jean Cameron Pettipas, brother Donald Cameron and sister Jean Adams, grandchildren James McKay (Erica), and Meghan Pettipas (Ian). Also great granddaughters Kea and Tiegan McKay and many nieces and nephews. Mack attended Cornwall Public and Collegiate Institute. He enlisted with S.D. & G. Hldrs. on its first day of mobilization as drummer in the pipe band, proceeding overseas in July 1941. In January 1944 he was recommended for a commission, and retuned to Brockville ON for the O.C.T. course. After graduation, he married Betty McIntosh on June 10. He was posted to the West Coast and in April 1945 proceeded back overseas. He returned to civil life in November of the same year. In 1947 he purchased a garage and Sunoco service station at Pitt & Fourth Street, Cornwall, and continued to operate it until 1968. In 1960, in partnership with this brother-in-law Stan Fennell, he established the Riverside Launderette chain with stores in Kingston, Morrisburg and Cornwall. The sport of curling interested him, and he was one of the first members of the new club in 1948. He entered the official administration of the sport and served in many capacities. He was past president of the Cornwall Curling Club, life member of Cornwall Sport's Hall of Fame, life member of the Royal Caledonia Curling Club, Emeritus Member of the Governor General's Curling Club, past President of the Ottawa Valley Curling Association, and served as Chairman for the 1984 Uniroyal Junior World Curling Championship. He also served a term as the Director of the Ontario Curling Association. In 1999 he was presented with his 50-year membership in Corinthian Lodge #669 AF & AM. He was a past Master of the Lodge and a charter member. He was also a charter member of the Cornwall Seaway Speakers Club, past Chairman and treasurer of St. John's Presbyterian Church. For many years he was an avid golfer, past member of the Cornwall Club, and the Kiwanis Club of Cornwall. Mack was an Honourary member of the Officers Mess SD&G Hldrs., and the first Battn. Association of the Regiment. 1916-2005. “A mother holds her children’s hands for only a short while but holds their hearts forever.” Our beloved Mom, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2005 with her loving family by her side. At Ottawa, on Friday, October 15, 2004 at age 79 years, after more than a decade’s struggle with cancer, heart and Alzheimer’s problems. Born Victoria, British Columbia on February 8, 1925. Survived by her loving husband, Commodore Ernest Baker, Royal Canadian Navy (Ret’d), daughter Julie Gregg and her husband James, grandsons Rodger and Philip Gregg, all of Halifax, NS and son David Baker and Terry Stanislow of Stewiacke, NS. Daughter of the late Alexander Henderson Ford born in Dunfermiline, Scotland and Bena Ewing (Seon) Ford born in Reading, England. Granddaughter of Captain John Graham Ford of Dunfermiline, Scotland who was in command of the sailing ship DISCOVERY of the Hudson Bay Company from 1906 through 1911. Granddaughter of Dr. Greville Ewing Seon of Hamilton, Bermuda and latterly of Kelowna, BC. She attended St. Margaret’s School and Oak Bay High School, both in Victoria, BC. She is sorely missed by all who knew her and in particular by all those family members to whom she contributed so much in their development and success over the past 55 years, as Wife and Mother. The family extends thanks to the Management and Staff of the Stillwater Creek Retirement Residence for their competent and kindly care during her stay. We also thank the medical and nursing staff on 4th Level at the Queensway Carleton Hospital for their considerate care. It is her desire to have no visitation and no funeral. Cremation will take place with scattering of ashes at a later date. Flowers and donations gratefully declined. Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn’s rain. Captain, Ottawa Fire Department (Retired, 37 years Service) November 24, 1936 – October 14, 2004 It is with great sadness that the family of Ron Poulton, announce that Ron passed away, Thursday, October 14, 2004, with great dignity as a result of complications from surgery. Ron was surrounded with the love of his family until the end. He is survived by his beloved and adored wife, Lorna (Pettes). Dad will always be cherished by his daughters, Brenda (Rob Hamm) and Sandi (Brent Brown). Dad was predeceased by his son Ian. Poppy will be forever loved by his grandchildren, Jarett, Holly, Travis, and Austin Brown and Jake Hamm. Findlay: John “Jack” (of Kinburn, Ontario) It is with sorrow that we announce the passing of Jack at the Arnprior Hospital on Monday September 27 2004. Jack was predeceased by his loving wife Georgina “Jean”. He was a wonderful father to Lynda (Bernie Parent), Keltie (Michael Leclair), Alison (Jeff Bahm) and Laurie (Ted O’Brien). A kind and loving grandfather to Patrick and Matthew Parent and Rebekka, Linden and Mackenzie Bahm. Jack was the eldest brother of Clarence (Elaine), Don (Joan), Gayle Utman, Betty Saunders and Orma (Doug Barclay). Predeceased by his brothers Mac (Joan deceased) and Roy (Jessie). Also predeceased by his brothers-in law Norm Utman, Mac Saunders and Keith and Lyndon MacIntosh. Fondly remembered by Milton MacIntosh (Shirley). Friends may call at the Valley Chapel of Tubman Funeral Homes 115 Rivington Street Carp, on Wednesday September 29, 2004, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service on Thursday at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Woodlawn, at 2 p.m. Interment to follow St. Thomas Anglican Cemetery. Laughlin: Alice (nee Peever) Peacefully at the Arnprior Hospital on Monday September 27, 2004 in her 86th year. Predeceased by her husband Leonard. Loving mother of Anne (Gary Boyce), Brian (Donna), Joyce (Larry Hortick) and Jean Laughlin. Proud grandmother of John, Barbara, Alisa and Leonard. Great grandmother of J.D., Robert, Michael and Gregory. Survived by her sister Marion Wood. Predeceased by brothers Meredith and Ian. At the family’s request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Bethel United Church, Kinburn on Friday October 1, 2004 2004 at 11:00 a.m. For those who wish a donation to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
